Chapter 500: 500- Liar
George was visiting Sinclair House daily, and Abigail was trying to avoid him. Either she kept herself busy in her room or went out with Alex along with his friends.
“This evening, George took me for ice cream,” Ariel told her while applying hand cream on her palm, “I missed you.”
Abigail gave her a tight-lipped smile and nodded.
She wanted to give them privacy and, in all honesty, she had started enjoying Alex’s friends’ company more.
She raised her face and found Ariel looking at her face carefully, “What…” Abi asked her in confusion, thinking there was something wrong with her face.
“You should visit a salon, darling. Your facial skin is getting rough,” Abigail nodded, willing to learn more from her sister.
In the past few days, she had realized that Ariel was nothing like Valerie. Only their faces resembled each other, but they were entirely different.
Still, she couldn’t trust her. Valerie also showed her good side and made her a fool. She didn’t want to repeat the same mistake.
“George was asking about you. Can you accompany us tomorrow? We three can have dinner at some nice restaurant.”
Abigail didn’t want to meet George at all. But it was inevitable if he was going to be her brother-in-law.
She couldn’t avoid him forever.
She looked up and found Arial already watching her, waiting for an answer, “Sure. I’ll try my best if I’m not busy.”
“Busy?” she made a pout, “Doing exactly what?”
Abigail couldn’t answer. However, the next morning, Rafael asked her during breakfast to come to his study after dinner, “The lawyers will be here to get some documents signed,” he informed Abigail.
She took a sigh of relief.
But for how long are you planning to run away? She asked herself.

“You three were planning to go for dinner? I didn’t know that,” Rafael frowned while shaking George’s hand. He turned to Abigail, who was sitting at some distance, apparently too busy watching TV, “Abi. I can ask my lawyers to come some other day.”
Abigail was trying to watch the stock market news with extreme interest. She was also cursing Ariel who switched on this channel and walked away to get a drink for George.
She kept her eyes glued to the screen, pretending not to notice George’s eyes on her. Nah. She wasn’t about to turn and face him.
“No need, Daddy,” she replied with an over-bright smile, “George and Ariel can enjoy dinner together. I can stay back for the documentation.”
Her father gave her a long, unreadable stare. Abigail’s fingers curled around the armrest, her forced smile started faltering under his gaze.
Then suddenly George’s deep voice reached her ears, “It’s okay, Rafael. We can go for dinner some other time.”
Abigail’s head snapped towards him, and her pulse stuttered.
She couldn’t believe it. He was canceling the dinner… because of her?
Ariel, who was returning with a drink in her hand, froze mid-step, “Wait, wait, wait. What…” she looked between George and Abigail, her brows drawing together, “You’re canceling it?”
George didn’t respond to her right away. His eyes remained on Abigail, who was shifting uncomfortably in her seat, “Y-you don’t have to do that…” she muttered.
George, who could read her face easily, his lips twitched slightly, almost amused, “I already did.”
Ariel scoffed and set the glass down with more force than necessary, “Seriously? What is even happening here?”
Abigail turned to her with the same innocent look, “Daddy asked the lawyers to be here for documentation. I think that you two should go ahead. I’m sorry,” She felt guilty because she was aware that Ariel was looking forward to it.

George kept looking at the girl who was watching intently about the stocks like a pro. He crossed his arms and asked Abigail in a serious tone, “So, Abigail… what do you say after watching this program? Should I sell my shares to Adiana Enterprises before the market crashes?”
Abigail gritted her teeth. Everyone in the room knew that she knew nothing about this. She wasn’t even watching the program because she was too conscious of his gaze on her.
Even Rafael and Ariel were looking at her, maybe expecting a smart-ass response.
Urgh. Who asked you to watch this program, bitch?
Her throat went dry when she opened her mouth, “Uh… well… that depends… on the … umm… quarterly projections?” she smiled weakly, hoping that her words sounded convincing.
George nodded and let out a slow hum with a somber expression on his face. Yet she was the only one who could see the mischief dancing in his eyes, “That’s fascinating. What about this recent interest hike?”
Abi’s face burned. The fu*cker was enjoying it. If they were still the old carefree couple, she would have run behind him until landing enough punches on his hard chest.
She shot him a secret warning glare that only he could understand. He smirked and kept his expression otherwise serious.
Before he could open his mouth to shoot another question at her, she was on her feet in a blink of an eye, “Excuse me. I think my phone is ringing. I need to take that.”
George tried to control his laughter when Ariel scrunched her nose and plopped down on the sofa, “Her phone? I can’t even hear any ringing.”

When Abigail was sure he had left, she came out of her room like a thief.
Damn you, George Donovan.
“Coffee at this hour?” Marissa asked her when she saw her entering the kitchen and going straight towards the coffee machine
“Sometimes, when I don’t feel like sleeping, I like drinking coffee while watching a good movie,” Marissa smiled at her explanations and kissed her forehead.
“Call the night butler if you need anything. Even our bedroom door is open for you.”
The offer warmed her heart.
She brought her coffee cup outside and started strolling in the garden. The lights in this area were kept dim to keep the moths away.
She got down on a bench and took a deep breath when the familiar deep voice spoke behind her, “You’re a liar. There is no boy in your life, Abigail Sinclair. Am I right?”
