Chapter 108: Feed your husband.
Ava spun on her heel, her wide, stunned eyes locking with Dylan’s.
“Someone is there,” he added urgently, “trying to frame him. Trust me—someone gave me false evidence to make me believe he was responsible for the accident. I don’t know who it is yet, but I’ll find out.”
‘Trying to frame him! False evidence!’ Those words echoed in her ears. Ava stared at him, her mind twisting with disbelief. Why would anyone go to such lengths to frame her father and manipulate Dylan? None of it made sense.
Then another thought crept in. ‘He is making up stories to keep you tied to him. Don’t fall for it again, Ava. You can’t forget what he did to you, the pain he caused.’
Tears welled in her eyes as she stepped back, her body trembling with the force of her emotions. “This is just another one of your tricks. It’s part of your revenge plan, isn’t it? You’re trying to trap me again.”
Dylan shook his head as he took a step toward her, his hand reaching out. “Ava, no—I am telling you the truth.”
“I don’t trust you!” she burst out. “I’ll never trust you!” She dashed out the door in a frenzy.
“Ava!” Dylan shouted after her with despair, but she didn’t stop.
Ava didn’t dare look back, her heart pounding wildly as she fled, her mind screaming at her to put as much distance as possible between herself and the man she couldn’t bear to trust again.
Dylan sagged back into the hospital bed, his body heavy with exhaustion, but his mind a whirlwind of helplessness and anger. His fingers gripped the edge of the mattress tightly. He replayed the fragments of his haunting dream—the folder filled with evidence, the blurry, unintelligible video.
It was indeed disappointing, but a glimmer of hope remained. ‘If Justin found the evidence in my past life, he can find it again now,’ he thought, determination lighting a fire within him.
“I have to uncover this conspiracy before it’s too late,” Dylan muttered under his breath. The realization struck him like a bolt of lightning. “In my past life, this enemy manipulated me, used me as a weapon against Thomas. I won’t let that happen again.”
His features twisted with anger and resolve. “Whoever you are, I’ll find you. And this time, you won’t get away with it.”
Grabbing his phone, he quickly scrolled through his contacts and pressed the call button for Justin. The line rang twice before connecting.
“Mr. Brooks?” Justin’s voice came through, cautious but attentive. “I was about to call you. There is something I need to tell you.”
“Come to the hospital,” Dylan commanded, not listening to what Justin was saying. “Now.” He ended the call without waiting for a response, his mind already working through the next steps.
On the other hand, Ava hurried through the hospital lobby. But as she rounded a corner, she came to an abrupt stop, her eyes landing on a familiar figure.
“Oh, my goodness, Ava!” Lilianna exclaimed, placing a hand over her chest dramatically. “You scared me!”
“Lilianna?” Ava blinked, stunned to see her there. “What are you doing here? Are you here for a checkup?”
“Huh!” Lilianna sighed exaggeratedly. “Do you think I won’t find out Dylan is in the hospital just because you didn’t tell me? Well, sweety – I am Dylan’s twin sister. I can feel when he is in pain.”
Ava bit her lip, guilt flickering across her face. “I didn’t want to worry you,” she said softly. “How did you find out?”
“Who else but Justin?” Lilianna flashed a cunning smile. “I’ve felt like something was off since last night, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Then when you rushed out this morning, I knew something was wrong. So, I called Justin.”
‘Justin, you fool,’ Ava groaned inwardly. ‘Why did you tell her everything?’
Lilianna’s expression shifted, concern clouding her features as she noticed the faint traces of tears on her face. “Ava, have you been crying?” she asked, stepping closer. “What’s going on? Is Dylan okay?”
“He is fine,” Ava replied quickly, forcing a reassuring tone. “Don’t worry about him.”
“Thank goodness,” Lilianna breathed. Her shoulders relaxed, a relieved sigh escaping her lips. But that relief didn’t last long. “Where were you running away in a hurry? Aren’t you staying with him?”
“Uh…” Ava scratched her brow, fumbling for an excuse. “I thought I’d go back and… cook something for him. You know, to help him feel better.”
“I already brought his favorite soup.” Lilianna held up a lunch box triumphantly. “Let’s go see him together. This will cheer him up and help him recover faster.”
Before Ava could protest, Lilianna practically dragged her toward Dylan’s ward.

When Dylan saw Ava walking into the ward with Lilianna by her side, his heart skipped a beat. He hadn’t expected her to return, especially after the way she had stormed out. But the sight of her sent a rush of joy through him.
His chest swelled with gratitude toward Lilianna for bringing her back, but he masked his happiness with a facade of irritation.
“Lilianna, what are you doing here?” he asked sharply. “Who told you about me? Ava?” He cast Ava a sidelong glance, his expression carefully wounded, though inside, he was thrilled.
Ava’s mouth twisted in irritation, her temper flaring. She was ready to fire back, but before she could, Lilianna cut in.
“Don’t start blaming her. I called Justin and found out about your accident myself. Well, it was a poor attempt to hide things from me. Don’t even try that again.”
Lilianna’s mouth formed a tight pout. “And don’t yell at your wife. You have no idea how worried she has been. She didn’t eat properly last night, and barely slept, and today morning, she rushed to see you. Do you know how much she cares about you?”
Ava’s jaw dropped slightly in shock. Lilianna’s bold declaration left her utterly speechless, and for once, she had no words to defend herself.
Dylan, on the other hand, looked thoroughly amused. “Really?” he drawled with mock surprise. “You care about me?”
Ava snapped her gaze toward him, her expression darkening. She didn’t even need to speak; the warning in her sharp glare was loud and clear: ‘Don’t mess with me.’
“Of course, she cares!” Lilianna chimed in cheerfully. “She even prepared soup for you.” With a gleeful smile, she held up the lunch box to show Dylan.
Ava’s eyes widened in disbelief, her head whipping toward Lilianna. “I—” she started, but Lilianna was already barreling ahead, leaving no room for objections.
“She was in such a hurry this morning that she forgot to bring it with her,” Lilianna added. “So here I am to deliver it.” She shoved the lunch box into Ava’s hands and gestured toward Dylan. “Go on, feed your husband.”
