Chapter 219: He Called
Xavier smirked, having already been expecting the call from the other person on the line.
Usually, his personal phone number was tightly secured, with multiple layers of protection ensuring no one could reach him unless he personally shared it. He had taken great care to keep it private, knowing the importance of controlling who had access to him.
However, the number he was able to use to get through to Xavier wasn’t protected. A trainee hacker could easily retrieve it, which was why Xavier wasn’t too surprised when he heard his voice for the first time in many years.
Quickly, Xavier placed the call on a loudspeaker, so that everyone else could hear.
“You’d better stop your killing, you bastard! If you want to come at us, then do it like a man. Don’t go around hurting innocent people!” Kace yelled.
A smile graced the other person’s lips, stretching it so further wide it made him look like the devil’s replica.
“Who said they’re innocent people? No one on earth is innocent. I was just helping clean the dirt around.” Then he sighed. “I thought you guys would appreciate my effort, but you’re yelling at me as if I killed an innocent person,” he defended.
Both Maxwell and Kace shared a frustrated look before Kace palmed his forehead in an even bigger frustration.
“Why did you call?” Xavier questioned, giving Maxwell a glance and the latter immediately knew what Xavier wanted him to do, so he nodded in response.
“I only wanted to check up on you, to see if you’re waiting for my arrival,” he responded. “I’m sure you must miss me. Kace, you too right?”
Kace didn’t bother to respond, fully knowing well his patience was being tested.
“If you want us to talk, give me an address, and we will talk,” Xavier tried to bargain, although only he knew how much anger he had in him. If he ever saw the person from the other line, he was sure he would break his skull on the nearest wall.
“Talk? I don’t want to talk with you, Xavier. However….” He paused, checking his painted nails, his smirk stretching further. “Someone or something close to you has quite intrigued me. What’s her name again? Anastasia Clark, right?”
The room Xavier and the others went silent—no sound being made—not even the ticking sound of the clock could be heard.
“Don’t you dare go near her,” Xavier warned, his tone low and carrying so many threats in that sentence alone. “I’m going to kill you if you dare go near her!”
The person from the other side of the phone chuckled one more time, as if mocking Xavier and his threats.
“How are you going to kill someone you can’t find?”
Xavier glanced at Maxwell and the latter shook his head horizontally.
“I was only joking. Hmm… I wasn’t.” The sound turned serious and cold. “I’m going to start by killing everyone close to you, talking everything you once took away from me Xavier, and I’ll never stop until I’ve taken everything away from you. I was just killing civilians you don’t even know and you’re this hurt? What if I killed Anastasia? How would you feel then?”
“I’m warning you, Xander! Don’t come close to my wife, else I will kill you without batting an eyelash.”
Xavier heard him chuckle again before the call was hung up, and Xavier slammed the phone on the desk without a care in the world if it was broken or not.
“Did you find anything?” Xavier questioned Maxwell, making the latter jolt.
“Nothing at all. The call was untraceable which is why he took his time. He knew we wouldn’t be able to trace it. It’s most likely he’s using a burner phone,” Maxwell informed.
Xavier nodded in understanding before storming out of the room.
Reaching a quiet corner, he placed a call with his original phone.
On the first ring, the call was instantly answered, and the soothing voice on the other end washed over him, calming him down almost instinctively.
“My love, where are you?” He asked.
At Xastia company, Anastasia was flipping through some papers, her fingers threatening to fall off, while her eyes threatened to close down.
“I’m at the office. Why? Is there a problem?” She asked, noticing the little hint of worry in his tone despite how much he tried to conceal it.
“No problem at all. I’m sending Ito over.” He checked the time on his wrist. “Let’s go have lunch. Ito will drive you to the restaurant.”

Anastasia frowned. “Why will Ito come here?” She asked.
“Nothing! Tracie told me those shareholders are giving you a hard time. They might already start getting some ideas,” he responded, which wasn’t completely a lie.
The shareholders still aren’t happy with the change of CEO. Rudy has already been bought out by Anastasia. However, Logan and the others were in cahoots with each other, and he was sure they must be plotting something.
“Get ready. I will make a reservation at a nearby restaurant so that we can have some lunch.” He smooched her at the end of the call, not giving her a chance to protest.
Anastasia dropped her phone, wondering what had gotten into him.
The door to the office opened and Tracie stepped inside, carrying two cups of coffee.
“Those employees of yours are starting to piss me off,” she grumbled, placing the cups of coffee on the desk. “Whenever I come here, they keep staring at me like they’ve never seen my face before. I asked one for directions to your office today, and she ran away. Like what…”
“Well, have you seen your face when you’re walking? You look like you’re going to war,” Anastasia replied, surprised that Tracie was in her office. The latter never texted her about coming there.
Tracie merely shrugged, not caring to bother.
Anastasia informed her of the lunch Xavier was planning, and the both of them left immediately with Tracie pulling Anastasia out of the office.
