Chapter 78: And So It Begins II
And So It Begins II
“Goodness…” Aisha mumbled with a trembling voice. Her face was deathly pale And she was shivering slightly. But it wasn’t odd, considering the scene in front of them.
When the swarm of Void Creatures drew close, the Elves decided to abandon their usual tactics and fight them at the edge of the forest where the capital was located.
Usually, they preferred to fight within the forest due to the huge advantage it gave them in group battles. It was so effective in fact, that one of the primary reasons the Elves weren’t desirable opponents was because attacking them was akin to a fool’s errand.
However, that advantage nor reputation would be able to play a role here. After all, what was the point of having so much cover if the enemy could simply walk through it like it didn’t exist?
As such, Sylvaris decided that they would meet the charge of the Void Creatures at the edge of the massive forest.
The Elves weren’t weak by any means, along the treeline, thousands of them coukd be seen in the trees at the edge of the forest, ranged weapons drawn. And on the ground, thousands of melee soldiers waited in formation to receive the attack.
However, when faced with their true enemy, everyone felt their conviction starting to crumble. And one couldn’t blame them.
It was essentially just a sea of black.
For as far as the eyes could see, it was just Void Creatures. Just one of these things would be capable of causing incomparable damage, and yet there were thousands of them. Who wouldn’t be intimidated?
Aisha felt a hand fall on her shoulder and she looked up to see her mother who had a somber expression on her face.
Sylvaris no longer wore her pretty green dress, and instead wore a valiant green battle dress that gave off a powerful Aura, and In her hand was an exquisitely carved wooden wand with a green gem at its top.
“What do you see Aisha?” Sulvaris asked calmly and Aisha gulped before staring forward and closed her eyes.
After a moment, they snapped open and her body trembled.
“N-Nothing… I can’t see anything…” Sylvaris frowned at this.
“How?” She pressed and Aisha shook her head frantically.
“There… there are no Fate threads… it’s all blank… everyone here…” She didn’t finish, but the meaning was clear.
Everyone here was going to die.
However.
“Ah!” She suddenly exclaimed.
“So… bright…” Aisha’s eyes widened and her mother frowned.
“Now what?” She asked and Aisha had a look of amazement on her face.
“The threads… they’re coming back. But there’s this very bright one…” She trailed off as her eyes followed Something, and then they widened.
“I see… no wonder.” She mumbled and her mother followed her gaze.
On a large branch not too far from them, Thanatos could be seen standing silently. His picture was relaxed, and even though he was wearing a mask, he seemed utterly unperturbed by the huge mass of Void Creatures.
“I think it’s possible. We might be able to survive this, because of him.” Aisha mumbled and Sylvaris exhaled.
Truth be told, she had her doubts about Thanatos. She still did, mostly because of the fact that he was a Lich and his attunement to death went against everything the Elves stood for.
But her daughter was also one of the most transparent People she’d ever met, not just because she was her daughter, but Aisha was just a naturally honest person.
Sure she’d lie to avoid something. But she wasn’t really keen on manipulating people or sowing discord just because. And coupled with her attunement to Fate, Sylvarisknee she could trust her daughter.
So yes,she felt very iffy about Thanatos, but she trusted her daughter was speaking the truth.

She sighed.
‘I never imagined I’d have Lich as an ally one day. But life is unpredictable like that, I suppose.’ She shook her head and looked forward again.
The Swarm was now just a few dozen Kilometers away and Sylvaris exhaled.
Thanatos had offered to deal with the issue immediately, however she declined the offer and said that she and the Elves would at least try first.
She wasn’t ashamed to admit that her pride wouldn’t allow her to so willingly accept help from a Lich. Was it dumb? Yes, but a small part of her wanted to believe that they could do it on their own.
But the closer the swarm got, the more she questioned her decision making skills.
‘It doesn’t matter. We’ll just do what we can until he has to step in.’ She thought. She wasn’t going to send the melee fighters forward because fighting the Void Creatures in close range was basically suicide, and they were essentially supposed to act as the last line of defense.
As for the first line.
Sylvaris sighed again and turned to Eleanor who was standing behind them.
“Tell the archers and ranged combatants to get ready.” She ordered and the valiant elf nodded firmly.
“Yes your highness!” She immediately turned around to carry out the order whole Sylvaris stepped forward to the edge of the branch, Aisha watching on silently.
The crystal on top of Sylvaris’ staff glowed with an enriching green light as Sylvaris stared at the army of Void Creatures. They were about 14 Kilometers away now.
