Chapter 496: 496- Vanished
“Mrs. Eileen. Can you please talk to our boss? Tell him I’m really sorry,” Paige muttered to the older lady in her small office.
Mrs. Eileen, who was sitting behind the desk, didn’t change her expression at all.
“You should have been more careful, Paige.”
Paige felt her stomach twisting in nervousness. She leaned forward, desperation evident in her voice, “I know. I know I messed up… but I didn’t mean to… please…” her voice broke as she swallowed hard, “I feel so humiliated here. Everyone is talking about it now. My friends are no longer talking to me.”
Mrs. Eileen sighed and shook her head. Her face was expressionless, as if Paige was talking to someone else.
Paige’s eyes seemed to burn, and she tried to rub this sensation off with her fist, “Please, Mrs. Eileen,” she whispered, “I don’t know what to do. Just say something.”
Mrs. Eileen’s lips were pressed together into a firm line, “There’s nothing I can do, Paige. You did this to yourself.”
Tears started slipping down Paige’s cheeks but the expressions on Mrs. Eileen’s face didn’t soften, “I warned you when you tried to bully that girl, Paige,” Mrs. Eileen pointed out, “that day when you insulted her in the living room, I told you not to repeat it. I got complaints against you before that but never took serious action. But this time,” she chewed her lower lip, “this time you went too far.”
“What am I supposed to do till then?” she wiped her face and sniffled, brushing her nose.
“Patience!” Mrs. Eileen suggested with a small smile, “Once Anaya is found, you will get everything back. Till then, you need to wait. We all need to wait.”
Paige exhaled a long breath and hid her face between her palms, “I don’t know where that bitch is hiding, Mrs. Eileen.”
The hostel in charge got up with a shocked face, “Taking your mental condition into account, this time I’ll ignore the cuss word, Ms. Paige Fletcher. Next time, you say it and your remaining half salary will also be deducted, leaving nothing in your hands.”
Paige closed her eyes, and her shoulders slumped in defeat, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to…” her voice trailed off.
Mrs. Eileen had taken back her seat, but Paige was still standing there wishing death on herself.

Abigail stepped into the kitchen, reaching for the glass on the counter when suddenly she heard voices coming from the dining area.
Sounds like a guest is there. I hope it’s not Angela.
Thankfully, the bratty girl didn’t turn up after that incident. However, the credit should go to her for tempting Abi into admitting that she was Abigail Sinclair.
The voice from the dining room was clearer now, and it made her freeze. It was familiar… too familiar.
George? What is he doing here? Why is he here?
Her fingers clenched around the plate as her breath caught in her throat.
Before she could react, Ariel waltzed in. Her eyes were bright with excitement, “Abi! Guess what?” She didn’t wait for a response, “It’s George! Remember? Your childhood friend? Georgie?”
Abi felt like someone had yanked the ground from under her feet. Her hands went numb, and the glass in her grip slipped.
A sharp crash echoed as it shattered on the tiled floor.
Ariel barely flinched, too excited to even notice her sister’s face. Instead, she rolled her eyes and flicked a hand towards the mess, “Seriously? Now step back and let the house help take care of it,” she tugged at her sleeve, “Come out already…”
Abi’s heart was thudding in her chest. Her legs felt rooted to the spot, and her throat went dry.
“G…Georgie?” The name barely made it past her lips.
Ariel sighed, grabbing her wrist and tugging her forward, “Yes. He’s here. Now stop looking like I told you about a ghost and move your ass.”
Abigail’s stomach twisted at the thought of stepping out and facing him.

George shook Rafael’s and Marissa’s hands. Marissa watched him closely. The lad seemed distant. He had never been like this before—always easygoing, always teasing her about taking over MSin.
Now, he was quiet and reserved.
She didn’t say anything about it and gestured towards the dining table, “Take a seat, George. Dinner will be served soon.”
But George didn’t move. Instead, he turned to Rafael, trying to act casual, “Umm. Y-you brought a girl from the hotel, Rafael? Can I ask you where she is?”
Rafael and Marissa exchanged a look before a smile graced their lips. Rafael opened his mouth to say something when Ariel came bursting into the room.
“George!” she raced to him, throwing her arms around him in a tight hug, “Thank God, you’re here.”
George hugged her back, but before he could say anything, Ariel pulled away grinning, “Won’t you meet Abi?”
And then there was a small voice that came from some distance, “Hello.”
George looked up and his whole body went rigid. For a second, he thought he was seeing a ghost. The face and eyes that kept haunting him at nights, were there.
“Anaya?” he whispered.
There she was, standing in the center of the room, fidgeting her fingers.
Without thinking, George started walking towards her, taking slow steps. A horrified look crossed Abigail’s face, and she shook her head with wide eyes, sending a silent message to George not to do what he intended to do.
But George?
He had turned blind. The only person he could see in that room was Anaya Jakes. The girl he had been looking for, like a madman, for the past few days.
“Where were you, little dove?” he asked her in a low whisper, and Abigail could feel wetness in his voice. Without waiting for a second, he suddenly closed the distance between them and crushed her into his arms, taking her by surprise.
For him, everyone vanished in the background except her. Nobody mattered at that moment except her.
