Chapter 490: 490- Real Brother
“If you dare utter another word, Angela,” Aniya spat, “I swear I’ll beat you to a pulp. Alex is my real brother, you fu*cker!”
Everyone present in the room was standing still. It seemed like they had somehow forgotten how to breathe, how to speak.
“Wh… what’re you saying?” Ariel stuttered badly.
“Oh, cut the crap!” Angela threw her arms in the air and laughed loudly, “The same bullshit because she resembles Aunt Marissa.”
Rafael and Marissa’s eyes were on Aniya. Marissa leaned into Rafael for support, and he was holding her, praying secretly that his legs wouldn’t give up on him.
“I remember everything…” Aniya sobbed, “My hospital visits… the way you all kept an eye on me so that I wouldn’t run around and fall sick…” She was now facing difficulty in breathing, so she sat down on the carpet and held the corner of the center table.
Angela was now looking at her condition, feeling frustrated, “Listen, Anaya,” This time, her tone had turned soft, “We know you’re sick… but the problem is… everyone knows all these things you’re telling about Abigail Sinclair.”
Aniya raised her tear-streaked face and eyed her parents, who had turned mute, “If that’s the case, then tell me, did you see Abigail’s dead body? Do you want to know who raised me? Valerie? Valerie James and Alaric James are my adoptive parents.”
The name of Valerie made Marissa dangerously pale.
“Mom!” Alex ran to her because he had guessed his father wouldn’t be able to handle his wife. He was too engrossed in Aniya’s explanations.
“Mom. Sit here,” Alex then turned to Ariel, “Ask someone to bring iced water,” Ariel ran to the kitchen to fetch the bottle.
Instead of pouring it into a glass, she brought the bottle and stuck it to Marissa’s lips.
“Here, Mom. Please drink it…” She held her chin gently. Marissa’s eyes stayed on Aniya while taking small sips.
Rafael thought he couldn’t take it anymore and fell back on the couch, “Abi?” he whispered, but no one heard him.
“See!” Angela growled in anger, “What have you done to them? Can you just stop it and leave?”
Aniya shook her head and looked straight into Rafael’s eyes, “I had a tough life in Borington, Daddy,” she said while crying, “Valerie didn’t send me to school… I still remember how you used to bring me out of the room late night and serve ice cream because I couldn’t sleep in my bed …” she trailed off when saw Rafael standing up slowly from the couch.
He turned his head to check on his wife and then took a small step towards her. Tears were cascading down his face and maybe he was having difficulty in walking because everything was almost invisible due to those damn tears.
“I never told you one thing, Daddy. When you used to ask me to finish that glass of milk, I secretly used to throw it in the sink when you weren’t watching because the surgeon…” she hiccuped, “the surgeon wanted me to have a good diet.”
“Mr. Rafael… Rafael Uncle,” Angela felt like Rafael’s movements were a bit mechanical, “Should I call the police?”
Rafael didn’t even look at her and walked past her.
“Yes, please,” Aniya choked on a sob, “Call the police. I want them to take my blood sample and send it for DNA test… I swear,” she looked up at her father, “I swear if I’ll be proved wrong… I’ll… I’ll…” she trailed off because Rafael had reached her and wanted to sit near her. However, when he bent down, he almost let himself fall on the carpet beside her.
His palms were flat against the carpet, and he was watching Aniya’s face closely.
“Remember?” Aniya tried to smile, “Remember how we finished a large Vanilla ice cream tub, and later mom kept asking who ate it?” she then raised her face to look at Alex who was standing near Marissa like a statue, “Mom… mom thought you and Ariel ate it… he…” she laughed through her tears and then her eyes darted to the man who was sitting there looking at her face, “Did you… did you miss me, Daddy?” she asked him brokenly.
“Take me to her…” Marissa tried standing up but her legs wobbled under her. Alex quickly held her and then helped her walk to the spot where Abi and Rafael were sitting.
“Abi?” Marissa asked her, ” Are you really my Abi? Th…then why did they say…” She freed herself from Alex’s arms and dropped down on her knees, “My, Abi?”
Aniya nodded her head, “Yes, Mommy. Your Abi… I’m your Abi…” she said with a shaky grin and then started crying, “I miss you so much… I love y…” Rafael didn’t let her finish and pulled her in an iron grip, crushing her small figure to his chest.
“Abi…” he sobbed, “My Abi… where were you…” his other arm pulled Marissa closer.
They all were crying, rocking each other like babies. Ariel turned to Alex and gave him a teary smile.
His face was stoic as if he was trying his best to endure the pain.
Angela was standing there like a fool. She had planned to expose Anaya Jakes and kick her out of the house.

Even in her wild imagination, she never expected that the events would turn against her like this.
What was going on? Why did they believe her?
Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair were squeezing the little filthy girl into them as if their life depended on it.
This was not the time to create an issue. It might mean being kicked out of the house. She was about to turn away when found Alex and Ariel heading towards the little group, who was busy crying.
They kneeled and held the three people in their arms. Alex leaned his cheek against Aniya’s head while Ariel did the same but to Rafael’s back.
While leaving the room, Angela heard Ariel’s voice, “Our family is complete, Daddy. Abi is back and now we are complete… back to being a happy family.”
