Chapter 111: Dylan has fallen for Ava.
At the hospital…
Ava’s heart raced as she made her way down the corridor. The news about Lilianna made her guilty. She had barely managed to hold herself together, blaming her own outburst for Lilianna’s condition.
‘This is my fault. I shouldn’t have lost control,’ she thought. The idea that Lilianna’s baby might be in danger twisted her stomach with dread.
When she reached the waiting area, she spotted Dylan sitting with Justin, their faces serious and voices low. The tension in their postures only deepened her fear. She feared that something bad had happened to Lilianna’s baby. Her legs wobbled slightly, but she forced herself forward.
Dylan was the first one to notice her approaching. His gaze flicked toward her briefly before he leaned closer to Justin. “Go back,” he murmured urgently. “Don’t let Ava know about any of this.”
“But!” Justin frowned, clearly displeased with the suggestion. “You should tell her. She has the right to know. Maybe this will help her see how serious you are.”
Dylan let out a quiet sigh. He had indeed tried to tell her, but she wouldn’t listen to him. “She won’t trust me,” he mumbled dejectedly. “First of all, we need to find out who is behind this. Before that, we won’t tell her anything.”
Justin’s lips pressed into a thin line, reluctant but understanding the reasoning. “Alright,” he relented grudgingly, standing to leave. “But you can’t keep this from her forever.”
Turning toward the hallway, Justin’s eyes met Ava’s. He forced a polite smile, giving her a small nod before walking past her.
Dylan’s eyes flickered toward Ava briefly before he deliberately looked away, his expression guarded. The coldness in his demeanor made Ava’s unease grow, her heart sinking further.
She hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Is Lilianna okay?” Her fingers twisted nervously as she tried to read his mood. The sharp edge in her voice was missing this time.
“What do you think?” he asked back a question in response, his tone clipped. “You warned me to be careful around Lilianna, didn’t you? But look at what you did—you upset her. You’re the one who distressed her.”
Ava’s face paled as guilt surged within her.
He maintained his gloomy appearance, feigning displeased. Though he felt a pang of guilt for his harshness, he knew it was necessary. He wanted her to stay, to feel responsible enough to not walk away from him again.
“The doctors managed to save her baby just in time,” he continued. “She was lucky she was already here at the hospital. A few minutes of delay could lead her to lose her baby.”
The moment the words left his lips, regret hit him like a wave. In his dream, he had seen Ava die with her unborn child in her womb. If she ever found out about it, she would be sad.
He looked at her instantly, meeting her tear-filled eyes, and his heart clenched. Dylan’s expression faltered, crumbling under the weight of his own guilt. “I…” he started.
“I didn’t mean to hurt her,” Ava interrupted, her voice trembling. “It was an impulsive action. I wasn’t thinking. It won’t happen again.”
“I know you didn’t do it on purpose.” Rising from his seat, he took a step forward and gently pulled her into his arms.
Ava stiffened in his embrace, stunned by his unexpected tenderness. It wasn’t like him to speak to her so gently or to offer comfort so readily. Her mind raced with questions.
‘Did he really change? Or is this just another one of his traps? A way to bind me to him again?’
“Forget about it,” Dylan murmured soothingly. “The important thing is that Lilianna and her baby are safe. You can see her once she is moved to the ward.”
Ava pulled away abruptly, stepping out of his arms. She avoided his gaze. “I’ll wait at the ward.” She turned and walked away in haste as if escaping him.
Dylan watched her retreating form, his lips curling slowly into amusement. “No matter how hard you try, you can’t escape me. I won’t let you leave me.”

Gianna’s heart skipped a beat when the guard informed her she had a visitor. A spark of hope lit up in her chest as she imagined Dylan had come to take her out of jail. She smoothed her hair hastily and strode to the visiting room. But as she stepped inside, her anticipation faltered.
He was not there. Instead, there was a woman, her face partially obscured by a scarf wrapped elegantly around her face. Her dark glasses further concealed her identity, giving her an air of mystery.
Gianna paused mid-step, squinting at the unfamiliar figure. ‘Who is she?’ she thought as she moved forward and sat down on the chair.
Gianna picked up the receiver cautiously, her sharp eyes fixed on the woman. The stranger mirrored her action, lifting the receiver with calm deliberation.

“Hello, Gianna,” the woman said in a cold yet composed tone. “How have you been doing?”
The voice sent a jolt through Gianna. Her breath hitched as recognition dawned. A smile bloomed on her face.
“It’s you!” she exclaimed with relief and excitement. “You came to take me out of here!”
“Don’t shout,” the woman warned her fiercely. “You are so annoying.”
The biting words chased the smile from Gianna’s lips, leaving her expression frozen in disbelief. The woman sitting before her, someone she had trusted and worked alongside for years, now felt like a stranger—distant and unrecognizable.
“Am I annoying?” Gianna snapped, her temper flaring. “Now that I am here, you find me annoying. I have been helping you all those years. Now get me out of here.”
“I don’t take orders,” the woman hissed dangerously, her eyes behind the black sunglasses flashing menacingly. “I issue orders.”
Gianna’s heart trembled at the ferocity in her tone. She realized she was in no position to argue. “Please,” she pleaded, her expression softening. “Take me out of here. I am begging you.”
“Why would I help you?” Her lips under the scarf quirked up into a sneer. “You’re useless to me now. You acted recklessly and got yourself caught. I don’t need a loser on my team.”
She was about to put the receiver down when she heard Gianna cry.
“Dylan has fallen for Ava. He will never leave her, let alone hurt her father. Soon they’ll be a happy family. Once Ava gives birth to Dylan’s child, you’ll lose everything.”
The woman froze mid-motion, her fingers gripping the receiver tightly as her head whipped back toward Gianna. “What did you just say?”
“Can’t you see, he put me in jail?” Gianna snarled, scrunching up her face. “Dylan chose Ava over me. And soon, you’ll end up just like me, rotting in a cell.”
She started laughing hysterically. “You will lose this game – you will lose everything.”
The woman slammed the receiver down and left in a hurry.
