Chapter 504: 504- Fool
As they drove back, Abigail kept stealing glances at her sister who was unusually quiet. She wasn’t telling Abi about her friends, nor she was asking for Abigail’s favorite music. Instead, she was staring ahead, lost in her thoughts.
Abigail cleared her throat, “Umm. Ariel… should I bake you a cake after reaching home?” she badly wanted Ariel to not hate her.
She couldn’t afford to lose her siblings’ friendship.
What if Ariel was thinking that her long-lost sister was nothing but a scheming bitch.
“Hmm?” Ariel blinked as if she was deep in thinking, “Yeah. Sure. But what about Dad’s lawyers who are coming today to meet you?”
“Ah… yes… after they leave then I can … after that…” she didn’t have enough courage to tell her that no lawyer was visiting her.
She lied.
“Ariel. Are you mad at me?” she couldn’t hide the fear in her voice but wasn’t aware if Ariel felt it too.
“Mad at you? No! Relax!” Ariel reached over to squeeze her hand but the heavy silence in the car said otherwise.
Abigail hoped that she didn’t mess up her relationship with her sister.

When Alex strode into the study, he was expecting his dad, buried in his paperwork. Instead, he found Abigail sitting comfortably on the leather couch, watching a movie on the projector.
“No shit!” his brows furrowed, “Why are you watching it here? You could’ve used the home theatre setup.”
Abi took a sip from her Coke can without looking away from the screen, “There was some technical issue, so Dad told me to watch it here.”
Alex was stunned for a minute, “Dad said that? You mean our dad said that?” he asked her after taking another leather couch.
A flicker of amusement crossed her face, but her eyes stayed focused on the movie.
Alex curved down his lips, running a hand through his hair. He was unable to hide his disbelief, “He never let anyone use his study for watching movies. Do you have a magic wand or something, Abigail Sinclair?”
Abi finally turned to him, raising a brow, “Well, he did this time. For me!” she squeezed her eyes and took another sip from her can.
Alex looked around, “Where is he, anyway?”
“He was here just a few minutes ago,” she told him casually, “reading a book.”
She picked up a large pack of crisps and opened it with a loud rustle.
Her statement stopped Alex cold, “Reading? Here? When you were watching a movie? I must talk to Mom about it. I think our dad needs a doctor,” he muttered the last part to himself.
Abigail didn’t know what he was talking about, she was nodding at him without thinking. Her lips spread into an innocent smile when the male lead of the movie kissed the female protagonist.
Alex observed her face for a minute and then leaned forward to kiss her head. He was pleased that his parents were happy.
After Abigail’s return, they were staying home more. As if they wanted to celebrate each day with her.
The guilt that had become part of Marissa Sinclair’s eyes was no longer there.
Alex watched her face who was again busy watching that romantic shit being played on the projector, “You have changed everything,” he murmured.
“What?” Abi glanced at him, confused.
He smiled, ruffling her hair, “Nothing,” he got up from the couch and turned to leave the room, “Enjoy your movie, Abi.”

Abi opened the box of tarts that Rafael especially brought from Delizia’s and reached out for the strawberry tart without thinking.
Just as she was about to take a bite, Caleb’s voice rang behind her, “Dad said you loved Vanilla flavor. Strawberry is for Ariel.”
She stiffened, her hand hovering over the tart. The room was suddenly quiet as she hesitated. She might have liked Vanilla as a child but lately, she had grown a passion for strawberry-flavored bakery treats.
She started to return the tart to the box when Ariel’s voice cut in smoothly.
“It’s fine, Abi. You can have it,” Ariel said with a smile, “I can take the Vanilla one today.”
There was no hesitation on Ariel’s face.

With a small smile, Ariel was observing Abigail’s embarrassed smile. She cursed Caleb under her breath who could never grow up, no matter how much she lectured him about basic etiquette.
Somehow, she had guessed that most of Abigail’s preferences had changed, and they couldn’t expect her to stick to them.
For her sister, Ariel could eat Vanilla tart so that she wouldn’t feel bad. But then Abigail decided to look over her shoulder with a sweet smile and shook her head, “I’m such a dork, Ariel. How can I forget I’m allergic to strawberries…” With that she placed back the tart and picked up the Vanilla one,” she then picked up the box and brought it to Ariel.
“Here. Have it.”
Ariel felt uneasy. Why was Abigail doing that?
For her sister, it wasn’t okay to have something that didn’t belong to her.
A familiar voice rang in her head, “Ever since Abigail got to know that you two are already in a relationship, she stepped back.”
Ariel gulped hard when the same voice told her, “Since you are her sister whom she found after so many years, she doesn’t want to destroy her relationship with you.”
Holding the strawberry tart in her hand, she looked ahead where Abigail was pushing the Vanilla tart into her mouth and Caleb was making fun of her.
Abigail couldn’t even laugh due to her full mouth.
“Are you going on a date with someone special?” she had asked George, and he told her yes, “I am.”
Ariel thought hard and then the face of a girl glimpsed behind her closed eyelids, standing near the reception of George’s apartment buildings.
The way George left his apartment when he was informed on the intercom that someone was there to meet him.
He had left abruptly and returned with that bronze warrior in his hand.
That girl was Abigail. Ariel realized.
Abigail was still laughing and smudging some tart filling on Caleb’s nose tip. Ariel closed her eyes and shook her head with a smile.
Abigail Sinclair. You’re a fool.
“Abi!” her voice echoed in the living room. Abigail’s eyes snapped in her direction, “Please come to my room for a while. I think we need to talk.”
