Chapter 168: New Identity Revealed
“She didn’t get any reaction,” Mia, Michelle’s assistant informed Michelle.
“Are you sure the crew you bribed did as I instructed?” Michelle barked through the phone, her voice so loud that Mia had to hold her phone away from her ear to avoid damaging her eardrums. “We both know that preservatives in makeup products trigger Anastasia’s allergy, and this is the only way we have to confirm if Selene is Anastasia!”
“I assure you ma’am. The crew said she completed her work and I made sure to threaten her well. This only means that Selene isn’t Anastasia and there’s nothing for you to worry about anymore,” Mia responded.
In frustration, Michelle ended the call abruptly. Mia’s responses were not what she wanted to hear.
Despite her attempts to convince her parents that Selene wasn’t Anastasia, Michelle couldn’t shake her inner turmoil. No matter how much she argued or tried to prove her point, the doubt lingered. The only way she could find any semblance of peace was by definitively confirming that Selene was not, in fact, Anastasia. Until then, the uncertainty would continue to haunt her.
“Arghh!!” Michelle yelled like a mad woman whose red button had been tapped. “That woman is playing tricks with me.”

Selene played with her fork as she waited for Xavier to come down to dinner. He did tell her to eat since he was busy with work, but she wanted to be a needy wife and eat with him. However, he hadn’t arrived yet.
“Is there a problem?” A servant asked her and Selene immediately shook her head.
“Help me with a tray, I will go to Xavier’s study room and give him his food,” she requested.
The maid scurried off to the kitchen and brought a tray along with her, placed the foot on it, and then secured it with a cover plate.
Selene carried to tray as she headed towards Xavier’s study room.
Just when she was about to knock, she heard him saying a few things.
“I’m going to tell her soon. Look, you don’t need to remind me how important this is. I’m not comfortable keeping such a secret from Selene,” she heard from inside Xavier’s study room.
‘Xavier is keeping a secret from me?’ She thought as her heart hammered in her chest. She decided to drop her hand and waited to hear the rest of his words.
Selene was aware she was eavesdropping on Xavier’s conversation, which was the wrong thing to do. But the conversation he was having concerned her, and she was curious to find out more.
Leaning towards the door, she placed her ears to hear him properly.
“I know she’s your sister, but she’s also my wife,” he declared. “I need to prepare her for the truth. All her life, she thought the Harrison were her real family. How do you think Selene is going to react when I tell her she’s a member of the Clark family?” Xavier questioned.
Instantly, he heard the sharp, shattering sound of glass coming from behind his door.
Quickly, Xavier hung up on the call and walked towards the door. He spread it open, only to find Selene outside with shattered plates and spilled food on the ground. She stared at him with eyes widened in disbelief.
“I’m what?” She asked, her voice barely audible.
Xavier clenched his teeth before he called, “Mrs. Austin, can you please clear this for me?”
The woman being called arrived in less than a minute and immediately got to work, while Xavier pulled Selene into his study room and shut the door.
“What were you doing outside my study room? You could have just entered,” he nagged her as he pulled out the first aid kit box and started treating her bleeding legs which had made contact with the shattered pieces of plates.
“W-what did you say? A-about me being a member of the Clark family? What was that all about?” She questioned, tears already pooling in her eyes as she tried to contain her emotions, but it slipped no matter how hard she caged it in.
Xavier sighed, blaming himself since she had to find out about her true identity this way.
He decided to explain everything to her. Her encounter with Ezekiel at the Wallace corporation, him doing a background check on her. The incident, then the DNA test she had with Kael without her knowledge, which only confirmed she was indeed the lost daughter of the Clark family, Ava Clark.
Selene listened to Xavier attentively, making sure not to miss a word he said. But the more she listened to him, the more she wanted to go to the Harrison mansion with a knife and stab Robert to death.
Everything made sense to her. She was treated differently from Michelle and Jack because she wasn’t related to either Robert or Amelia.
“They messed up my life,” she chuckled as tears continued to stream down her face. It was an odd reaction and Xavier stared at her with worry. “They played with me, they used me because I wasn’t related to them by blood. Isn’t that hilarious, Xavier?” She asked, laughing hysterically.

Immediately, Xavier pulled her to his chest and wrapped his hands around her.
“I want to kill them, Xavier,” she mumbled against him, her hot breath fanning his chest. “I want to dice them up like meat.”
If there was one thing Xavier didn’t want Selene to get involved in, that would be staining her hands with blood.
But she had been lied to all her life, used, and then almost killed when they had no use for her anymore.
Despite coming for revenge with another identity, they still wanted to discard her as they did with Anastasia. He wasn’t going to let that happen in his lifetime.
“You know you have my full support in everything you do. Kill them, and I will take care of discarding their bodies where no one would ever find it,” he replied.
Xavier felt her smile against his chest as her hands wrapped around him tightly.
“But before that, I want to meet my new family. The Clark family,” she requested.
