Chapter 152: She is mine.
Ethan’s chest heaved, rage and humiliation twisting his features into a stormy scowl. His fists trembled at his sides. “You are still in love with Dylan,” he muttered disdainfully. “I can see it even though you don’t accept it.”
The thought hit him like a dagger, cutting deep into the fragile hopes he had held onto for so long. All those years by her side, the countless moments of support and care—it had all meant nothing. Ava still chose Dylan over him.
“What does he have that I don’t?” Ethan growled. “That arrogant, insufferable man who does nothing but hurt and belittle you. And yet… you love him.” He slammed his fist against the table, the sound reverberating through the room. “Why can’t you see me? Why can’t you see my love?”
His anger and jealousy hijacked his intelligence. The pain of rejection morphed into something darker, something vengeful. “Since you refuse to see my sincerity, then don’t blame me for what comes next.”
He snatched his phone off the table. His fingers moved swiftly, scrolling through the contact list until he landed on a name he had recently added. A mixture of resolve and desperation hardened his expression as he dialed the number.
The line connected after a few rings, a voice on the other end greeting him.
“I’m ready,” Ethan said unwaveringly. “I’ll join hands with you. Let’s meet.”
A grim determination settled over him. This wasn’t about love anymore—it was about proving his worth, no matter the cost.
Outside the house…
Ava climbed into her car, her bag sliding onto the passenger seat. Just as she reached for the ignition, her phone buzzed. Nicholas’s name flashed on the screen.
She answered the call instantly.
“Good morning!” Nicholas’s voice carried its usual upbeat energy. “Just wanted to remind you about the meeting. The scriptwriters are already here. Are you coming?”
Ava groaned inwardly, glancing at the time on her dashboard. “Yes, yes, I’m on my way,” she replied, feigning composure as she turned the key in the ignition.
“Alright, see you soon,” Nicholas said, and the call ended.
“Shit,” she muttered. “I am already late.”
With a swift movement, she shifted the gear and pressed the accelerator. The car surged forward as she navigated toward the main road.
In less than half an hour, Ava pulled up to her destination. The towering glass building loomed above her, gleaming in the morning sunlight. She stepped through the revolving doors and immediately spotted Alex waiting for her near the reception desk.
“Good morning, ma’am,” Alex greeted with a polite nod. “This way, please.”
He guided her to a sleek, private elevator. The doors slid shut, and the elevator hummed softly as it whisked them to the top floor.
When the doors opened with a quiet chime, Ava was met with Nicholas’s beaming face. His smile was warm and genuine, lighting up his features as their eyes met.
“Welcome to my office again,” he said warmly.
“I’m sorry,” she said, flashing an apologetic smile. “I’m a bit late.”
“No problem,” Nicholas reassured her easily. “The meeting hasn’t started yet.” With a gesture, he motioned for her to follow him. “Everyone is in the conference hall.”
Ava nodded, stepping alongside him, her heart lifting slightly at his effortless hospitality. She couldn’t help but recall her first visit to his office—how he had sent his assistant to greet her then. This time, too, his attention made her feel appreciated.
Unable to hold back her curiosity, she asked, “Why do you always welcome me in such a grand manner? Do you treat everyone this way?”
Nicholas paused mid-step, turning to face her. “I try to be polite and cordial with everyone, but you’re special. And you know it.”
Ava froze, caught off guard by his words. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she smiled awkwardly, unsure how to respond.
Seeing the soft flush on Ava’s cheeks, Nicholas felt a sudden flutter in his chest. Instinctively, his hand moved to rest over his heart.
But Ava misinterpreted the gesture. Her eyes widened in alarm. “Are you okay?” She stepped closer to him. “Are you having chest pain? Where’s your medicine?” The questions spilled out in rapid succession.

Nicholas blinked, momentarily stunned by her reaction, before a tender smile curved his lips. “Relax, I’m fine.” He was contented to see the worry in her eyes exclusively for him.
“Are you sure?” Still, her eyes searched his face, skeptical. “Then why are you holding your chest like that?”
Nicholas couldn’t resist the chance to tease her. His smile turned playful as he leaned in slightly. “Do you really want to know why?” he asked, his tone dropping to a murmur. Before she could answer, he added, “Because you look beautiful.”
A fresh wave of warmth rose to her cheeks. Caught off guard, she turned her head to the side, trying to hide her flustered expression. “Shall we head to the meeting?”
Nicholas let out a soft sigh, both amused and a little wistful. “Of course.”
With a graceful gesture, he motioned her forward, and together they walked toward the conference hall.

The news of Ava’s visit to Nicholas’s office reached Dylan swiftly, stirring a storm of emotions within him.
“According to our sources, she had a meeting with several scriptwriters,” Justin reported cautiously. “One of our informants managed to speak with one of the writers. She mentioned working on a short drama project with Nicholas.”
Dylan’s brows furrowed, his expression darkening. “Really?”
Justin nodded. “Yes. Short dramas are becoming increasingly popular in the entertainment industry.”
“And you’re only telling me now?” Dylan snapped with irritation. “Ava has already partnered with Nicholas, and you couldn’t find this out sooner? Your informants are clearly losing their edge.”
“I…” Justin wanted to protest but swallowed his words. “I am sorry.” He hung his head down. “I’ll be more vigilant.”
Dylan raised a hand, silencing him. His features softened slightly, shifting into a contemplative expression. “You said she had a meeting with scriptwriters, right?” His eyes gleamed with calculated intent. “Contact Scott. I want an urgent meeting with him.”
Justin blinked, caught off guard. ‘Scott? The top director in the industry? Why does he want to have a meeting with that man? Is he planning to start another business venture to counter Nicholas?’ He couldn’t help but wonder.
When he didn’t get any response from Justin, Dylan shot a stern glare at him. “Any question?”
“No,” Justin replied quickly, shaking his head. “I’ll arrange it right away.” Without another word, he left the office.
Left alone, Dylan leaned back in his chair, a wry smile tugging at his lips. “Nicholas,” he muttered. “You’re trying to worm your way into Ava’s life, helping her chase her dreams. But you’ve forgotten one thing. She is mine. My woman. And I’ll crush every attempt you make to get close to her. Ava doesn’t need you—she has me, and I’ll fulfill all her desires myself.”
