Chapter 284: Someone Like You
The girl seated on their lap, together with the one seated on his left side started making out and he was tempted to join in.
“And I must say, he looks anything but useless to me,” Bruce added, keeping eye contact with Mr Wallace this time.
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” Mr Wallace questioned Bruce.
Both of them had been friends for the longest time in secret. Bruce was indeed the boss of the underworld, but since Jeffrey’s father and Mr. Wallace’s father had annihilated his men, he wasn’t as powerful as he was before anymore. He had his own family, but he didn’t expect him to be keeping an eye on his son.
Bruce chuckled lightly, bringing a glass of alcohol to his lips to gobble it down. Then, he sent the girls away. They kissed him on both cheeks before they departed.
“I don’t mean anything at all, Thomas. But I see a lot of potential in that kid. You just don’t see it.” Bruce shook his head horizontally with a smirk on his lips which Mr Wallace didn’t quite understand at all.
“I see nothing but failure in him,” said Mr Wallace as he took a sip of his drink.
He decided to change the topic since Bruce had nothing important to say about his unfilial son.
“What about our business, Bruce? Have you figured out a way we can get those girls?” He asked.
It’s been almost a week since they’d decided to change from illegal weapon selling to sex trafficking, and since that day, they’d been thinking of ways to get girls.
Normally, they couldn’t possibly ask girls to agree to be sold for money. So, they decided to go with kidnapping them.
“We’re going to start kidnapping them. But, we can’t have someone who has a family. If the families of the girls start making complaints, then trouble is going to stir up. So, we have to go with orphans.”
Mr Wallace gave it a thought. Orphans didn’t have any family members who could want to check up on them after they’d been kidnapped.
“Orphans are good….” He muttered, subconsciously sipping his drink when the words coming from the television interrupted him from his thoughts.
In unison, Bruce and Mr Wallace’s head snapped towards the television hanging on the wall so everyone could see what was being displayed on it.
However, when their eyes recognized the person on the television, extreme fear that froze their bodies gripped them.
“The president has been caught,” Bruce mumbled.
It was the president of Radiantia, the one who had allowed them to begin their first business of importing illegal weapons into the city.
Unfortunately, it turned out he’d been accused of other crimes whose allegations had been proved right.
It turned out the president had been caught in an odd-looking abandoned business that his men had been guarding and there, they found two young underaged girls.
The reporter went on to show the two girls who were so skinny it seemed they lost weight with every single carbon dioxide they released.
“He told us if we didn’t do everything he wanted us to, he would kill our parents and kill us too,” the first girl struggled to say as tears streamed down her eyes.
“We told him to stop, we didn’t like it but he kept on going,” the second girl who seemed younger than the first girl added as she hugged the first girl.
From their facial similarity, it was obvious they were siblings.
The camera was taken away from them and the reporter returned to the screen.
“I’m sure Jeffrey is the one behind this,” Mr Wallace said.
“We are not sure about that, Thomas. It could be anyone,” Bruce replied, but deep down he had the same thought as Mr Wallace.
Mr Wallace could easily call Jeffrey and ask him if he was the one responsible for the arrest of the president, but since the disappearance of Ava, coupled with the lie he’d orchestrated against Jeffrey, they didn’t speak with each other anymore.
“We would need to be careful about Jeffrey, he’s been more active lately and if we’re not careful about him, we might be the next ones to appear on the television.”
A chill ran down Mr. Wallace’s back when he heard Bruce’s words because those words were true.

Xander opened the door for Arabella as she got out of the car.
“I never knew you had this gentlemanly attitude in you,” she joked as he chuckled.
Their date was over and he’d offered to give her a ride home especially since he kept feeling that unknown gaze at his back. Even currently, at her home, he could still feel it which caused his blood to boil in anger.
He didn’t want to believe one of the girls in their school was following them out of spite which would put Arabella in harm’s way.
“Goodnight,” he said, pecking her on the cheeks since it would be too inappropriate to kiss her on the lips.
“Goodnight.”
Xander waited for her to get inside her house before he got into the car and the driver zoomed off.
As soon as Arabella got inside her living room and locked the door, she saw her mother and father sitting on the couch, probably waiting for her.
“It’s so long. Why did you come back late?” Her mother questioned with concern laced in her tone as she stood up and marched towards Arabella, pulling her onto the couch to sit in between her and her father.
“Xander took me to a restaurant and he got us dinner,” she responded, showcasing the bag of food in her hand with enthusiasm but her parents didn’t reciprocate it.
“Arabella…” Her father called her, making her turn to face it. “We’re worried that this relationship you have with Xander might bring you nothing but trouble.”
“You said it yourself. He came from a rich family. Have you thought of what would happen if his parents find out their son is dating someone like you?” Her mother’s words felt like a dagger that had stabbed itself into her heart.
“Someone like me?” She asked, confusion etched in her expression.
