Chapter 124: You forget what Thomas did!
Dylan stepped into Ava’s office, his sharp gaze immediately catching the flowers tossed carelessly into the trash bin. A flicker of disappointment crossed his face. However, he pretended as if he hadn’t noticed them. He quickly plastered a cheerful smile, striding toward her desk. “Are you free now?”
Ava had not finished her work yet. She had to figure out what those transactions were for. Before that, she wouldn’t go anywhere. She barely glanced at him; her focus glued to the screen.
“No,” she said flatly. “I have work to do.”
Dylan closed the laptop, earning a startled gasp from Ava.
“What are you doing?” Ava exclaimed, throwing up her arms in the air. “I was in the middle of something important!”
“You can finish it tomorrow. Right now, we’re going to lunch.” Before she could protest further, he reached for her hand and gently pulled her up from her chair.
“Dylan!” Ava hissed, trying to pull free from his grasp. “I told you I’m busy. Let me finish my work!”
But Dylan didn’t relent. His grip was gentle yet unyielding as he guided her toward the door. Just as they were about to step out, his phone buzzed, halting him mid-stride. Fishing the phone out of his pocket, Dylan glanced at the screen, his expression shifting in an instant. The confidence and warmth in his demeanor wavered, replaced by something more serious.
Ava caught the change and frowned, curiosity prickling at her. “What is it?”
“It’s my aunt,” he said quietly to Ava. “I need to take this call.”
Ava stayed silent, watching him, sensing the seriousness of the situation.
He answered the call, his tone calculative. “Hello, Aunt!”
“I am home,” a solemn voice came out of the phone. “Come quickly. I have things to discuss with you.”
“Uh…” Dylan’s gaze flickered briefly toward Ava before he replied, “Alright. I’m coming.”
He ended the call and slipped the phone back into his pocket. “I need to go to the mansion. My aunt is there.”
Ava stepped back. “Then go.”
“You are coming with me.”
“No. I’m not going.” Ava shook her head. “She will be upset to see me.”
Lydia, Dylan’s aunt, was no one she wanted to face. The woman was just as harsh as Erica, always ready to belittle her, finding ways to make her feel insignificant. Ava had always avoided her in the past, and that wasn’t about to change now.
“Ava, you are my wife,” Dylan insisted. “She has to accept the reality.”
“I don’t care about her acceptance,” she snapped, taking another step back. “I won’t meet her.”
Dylan sighed in defeat. “Alright,” he relented, his voice softer now. “I won’t force you. Finish your work, then.” He left.
Dylan’s mood darkened as he drove to the mansion. He didn’t like the fact that Lydia had returned without prior information. He knew what was coming—she would pressure him to bring Erica back, and he had no intention of giving in this time.
It didn’t take long for him to arrive at the mansion. His steps were firm and resolute as he entered the mansion, ready to face whatever demands she had in store.
As he walked into the grand entrance, he saw Lydia sitting beside Lilianna, and his eyes narrowed in surprise. He hadn’t expected to find his sister here.
“Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be at the hospital?”
Before Lilianna could answer, Lydia’s voice cut in. “Such an ungrateful brat! You didn’t even greet me properly, but you’re worried about her? She is fine now, and I brought her home.”
Dylan’s brows furrowed as he turned his attention to Lydia, his frustration evident. “Lilianna is still weak. The doctors specifically said she needed rest for a few days. Why bring her back now?”
“I’m here to take care of her,” she said with authority. “I’ve been looking after you since you were children. I’m still strong enough to care for her.”

Dylan clenched his jaw, his frustration threatening to spill over. He wasn’t in the mood to indulge her. “Why did you come back all of a sudden?”
Lydia’s face twisted in fury. “Why? You have the nerve to ask that!” Her voice grew louder. “You fired Erica and sent her away from the city—just because of that woman! Have you forgotten who she is? Didn’t you say you married her just to get back at Thomas? Have you changed your mind now? Have you developed feelings for her?”
Dylan’s patience frayed at her words. “This is none of your concern anymore.” His response was sharp. “I told you to stay out of my affairs. Lilianna and I are adults now. We can make our own decisions. You should focus on yourself and your daughter.”
“What did you say?” Lydia’s face darkened with disbelief and anger. “You’re breaking ties with me?”
“Aunt!” Lilianna chimed in. “He doesn’t mean it like that. He is just saying that he wants to make his own choices. You shouldn’t interfere.”
“I didn’t allow you to speak,” Lydia snapped. “Go to your room and rest.”
But Lilianna didn’t budge. She moved toward Dylan, gently taking his hand in hers. “I’m with my brother. I stand by whatever decision he makes. If he wants to forget the past and move forward with Ava, I’ll support him.”
Her gaze softened the next moment, her voice pleading with sincerity. “It’s been over a decade since the accident. How much longer are you going to hold onto this grudge against the Williams? Ava had nothing to do with it—she is innocent.”
“She is not innocent!” Lydia’s fury erupted in a loud, sharp bark. “Thomas and her daughter can’t be innocent.” Her words cut through the room like a knife. “Thomas killed my brother and his wife. I’ll never forgive him, and I won’t let you forget it either.”
The hatred in her eyes shone brighter than ever. “You lost your parents because of him. You were almost thrown out of the house by your other relatives. I was the one who stood by your side when everyone else turned their back on you. I took care of you and ran the business single-handedly. Without me, Ace Group would have crumbled a long time ago.”
With each word, Lydia’s anger grew, her hands trembling as she pointed accusingly at Dylan and Lilianna. “I sacrificed everything for you. I gave up my marriage, and my own happiness, just to raise you both. I loved you both as much as I loved my Erica. And now…” Her eyes flashed with betrayal. “Now, when you’ve both grown up, you forget all that. You forget what Thomas did!”
“We haven’t forgotten your kindness,” Lilianna said with a hint of sarcasm in her tone. “We are grateful for all you’ve done for us over the years. But that doesn’t mean we owe you complete control over our lives. You need to know where to draw the line.”
Lilianna’s gaze never wavered. “And let me remind you… Our parents’ deaths were an accident. That has nothing to do with Mr. Williams.”
