Chapter 507: 507- Vulnerable Side Of George Donovan
Poor Abigail didn’t know what had gotten into Ariel. Tonight was nothing special, still, she arranged the dinner on the lawn with all those fairy lights and stunning decorations.
Not only that but she also invited George without informing anyone. Nobody seemed to mind it except Abi because he was already part of the Sinclair family.
The servers placed the roasted lamb in the center of the table while salads and rice were arranged around it.
“Today I asked our chef to cook authentic Kabuli pulao. George had it when he went to Afghanistan a long time back,” Ariel was telling this to Angela who was popping raisins into her mouth.
Abigail looked down at her maroon-colored prairie dress that now looked plain and dull. Ariel looked beautiful in a white dress and was shining while whispering something in George’s ear.
He threw back his head and laughed hard. He even held Ariel by her waist and then whispered back, his mouth close to her face.
Abigail wished she could erase them both from existence. How could they laugh together and enjoy themselves when she was a mess here?
The good thing was, she was not the only one uncomfortable with it.
Alex sitting beside her, cleared his throat loudly, “Uh. Can we eat or are we supposed to watch this…whatever this is…” he muttered, stabbing his fork into his salad with a slight grimace.
Rafael who had just taken his seat, exchanged a confused glance with Marissa, “Is there something we’re missing?” He asked, looking between Ariel and George.
When Ariel didn’t give them any response and kept smiling to herself, Marissa furrowed her brows, still holding the serving spoon, “Ariel, sweetheart. When did George become your dinner date?”
Ariel reached for her glass of wine with a graceful tilt of her head, “George and I have always been close. Strange that none of you noticed it,” she said with a shrug, “Haven’t we, George?”
George draped his arm casually over the back of Ariel’s chair and gave her a nod with a smirk, “Yeah. Very close,” he leaned into her and kissed her cheek.
Abigail heard Alex groaning. Her grip on her napkin tightened as she tried to focus on her food.
Just a day before yesterday George was telling her how he felt about her. And now he was pretending like he didn’t even know her.
She picked up the dish of Kabuli pulao and offered it to Ariel, “Here, have some. You said you wanted to try it when we__”
Ariel glanced away before Abigail could finish, focusing on George instead, “So, tell me. Should I ask my chef to cook Persian food next time?”
George hummed, not even looking at Abi, “How about I taste something else? Ha-ha…” He chuckled and Ariel laughed along.
Abigail’s ears turned red on this double-meaning conversation. The image of his head between her legs flashed in her mind.
Was he doing the same to her sister? How disgusting!
No, she was not the only one who was confused about it.
Marissa’s fork was paused halfway to her mouth, and now Rafael was watching them, looking even more puzzled.
He had a fair share of fun in his young days but watching his daughter doing the same was something entirely different and … unsettling.
Alex leaned closer to Abi, whispering under his breath, “Okay. This is officially the most cringe thing I’ve ever seen and heard.”
Abigail clenched her jaw but didn’t utter a word.
Meanwhile, Ariel let out another soft laugh as George tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. They weren’t even realizing that the rest of them had stopped eating.
Only Marissa was observing George’s face with suspicion.
“Ariel,” she cleared her throat because she didn’t want to sound like a conservative parent, “Ariel… Are you two—”
“Mom!” Ariel protested, “Don’t overthink it,” she cut in smoothly, “It’s just a dinner.”
Alex made a face and offered Abigail the salad tray, “Yeah. Just a dinner,” he rolled his eyes.

Abigail barely touched her food. She felt like puking but didn’t want to give the impression that she was jealous of them.
She got still for a minute.
Was she jealous? But why?
Didn’t she want them to be together?
She coughed lightly before dragging back her chair, “I… I think… I should go…”
“Hey!” Alex called out to her, “Where are you going? You haven’t even finished your plate.”
Marissa and Rafael were on high alert.
“Princess. You haven’t eaten your dinner,” Rafael picked up his phone from the table, “Should I order a cheeseburger for you?”
