Chapter 184: Chiara’s Epiphany
Chiara’s Epiphany
“…” Gaz felt a chill run down his spine. This dragon knew who he was just by observing him. But how? As far as he was concerned, they hadn’t made contact with anyone from the Genesis Corps, so how could they know of his identity?
His mind immediately went to them spying on his clan via fate, but that was impossible since fate wasn’t in any state to be used at the moment.
…
Right?
“So did you come here to spy? Or maybe assassinate? Or even take one of us hostage?” Chiara sounded much too excited as she listed these points. Most people would be enraged or irritated, but she seemed genuinely excited by the prospect.
“I’ve been here for so long without any proper action, so someone coming to cause trouble is a welcome distraction.” Her words made Gaz shudder. She… welcomed trouble?
‘What sort of maniacs did I get involved with?’ Gaz couldn’t help but start regretting following Vazar’s order. Then again, he would have never expected to be caught so easily.
As someone who was at the Apex rank and focused on stealth, it should have been difficult to pick up on his presence even among people at the same rank, yet Chiara noticed him the instant he entered her sensory range. But that wasn’t all.
‘How did she subdue me so easily? She’s simply at the god rank, but I couldn’t react to her speed, and she completely overpowered me and sealed my power.’ He gritted his teeth and tried to move his Mana but to no avail.
Another property of the Void-Forged Mana the members of the Primordial Expanse possessed is that it was extremely difficult to resist using ordinary Mana of Void energy. So purging it from your body was extremely difficult.
If Chiara had been using her own energy reserves, then Maybe Gaz would have been able to overpower the Void-Forged Mana with sheer quantity. But with the Primordial Expanse as her energy source, Gaz had no hope of overpowering her when it came to energy.
Then there was her physical body. Again, transcending made one become a higher lifeform, meaning that every aspect of their existence should have reached a higher stage, their physical bodies included. Yet Gaz was completely outclassed as he couldn’t even move a finger while he was trapped under her body.
Unbeknownst to Gaz, Chiara possessed a Totality Physique which, while not as good as Christopher’s Duality Nexus Physique, still surpassed most physiques that were tied to existence. Add that to the natural advantage being a dragon brought her, and Chiara’s physical strength was simply something else.
“Hm. I should probably question you, but that’s boring.” She sighed and Gaz felt a spark of hope. If she chose to question him, he’d have longer to live, and he could quickly come up with a way to escape. He had no illusions of fighting her with his strength sealed like this, so the more time he had, the higher his chances.
“Oh right, if I kill you I can just give your body to Thanatos, he can extract whatever information you have that way.” Her words immediately doused him in a bucket of cold water.
‘What…?’ His eyes widened and Chiara continued to speak.
“Yeah, that works. Then again, killing you like this isn’t interesting either. I’d much prefer you were able to fight back. It would be too boring otherwise.” As she said this, she slowly rose and Gaz took in a breath, Chiara had been laying on him and was pressing down on his lungs. Granted, he didn’t need oxygen as he could substitute it with Mana, and even then he could go for a long time without anything in his lungs. But having your lungs practically be crushed for that long was certainly uncomfortable, and the only natural reaction was to breathe.
She stepped back as Gaz slowly regained his bearing and stared at her, his eyes filled with fear and rage.
Chiara smiled and removed his restrictions, allowing his strength to come back.
This situation seemed odd as Chiara seemed to be the voice of reason between her and Umbra. So seeing her act like an excited child who had just found a new toy was a bit contradictory.
However, she was also smart, when she had been observing Gaz, she wasn’t just looking at him, she was using the magic she’d put in his body to stop him from moving to observe his internal structure.
Why would she need to do that?
Well, Umbra said something a while ago that caught her attention. Basically, he said that he had an easier time attacking beings from the inside because most living beings had nothing to illuminate their insides, allowing him to take control of the darkness within them and wreak havoc.
This was easier said than done though, as directly attacking someone’s insides was a monumental task. The reason was that magic required Mana to work, and if one wanted to attack someone from the inside, they would need to inject their Mana into that person. But that wasn’t viable since most of the time, you are fighting someone that can also use Mana. So if you inject your Mana into their body, or try to anyway, the Mana in their body would simply reject or resist it.
This was why people who could use water couldn’t just control the blood of their enemies, or people who could control metal couldn’t just manipulate the iron in someone’s body.
However, Umbra was a bit more unique in this case. For starters, as a dragon, his control over Mana was impeccable. Moreover, as a Tenebrous dragon, his Affinity to anything related to darkness was almost unmatched, so forget using his Mana to control darkness, Darkness actively sought him out to be manipulated, making it so that the cost required to control natural darkness was close to zero for Umbra.
As a result, he didn’t need to acknowledge the nuances of sending Mana into someone’s body to take control of the darkness within them since it actively sought to be manipulated by him.
In short, Umbra had a very good method of bypassing the defenses of his opponents. Chiara didn’t, and she didn’t like that.
At first. She didn’t feel too dissatisfied, after all, among the many properties of the light she wielded, penetrative was something she excelled at, and it was extremely difficult to defend against her attacks. However, while difficult, it wasn’t impossible.

As such, she was looking for ways to do something similar to Umbra and attack her opponents directly and bypass their defenses. But so far, she’d been stumped.
But it didn’t take long for her to discover a viable avenue and one which she found to be very interesting.
The moment she unsealed Gaz’s abilities, his Aura erupted and he stared at Chiara hatefully.
“You should have just killed me while you had the chance. You dragons and your stupid pride.” He said with spite and Chiara just smiled.
‘I’m angry, but I need to be careful. Her speed and strength are nothing to scoff at, so I can’t take my eyes off her, no matter what.’ Gaz thought as he kept his eyes trained on her and strained his senses to the max. He wouldn’t take any chances with her and fight to his absolute best. Yes he called her pride stupid, but he was prepared for a life-or-death battle.
However, Chiara never moved, never made an attempt to move, and instead just smiled.
And before Gaz could do anything, his vision darkened and he fell down, dead.
The members of the Genesis Corps watched with horror as the powerful Apex ranked entity was standing there just fine a moment before, and a moment later, he fell limp, dead.
“Pretty succesful.” Chiara smiled as she walked over and grabbed Gaz’s body and tossed it on her back.
At first glance, the body seemed unharmed. But it one looked closely, they’d be able to see tiny, needle sized holes in his head and chest where his heart would be.
Chiara’s solution was simple. Similar to Umbra, she didn’t need to use Mana to control the natural light around her since it actively sought to be used. So the Nuances of sending her Mana into one’s body could be bypassed. However, she didn’t even need to do that.
After all, light was what enabled one to see, and if Gaz was looking at her, that meant light was directly hitting his eyes, and by extension, the rest of his body. Light that Chiara had access to.
As such, she created two concentrated beams of light and sent one into his heart and the other into his brain. Upon reaching their destinations, the beams exploded and shredded his heart and brain, killing him instantly. He quite literally didn’t know how he died.
Feeling satisfied with herself, she flew back to the Fortress and went to the portal and sent the body into it towards where Thanatos was.
