Chapter 202: Deaf Ears
The day for the family dinner between the Wallace family and the Clark family has finally arrived.
Anastasia and Xavier were the first to arrive because Anastasia insisted on helping out her mother and the servants with the cooking.
As soon as Anastasia arrived at the Clark mansion, she hugged her family excluding Tracie who seemed to have a distant look on her face, which bothered her before she headed towards the kitchen.
“Mother, what can I help you within the kitchen?” Anastasia asked, all hyped up as she washed her hands in the sink.
“Oh dear, you know you don’t have to help, but since you ins—” Nora paused when she caught Xavier by the corners of her eyes and he shook his head slightly, then mouthed She can’t cook.
Nora was a little shocked at first, but nodded in understanding.
“You don’t have to help me cook, sweetie. We are almost done. See…” Nora gestured towards the dishes which had already been prepared. “We are almost done,” she repeated.
Anastasia huffed in disappointment but stayed in the kitchen nonetheless. However, when she wanted to help with the food, Nora would give her other tasks while the servants handled the preparation of the rest of the meal.
An hour later, the doorbell rang and everyone stood frozen. The air suddenly felt chilly for Anastasia and the faces of everyone in the living had changed.
Quickly, a servant ran to open the door, and the faces of both Mr. and Mrs. Wallace came into view. They both held stoic expressions, but as soon as they saw them, Mrs. Wallace gave them a smile.
Anastasia glanced between her father and father-in-law, and she could see the glare they shared.
The atmosphere of the living room is suddenly tense and cold, and Anastasia marches towards her in-laws to welcome them inside.
Although she wasn’t close with either of them, she still pulled a smile on her face as she greeted, “Welcome, mother, father.”
Mrs. Wallace smiled at her as she gave her a brief hug.
“What about grandma?”
“Are you asking about me?” They suddenly heard a woman ask. Mrs. Wallace made way for the servant who was pushing old Wallace.
Anastasia’s eyes widened in shock when she spotted old Wallace in a wheelchair.
“Grandma, what happened to you? Why are you in a wheelchair?” She asked.
“Don’t mind me. It’s this woman you are seeing here,” old Wallace responded, pointing at Mrs. Wallace with a side-eye.
“Her legs are starting to get weak and I suggested she use a wheelchair even though she objected,” Mrs Wallace immediately defended herself.
Old Wallace mumbled something under her breath but still didn’t say anything anymore.
Anastasia welcomed them into the house. Jeffrey and Mr Wallace exchanged handshakes which was as stiff as a tree. While Mrs Wallace and Nora shared a hug which seemed surprisingly casual, unlike the handshake of the two fathers.
“Was I late?” They suddenly heard a voice that made them turn their heads back towards the entrance.
Anastasia glared at Richard as he walked into the mansion, looking better than she’d left him months ago.
When the both of them made eye contact, Richard glared at her.
Anastasia made eye contact with Xavier, and the latter was just as shocked as she was. They were never told Richard would be coming along.
The Clark family were a little flabbergasted when they saw Richard. However, Nora still acknowledged him.
“Please come in, Richard.”
Mr Wallace exchanged eye contact with Xavier before they went to the dining table.
Nora welcomed them to the dining table and everyone took a seat.

“I’m glad to see that your family is finally complete, Mr. Clark,” Richard commented at the awkward table. “And the fact that Anastasia has been posing as someone all this while. If I had known she was your daughter, I would have brought her to you myself,” he added with a long sigh.
The table went silent as the sound of the cutleries went faint.
Tracie glanced at Anastasia, Xavier, and Richard. Immediately, she knew someone was up.
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” She questioned Richard with a cocked eyebrow.
Richard glanced at Tracie.
“I was just saying…”
“It looks like you still have the mouth to speak rubbish, Richard. I made a mistake by letting you have that,” Xavier interrupted coldly.
Richard immediately felt the hair on his spine stand on their ends. Although he was seated causally opposite Xavier, eating his dinner, he wanted to stab Xavier with his fork and he loved that dream.
Ignoring Xavier, Richard turned to Anastasia and asked, “How about Anastasia? You should have come to me and I would have brought you to the Clark family. Don’t you like that?”
“Not only do you have the mouth to talk rubbish, you are also deaf,” Tracie said, stabbing her meat before diving it into her mouth. “Are you forgetting you are in the Clark mansion? Do you want me to teach you some lessons?
“You children better not fight here,” old Wallace warned. “You can go ahead and fight after the meal is over.”
Both Richard and Tracie exchanged glares, but no one spoke a word as they devoured their food in complete silence.
After the family dinner, Jeffrey and Mr. Wallace, together with Xavier, excused themselves to talk, while Anastasia hung with Kael, and Ezekiel with Tracie who’d still not spoken a word to Anastasia since she arrived with Xavier.
Nora and Mrs Wallace were in the kitchen, discussing some stuff while they ordered some servants where to arrange the leftovers of their meal. Old Wallace was also with them.
Giving Tracie a side eye, Anastasia tapped Kael on the shoulder. “Hey, why did Tracie defend me like that?”
“I have no idea. Maybe she’s finally warming up to you now,” he replied with a mere shrug.
“What are the both of you talking about?” Tracie suddenly asked the both of them, making them flinch since they didn’t expect she could have heard them.
