Chapter 134: They lied to you
“What the hell is going on?” Dylan barked, fury simmering beneath his words. “When did this happen?”
“I received the information a couple of hours ago,” Justin replied, the words tumbling out of his mouth. “But at the time, I was waiting for that man and couldn’t call you.” After a moment of pause, he added grimly, “She didn’t escape alone—she fled with a group of inmates.”
“Fuck!” Dylan grumbled, his mouth twisting in rage. “Find her. She can come to hurt Ava. Before that, capture her.”
“Don’t worry, sir. We’re already on it, sir. The police are conducting a full-scale manhunt. Gianna won’t be able to hide for long.”
“Better you keep your word, Justin,” Dylan hissed dangerously before ending the call. He remained standing, his body taut with tension. He ran a hand through his hair, his mind a storm of worry and rage.
“Gianna,” he hissed. “I’ll kill you this time if you get near Ava.”
The next day…
Ava smiled as she saw Lilianna’s name flashing on the screen. It was a welcome distraction.
“Good afternoon, Ava,” Lilianna’s cheerful voice filled her ear as soon as she answered the call. “I hope I am not disturbing you at work.”
“No, you aren’t.” Ava leaned back in her chair, relaxing her strained muscles. “You can call me any time you want.”
Lilianna’s laughter echoed through the line. “Thank you. By the way, how did the shopping go?”
Ava’s mind briefly drifted back to the chaos outside the boutique. The images of the fight between Dylan and the thug lingered in her mind. A shiver ran down her spine as she thought she would have been kidnapped if Dylan hadn’t interfered.
“Did you drain his wallet?” Lilianna’s voice snapped her out of her trance.
Ava forced a smile, pushing the unsettling thoughts aside. “Yes… He bought me a lot of dresses. Now I’m struggling to fit them into the wardrobe. There is no space, and I don’t know where to put them all.”
She let out a frustrated sigh as she thought about the shopping bags stacked up in the settee in the corner of the bedroom.
Lilianna, on the other end, couldn’t contain her excitement. “That’s not a problem at all! Ask Dylan to get you a new wardrobe.”
Ava rolled her eyes. “He already said that.”
Lilianna chuckled. “Well, it’s a good thing, then. Anyway, I’ll help you arrange your clothes. When are you going home? I’d like to come visit.”
“Are you coming to see us?” Ava asked, her voice rising slightly in surprise.
Lilianna teased back, “Why? Don’t you want me to visit?”
“Nonsense. I’m just excited. You can come anytime. We’ll have dinner together.”
“I’d love that,” Lilianna responded with genuine excitement. “I’ll see you soon then.”
Lilianna ended the call, but her smile quickly faded. There was something urgent on her mind. She had already made up her mind to go find Dylan first. She needed to talk to him about Erica’s gambling habit.
“I couldn’t let Lydia force Dylan to bring Erica back. I have to warn him.”
She grabbed her bag and walked out of her room. Her steps faltered as she saw Lydia in the hall sipping coffee.
“Where are you going at this hour?” Lydia asked smoothly, her tone almost too casual. She set her coffee cup down with exaggerated grace, her eyes turning to Lilianna. “Come sit with me. I want to know how your life is going with your surgeon husband.”
“I’m going to see Dylan and Ava.”
Lydia’s lips curled into a knowing smile. “Dylan and Ava… Do you really think they’re still happily married?”
Lilianna scowled at her. “What do you mean?”

“Oh, Lilianna,” Lydia scoffed. “Why are you so naive? They lied to you, and you just believed them. They’re already divorced.”
The words hit Lilianna like a slap. She blinked, trying to process what Lydia had just said. “No… This can’t be true,” she snapped, shaking her head in disbelief.
Lydia, seeming almost amused by Lilianna’s reaction, casually picked up a file from the table and waved it in the air. “This is the copy of their divorce agreement. They’ve already signed it, and now they’re just waiting for the cooling-off period. If you don’t believe me, you can always confirm it with their lawyer.” She slammed the file down on the table.
Lilianna’s hands trembled as she picked up the file, her heart racing as she flipped it open. The words on the divorce agreement blurred before her eyes. Her gaze froze as she saw Ava and Dylan’s names, clearly signed, with the official stamps and signatures of lawyers. A chill ran down her spine.
“No, this can’t be true.” She had sensed tension between them, sure, but she never imagined it would come to this. Her mind refused to accept it. “They like each other.”
“Come on, Lilianna. They fooled you. Are you still denying the fact?” Lydia’s voice cut through the air like a sharp blade. “I knew it. Dylan would never disappoint me. He has always been obedient, and he can’t forget the pain Thomas has given to him, to this family. He ultimately got rid of that enemy’s daughter. And I am sure he has something in his mind by still keeping Ava by his side. Maybe he is planning to hurt that father and daughter even more.”
Lilianna felt the blood rush to her head, her thoughts swirling with confusion and disbelief. She closed the file with a thud, her expression tightening. “This is fake, isn’t it? Why won’t you leave them alone? Let them live their lives in peace.”
Lydia’s smile vanished and her relaxed posture stiffened. “Why would I fake the documents? If you still don’t believe it, go and ask them. You’re about to meet them, aren’t you? You’ll see the truth for yourself.”
“Fine,” Lilianna grumbled through her gritted teeth. “I’ll find out for myself.” She threw the file down onto the table and stormed out of the room, her heart pounding.
Even though she refused to believe it, doubts lingered in her mind. What if Dylan and Ava had actually divorced?
“I’ll get the truth,” Lilianna muttered under her breath, her hands gripping the car keys. She needed answers — whether they were what she wanted to hear or not.
Just as she hopped into the car and ignited the engine, her phone rang, pulling her out of her thoughts. She glanced at the screen and saw Henry’s name.