Without wasting any more time, she pointed her staff forward and mumbled quietly.
“Nature Manifestation: Great Tree.” Immediately she said that, Mana surged and the crystal on her staff let out a bright green light.
Then, several Kilometres ahead, not too far away from the swarm of creatures, a green magic circle blazed to life.
It was a meter in diameter and gave off intense life force with its presence alone. But that wasn’t all.
From it, roots suddenly started To grow, and then they grew upwards and weaved into an impossibly thick trunk, and higher still until they formed branches, and on these branches, leaves began to form.
And in a few short moments, a massive tree stood proudly, standing between the swarm of Void Creatures and The forest the Elves called their home.
With a thought, roots started to emerge from the ground with the tree as the center, each root incredibly thick and powerful.
The roots weaved between each other and formed a large wall of roots that was dozens of meters tall and stretched on for about a similar number of Kilometers.
In mere seconds, a massive barricade stood between the swarm of Void Creatures and the great forest.
And not long after, the Void Creatures reached it.
They crashed into the barrier with terrible force and the found trembled in their wake. But it held… for the moment.
Almost immediately after, all sorts of ranged attacks started to rain down from the trees towards the swarm as they tried to break past the barrier.
The attacks landed, however they had very minimal results.
Sylvaris’ barricade was made from her considerably purer Mana. As such it was able to resist the onslaught of attacks somewhat.
But the soldiers weren’t the same as her, and pretty much all their attacks were deleted the moment they came into contact with the bodies of the Creatures.
As such, not a single creature died.
Meanwhile, Sylvaris grunted slightly as she felt the wall starting to break down in numerous places. She quickly poured her Mana in to repair the breaches, but it was clear that she was merely delaying the inevitable.
‘The Great Tree is my strongest large scale defensive spell, and yet it won’t even last more than a minute.’ The realisation was… terrifying to say the least.
This move, the few times she used it, had endured attacks on a similar scale to the one Christopher used to destroy the terror Tarantula and higher. And yet it was getting dismantled like paper in front of these Creatures.
‘I’m out of my league here.’ She sighed. She couldn’t deny the reality anymore.
If she kept waiting, the Creatures would break through and her people could die. She couldn’t allow that.
So with a reluctant sigh, she turned to face the masked figure who, up until now, hadn’t uttered a single word.
“… We require your assistance.” Sylvaris said simply and Thanatos just nodded as he had been expecting it.
Without a word, he walked to the edge of the branch and then hopped off it.
Strangely enough, his body seemed to glide down gently. Passing over the formation of anxious Elves below him.
Many saw him and were both confused and curious. The few that recognised him knew that he had been spending time with the Queen since the time the army of Creatures had been discovered.
So many were curious to see what this person was going to do.
Thanatos landed softly not too far away from the main army and stared forward. By now quite a few of the creatures had scaled over the wall and were starting to approach very quickly.
But he was unperturbed.
The Deathweaver’s Mantle fluttered and there was a slight pause before an eruption of Mana came from Thanatos.
The sky darkened and everyone found it difficult to breathe as the dreadful Mana descended.
Sylvaris, who had been expecting something like this, still paled when she felt the outburst.
“This… Monarch…?!” She exclaimed with terror.
‘What sort of monster does he have as a Subordinate?!’ Aisha screamed in her mind as Thanatos stretched out his hand, the Ring of Eternal Dread glistening darkly as he spoke softly, but his voice was loud enough for all to hear.
“My Dread Legion. Come forth.” Immediately the words left his mouth, all hell broke loose.
To his far right, a massive black and purple magic circle appeared. Its size was at least twice the size of the one Sylvaris had summoned and ten times as complex.
It’s appearance alone gave off a terrifying Aura of Dread that made whoever looked at it feel nothing but sheer, indescribable terror.
And yet he wasn’t done.
2, 6, 14, 35…
In a few breaths, around a hundred of these circles appeared. Some on the ground, some vertically in the sky, and a few directly text to Thanatos himself.
And then the Undead emerged.
No time was wasted as from within these circles, countless Undead soldiers started to come forth. From simple foot soldiers, to harrowing dullahans, to bone amalgamation to giant flying creatures.
And then beside Thanatos, the magic circles there shimmered and three Titanic bone abominations came through, each of them more than a hundred meters tall.
And there was something else that was simply mind numbing.
The weakest skeleton here had an aura equivalent to the blue rank