“No… I don’t feel hungry, Daddy,” she tried to smile and turned quickly to hide her misty eyes but then she stopped short when George called her name.
“Abigail! Do Rafael and Marissa know about your boyfriend?”
Abigail thought she heard him wrong. Her fingers curled into fists before she spun around to face him.
Silly her. She didn’t notice the challenge in his eyes.
“What did you say?” she seethed in anger. How dare he!
This was supposed to be private.
“You have a boyfriend?” Angela asked her with a shocked face.
“Why? Can’t I have a boyfriend?” she asked the bitch through clenched teeth, “Stay out of my personal life.”
“Princess! Relax!” Rafael was by her side in the blink of an eye, “Why are you crying?”
Abigail frowned and rubbed her palm against her cheeks. They were wet.
She was horrified by those unexpected tears. Damn!” she muttered under her breath when George also got up and strode towards her.
Looking as handsome as ever in that snug t-shirt and denim trousers.
However, the playfulness had vanished from his face, replaced by genuine concern.
“Abigail. Sweetheart! You’re crying, God!” he reached out to wipe her face, but she slapped his hand, “Don’t touch me!” she snapped, “Go back to her and eat!”
Rafael Sinclair was looking at her as if his daughter had turned into an alien.
“What’s the issue here, sweetheart?” he asked her worriedly.
She wanted to tell her father that she just needed space when George answered him on her behalf, “Maybe she is scared if you will accept that guy or not,” he then turned to her, “Your father is a very straightforward man. He wouldn’t mind it if you invited that guy here. Don’t worry. He’s not …”
Everybody present there was shocked when the sound of a slap echoed in the air.
Everyone got quiet.
Abigail was panting by now and George was standing there unfazed, not bothering to touch his cheek where she had just slapped.
“Sh-shut up!” she muttered, “Just shut up and get… lost…” her hand went to her chest.
“Abi! Oh God. That was a mistake. I’m sorry!” Ariel came running to her.
Abi was about to fall, and Rafael reached out to catch her, but George got to her first.
“Anaya… Abigail… love…”
Half-conscious, Abigail clutched his t-shirt in her fist, “George… you… you should stay away…from me…”
“No!” several tears ran down George’s face, “I can’t… I can’t stay away, Abigail. I can’t. I just tried but I can’t.”
He was now crouched on the grass with her head on his lap.
Rafael and Marissa were looking at them in shock and confusion. George’s face was somewhat telling them what the actual matter might be.
Rafael had never seen such pain on George’s face. This was the same hurt and longing that he saw on his own face when Marissa Sinclair went missing along with his children.
Were George and Abigail –
He shook his head and turned to look at Marissa.
Strange! There was a smile playing on her lips.
Abi tried to look at George, “Y… you… you should stay with Ariel. She is a very good girl!”
“Yeah. I’m a very good girl,” Ariel also sank down beside George, “But George isn’t interested in a good girl, you fool. He only wants you. This was such a bad idea, Abi. I’m so sorry, sweetheart.”
Abigail’s panting had gotten under control. Her head was resting against George’s chest, and he was slowly rubbing his thumb on her cheek while looking into her eyes.
“I can’t stay with anyone else, Abi. It’s you who my heart desires,” he leaned forward and kissed her lips softly.
At some distance, Alex groaned in annoyance, “George. Are you two-timing my sisters?”
Abigail tried to speak in George’s defense, but he made her quiet, “Shh. Don’t speak, love,” he whispered, “Don’t say anything.”
He again kissed her head.
“I love you, Abi,” there was pleading in his voice, “Please accept my love. Accept me. I promise I’ll make you happy…”
His head shot up, and his gaze settled on Rafael, “I love your daughter. And I promise to make her happy. Please allow me to take care of her. Let me court her…”
Rafael exhaled sharply, rubbing a hand over his face.
This was unexpected.
His daughter was almost unconscious just moments ago and was now cradled in the arms of a man, who looked as if he just bared his soul for the world to see.
He had never witnessed this vulnerable side of George Donovan.
