Chapter 505: 505- Respect
The instant Abigail set foot in Ariel’s room; nervousness enveloped her body like a heavy cloud. Why did she call her here?
Damn you, George. I told you to be careful.
Sue couldn’t even imagine hurting her sister. She was raised by Valerie, but she wanted to prove to them that she wasn’t like her.
Ariel spun around and found her standing there near the door. Her lips curved into a friendly smile, “Oh, wow. You’re here. Sit down,” she motioned towards a chair and sat on the edge of her bed.
Abigail took the seat and kept her eyes down, staring at the floor.
“Abigail,” Ariel caught the uncertainty in her actions, “Are you … I mean do you want to tell me anything? Something I should know about?”
Abi attempted to smile and shook her head wildly, “I know why you are asking this, Ariel. I swear, I don’t know what got into him. He was acting so weirdly. I know, Ariel. I’ll talk to him and ask him not to do that again…” she trailed off, not knowing what else to say to convince her sister.
“Not to do what?” Ariel tried to bite back her smile. Her sister was indeed innocent.
“He… he was … umm… he was too close to me in his office… and I apologize for his indecency, but Ariel I swear…” she was again ready to give a long-ass speech about George and his closeness.
Ariel closed her eyes and resisted the urge to shake he head.
“Abigail…” she tried to cut her speech, but her sister didn’t hear.
Abigail Sinclair continued to speak, “I asked him not to order coffee but still, he did because you like it. Ariel let me tell you, I don’t like coffee that much. Not until it’s reasonably sweet.”
“Abigail…” Ariel called her name softly and when this time her sister didn’t hear, then Ariel raised her voice a little bit, “Abigail!” still no response, “ABIGAIL! STOP AND LISTEN!”
After that, there was stunned silence in the room, “Tell me, Abi. You like George?”
“Hmm?” Abi blinked, “What?”
“I asked you a simple question, Abi. Do you like George?”
Abi’s lips parted, but no words came out. She blinked again, looking at Ariel as if the question had caught her completely off guard.
“I … what?” she stammered.
Ariel didn’t break eye contact and repeated her question, “Do you like him?” this time her tone was softer.
Abigail fidgeted her fingers suddenly feeling trapped, “I… I don’t know what you mean,” she muttered, glancing away.
Ariel sighed, leaning forward slightly, “Abi, I’m not here to interrogate you like an investigator. I just need to understand what’s going on, honey,” she hesitated a bit before adding, “You are acting like you don’t want anything to do with him but for him, it’s opposite when he is around you. And now, the way you’re reacting__”
“I don’t,” Abigail cut in quickly shaking her head, “I mean… I don’t think about him that way.”
Ariel studied her closely, with her narrowed eyes, “Are you sure?”
Abigail swallowed and tried to smile. She placed her hand on her chest giving the impression to Ariel, unintentionally that she was trying to control her hammering heart.
Great! My sister is the worst liar I have ever seen.
“Yes. I’m sure,” Abigail insisted, “Don’t let his actions fool you, Ariel. You know better than me, he does things his way. But one thing is permanent,” Abigail managed a wide grin on her face that didn’t reach her eyes, “His care for you.”
“His what?” Ariel thought Abi had gone nuts.
“Yes. He cares for you. The way his eyes lit up,” she then got to her feet, “I need to go out and talk to Daddy. He said I need to meet these lawyers…” She straightened her skirt and walked out of the room.
Ariel exhaled a long breath and fell back on her bed, “She is… stupid. Instead of her, I think I should approach George and let him know that he fell for a foolish girl.”

“Honey,” Marissa held Abigail’s hand, “You need an authentic ID card now. Apply it online and do remember that you’re not eighteen but nineteen.”
For fear of being caught, Valerie had conveniently changed her date of birth and year of birth.
“Sure, mommy. I’ll do it,” she lay on the couch and placed her head on Marissa’s lap. Something she could never do with Valerie.
“Mommy!” she called with her eyes closed when she felt her mom’s hand running through her hair.
“Yes, honeypot,” Marissa bent forward to kiss her head.
“Will I ever be able to have a career?” She couldn’t hide the disappointment in her voice
Marissa’s hand stilled for a brief moment before she resumed stroking Abigail’s hair, “Of course, you will,” she said gently.
“But I don’t have any degrees,” she opened her eyes to look up at her mother, “I never went to school. What can I even do?”
Marissa smiled, brushing a strand of hair from Abigail’s forehead, “Degrees help, but they don’t define you, silly. Look at me. I couldn’t get into an MBA program, but that didn’t stop me. I worked hard and now I’m running multiple restaurants while being the CEO of MSin.”
Abigail hesitated, “Y-you d-didn’t get admission?”
Marissa chuckled, “Yes. I was pregnant with you and your siblings. You don’t need a degree to be successful, sweetheart. You need passion, dedication, and the courage to take the first step.”
“So, you think being a food blogger will do? Will people respect me?”
“People will respect you when you respect yourself. I learned it from your father, Abi. If you love food and want to choose this field, then go for it.”
Marissa kissed her forehead again, “We all will be right here, helping you figure out what you want to do.”
A soft smile tugged at Abi’s lips, but it was short-lived until the Butler informed Marissa that Angela was outside, requesting to meet Abigail.
