Chapter 11: Let’s get a divorce.
“Ah!” Gianna yelped, her hand flying to her cheek.
The impact was forceful, turning her face to the side. Her skin burned, her ears ringing. The pain brought tears to her eyes immediately.
“You crazy!” Gianna whipped her head toward Ava, glaring at her.
“I won’t apologize for what I haven’t done,” Ava snapped back. “You tried to frame me, and I hit you. We are even now.”
“Dylan!” Gianna cried out, anger and helplessness mingling on her face. “How could you let her bully me?”
Dylan was infuriated. He could tolerate anything but not this. He had promised his best friend on his death bed to take care of Gianna and protect her always.
He stepped toward Ava, his eyes blazing with frustration. “I told you to apologize! And instead, you hit her again? How can you behave like this?”
Ava stood her ground, her chin held high, unflinching in the face of his anger. “I did what she deserved,” she spat with cold defiance. “Don’t think for one second that I’ll let you or anyone else bully me again. I won’t apologize.”
Dylan grabbed her wrist and pulled her inside the room.
“Uh!” Before Gianna could say anything or stop him, the door was slammed shut on her face. She stood there, speechless momentarily. Then her lips curled into a sly smile.
“Dylan will punish you for this, Ava,” she said with a twisted satisfaction. But her face turned grim as she rubbed her cheek, her smile disappearing. “And for the slap, I won’t spare you.”
Inside the room…
Dylan pinned Ava against the wall, his hands gripping her wrists with bruising intensity. His icy gaze locked onto her, but Ava didn’t flinch. She met his stare with fierce defiance, twisting her body in an attempt to break free.
“Let go of me,” she growled through clenched teeth.
But Dylan wasn’t in the mood to let her go. His grip remained firm, refusing to loosen even a fraction. He leaned closer, his face hovering inches from hers.
Ava’s breathing quickened at his proximity. Her gaze unwillingly drifted down to his bare shoulders, droplets of water still glistening from his recent shower. They trailed down to his exposed chest, muscular and dripping with an irritating allure. She swallowed hard, trying to push away the sensations rising within her.
Her body reacted to his closeness, wanting to feel his warmth. She cursed herself silently for reacting to him. She couldn’t forget what he had done to her, and she wouldn’t forget that. The pain, the anger, was still seared into her soul.
“I remember James saying that you refused to come and pick me up from the bar,” he murmured huskily. “So why are you here, early in the morning? To check on me?”
Ava’s anger flared again. She twisted her wrists in a futile struggle against his grip. She had indeed received a call from Erica the night before, who had claimed Dylan was ill.
Despite everything, Ava had felt a flicker of concern that she hated to admit. But standing before him now, seeing his current state, it was obvious he wasn’t sick.
“Don’t be delusional,” she spat, her eyes flashing with disdain. “I am not here for you. I came to take my things.”
Dylan’s hand shot out, grabbing Ava’s jaw, his grip firm and unyielding. He moved in even closer, his body almost pressing into hers. His breath fanned against her face.
“Liar!” His voice dropped into a dangerous growl. “You are here for me. I can see your desperation to get my attention – acting defiant and feisty. I like this change in you.” A sinister smile curled at the edge of his lips. “Since you’re so eager, I’ll fulfill your wish.”
Before Ava could react, he crushed his lips against hers in a forceful kiss. Shock rippled through her body as her eyes flew wide open, a mix of rage and disgust burning in her veins. She shoved him with all her strength, breaking the kiss, her breathing ragged and filled with anger.
“You’re disgusting, Dylan!” she spat, glaring at him with fiery contempt. “Your mistress, who you love so dearly, is right outside the room, and here you are kissing me!”
Dylan retorted, slamming his hands against the wall on either side of her head, trapping her. His eyes bore into hers, wild and intense.
Ava flinched at the force of his aggression, her heart pounding as the fire in his gaze pinned her in place.
Dylan’s expression softened slightly as he held her chin. “Gianna and I… it’s not what you think. We’re just—”
“I don’t want to hear your explanations,” Ava cut him off, slapping his hand away before he could finish. “I don’t care what your relationship is with her. You can date her, sleep with her, do whatever you want with her! I don’t give a damn.” Her words were filled with cold disdain. She pushed him away and turned to leave.

Dylan was quick. His hand shot up reflexively and grabbed her arm, pulling her back. “That’s enough, Ava!” he bellowed with a mixture of frustration and desperation.
“I know you are upset with me for missing our first marriage anniversary. I was busy – really busy with meetings. My phone was with Justin, and I specifically told him not to bother me. But the moment I heard you were in the hospital, I came rushing to you. I lost a major deal because of that. Do you even understand how important that was for the company?”
Ava let out a bitter laugh. “You always care about the company. Always. Do you think I don’t understand? I’ve been so stupid, waiting for you, hoping one day I’d matter to you, hoping I could somehow carve a place in your heart. But no more. I won’t repeat the mistakes.”
Dylan’s eyes narrowed at her words, his jaw clenching. “What do you mean?” he snarled, her words stirring restlessness within him.
Ava held his gaze with defiance and pulled her arm back from his grasp. “I realized I had fallen for the wrong guy,” she said, her tone low and icy. “I made a mistake by marrying you. You and I – we shouldn’t be together. Let’s get a divorce.”
