Chapter 128: Apex-Ranked Battle
Apex-Ranked Battle
Seeing the extremely familiar monster, Christopher couldn’t help but be stunned for a moment.
He was interested in a lot of forms of media in his past life as well as various franchises and their lore. And the m*nsterverse was one of them. One of his favorites, in fact.
So it was difficult not to recognize a creature as iconic as Shimo.
Granted, this wasn’t the same monster, but it just looked the same and had the same attributes, but it was still different from what was portrayed in the media he was used to.
For one, it was much stronger.
The beast let out a devastating roar that stirred the elements and caused terribly cold winds to move around with wild abandon.
Christopher, who was at the center of this, narrowed his eyes and rid his mind of useless thoughts. Similar or not, this creature was still an enemy.
VWOOM VWOOM VWOOM…
A rhythmic pulsing sound echoed throughout the area, and the spikes on the creature’s back started to light up one by one.
‘A breath attack right off the bat is diabolical.’ Christopher teleported just as the thing, he decided to call it a Drake, fired a beam of condensed frost at him.
Incredibly, the beam was so cold that the very space started to freeze over and fracture.
Christopher reappeared a moment later but wasn’t able to form a thought before he had to teleport again, as the Drake had continued to unleash its attack, seemingly able to track his teleports and change its trajectory to hit where he was meant to come out of.
This put Christopher in a bit of a precarious situation as appearing would leave him susceptible to taking damage, and he was already certain that the natural barrier that formed around his body as a result of transcending wouldn’t be enough to protect him from a direct hit from the beam.
‘That’s a little annoying.’ He sighed inwardly and then decided to retaliate.
‘Let’s try this.’ Christopher focused his attention on the beam that hadn’t stopped trying to pin him down and sent his will forward.
He recalled that the system told him that his ability allowed him to shape the “how” and “why” of things within the framework of reality to an extent. And that all beings that had achieved Apex were in some way tied to the framework of existence which augmented their power.
It was clear that this Drake was tied to the concept of ice. Its presence alone wasn’t just freezing the things around it, but it was actively changing the nature of reality around itself to be cold and frigid.
As such, simply being there made it a dreadful foe.
That said, Christopher wasn’t inclined to care that much.
‘Let’s start off small.’ With that, he reappeared and sent his will forward.
‘That beam isn’t there anymore.’ It wasn’t a request or anything of similar nature. It was a firm belief that the beam the Drake released wasn’t there anymore.
And it came to pass, as an instant later, the beam completely vanished, the icy energy that had been freezing everything in the vicinity disappearing along with it.
Christopher felt a small drain as he did that, but it was inconsequential, and it was replenished a moment later due to his Dimension.
‘Interesting.’ Christopher hummed and looked at the Drake that was staring at him coldly. However, there was a hint of caution in its gaze.
Which was understandable, considering that one of its most powerful abilities had been rendered useless.
Granted, it hadn’t unleashed a full-powered breath attack, the same way Christopher hadn’t tried to will the entire thing out of existence. Both of them were testing the waters to see how they should proceed for the remainder of the fight, but Christopher had already established his dominance.
A low rumble left the throat of the Drake as it eyed the small human that proved to be far more dangerous than it had thought.
The human let off no Aura, so it was difficult to gauge its power. But it was at the Apex rank at least simply for the fact that it had noticed it staying underground despite it suppressing its Aura.
Then there was the fact that its attack, which was filled with conceptual ice, was nullified with what seemed like ease. Then again, it hadn’t been going all out, but this human definitely wasn’t either. So they didn’t know the full extents of each other’s abilities.

That said, the Drake was very wary of the sword the human held, unlike the human who didn’t release the smallest bit of Aura, the Aura the sword gave off was both powerful and very dangerous, and just staring at it made the Drake’s existence feel threatened.
Existence erasure.
This human was a dangerous foe, and retreating would be wise. But the Drake hadn’t gotten to where it was by running from every fight that had proven itself to be tough. Otherwise, it was better off just finding some corner to sleep.
That, and it doubted the human would let it leave if it wanted to. It was harder to catch a foe that was fully committed to running than to fight them, but it was similarly difficult to escape a foe that was fully committed to chasing you down.
As such, the Drake made a decision. The floor beneath it cracked, and with speed that did not match its titanic size at all, it shot into the air towards Christopher like a bullet.
Christopher smiled behind his mask and brandishing Scarlet before swinging it to meet the massive claws of the Drake, which were coated in a thick, oppressive frost that threatened to freeze the world.
The two clashed, and a cataclysmic explosion erupted with them as the center, the ice for thousands of miles shattering under the Kinetic energy they released.
Shockingly, despite being about the size of an ant compared to the Drake, Christopher was very easily matching the creature in strength as they pushed against one another.
The Drake growled, and the air around Christopher froze before erupting into countless ice shards that threatened to rip him apart. But Scarlet blurred, and all the Shards were sliced through and reduced to ice dust that vanished immediately after.
Then Christopher flashed backward as the tail of the Drake moved and tried to swipe him to the side.
Christopher brandished Scarlet, and pure Annihilation energy blazed across the surface of the blade, which he raised over his head and slashed down with terrific force.
The Drake made no attempt to block and immediately dodged the attack that traveled down and sliced through the thick ice floor like it was butter.
‘So Scarlet at this stage can cut through concepts, huh? Well, he could do that previously, but that required a lot more effort.’ Christopher noted as he eyed the Drake that growled.
Then, he noticed that the sky was growing dark and the temperature started to drop even lower than it currently was, which sounded impossible considering that it was already utterly freezing, but it was happening.
At the same time, Christopher felt a strange, bone-chilling cold bite into him and try to freeze him from the inside out, which was very uncomfortable.
So he believed the cold wasn’t there anymore. And it wasn’t..
He then looked up and saw what caused the sky to darken. It wasn’t clouds, but a moon-sized glacier that was currently falling on his head.
And from below, ice lances the size of buildings fired at him like artillery shells, and the Drake was preparing an especially devastating breath attack.
‘No more playing around, eh?’ Christopher grinned under his mask.
He didn’t bother nullifying the attacks as that would just kill the fun. Instead, he decided to use another one of Scarlet’s abilities.
‘Absolute Ruin.’ He gave the mental command, and a flash of red erupted from Scarlet and shone on the surrounding area with incredible speed.
Wherever this light passed, everything was reduced to nothing. It didn’t discriminate as the massive glacier, ice attacks, and even the space around began to get annihilated.
The Drake had to clamp its mouth shut and retreat quickly to avoid being caught by the red light. And even then, it still sustained some damage as some of its scales looked like they had been shaved off, causing blood to spill.
Christopher grinned and addressed the thing directly.
“Why are you running? Something wrong?” He taunted, and the Drake glared at him but made no move to attack and stared at him intently.
‘Ah, I guess I showed off too much.’ Christopher sighed. This fight had barely gone anywhere. In fact, they hadn’t even had up to 15 exchanges, but the Drake was already like this.
But to be fair, the stronger one became, the more likely they were to tell when something was extremely dangerous to them. Christopher had experienced something similar when he had fought the Void’s avatar.
‘Still, that’s a bit disappointing, but it can’t be helped.’ He sighed.
‘Let’s end this then.’
