Lilianna’s eyes lit up with quiet pride.
“The dean of City Hospital is a close friend of Henry’s.
He asked Henry to look after some critical patients.
Henry couldn’t refuse.” “I don’t know, but I don’t like it.” Lydia shrugged dismissively, a trace of disdain in her voice.
“He knows his wife is pregnant.
Shouldn’t he give you more time and attention?
Instead, he is busy with others while leaving you alone at home.” Lydia deliberately said those provocative words to stir doubt in Lilianna’s heart, designed to create problems in their peaceful life.
“I understand Henry is one of the best doctors in the country,” she added, her voice deceptively calm, “but he should think about his own home first, don’t you think?” Her words struck a chord in Lilianna’s heart.
Pregnancy had made her more vulnerable to her emotions, and though she had always reassured herself that Henry’s devotion to his job was part of what she admired about him, the loneliness she felt was undeniable.
Lydia’s pointed remarks had ignited a spark of doubt and disappointment that she could no longer suppress.
Lydia noticed the subtle shift in Lilianna’s expression-the faint quiver of her lips, the way her gaze dropped momentarily.
A sly satisfaction bloomed within her as she observed her niece’s growing unease.
‘You disobeyed me.
Now you see, you are suffering,’ she murmured to herself, But she soon made a worried look, her tone softening in the next words.
“Lilianna, you can’t afford to be careless right now.
If you’ve been managing everything alone, why didn’t you call me?
Come back to the mansion.
You shouldn’t be here by yourself.
When Henry finishes his work at the hospital, he can take you home.
But for now, let me take care of you.
I can’t bear to see you like this.” Lilianna blinked back the tears that threatened to fall, forcing a smile onto her face despite the lump in her throat.
“Thank you for your concern, Aunt.
But I’m fine, really.
Henry takes good care of me.
His work at the hospital is temporary.
Once it’s over, we’ll leave together.
Please don’t worry.” “How can I not worry?” Lydia countered.
“You and Dylan are like my own children.

I insist-come with me.
Let me look after you until everything settles down.” The next minute, her expression brightened dramatically, a gleam of excitement lighting her eyes.
“Besides, Erica is returning.
Dylan has forgiven her and allowed her to come back.
She’ll be here soon.” “What?” Lilianna exclaimed.
“Dylan€¦forgave Erica!” A wave of shock washed over her, making her feel as though the ground beneath her feet had shifted.
Her thoughts raced.
‘How could Dylan forgive Erica so easily?
Has he forgotten everything she did?’ “She will be thrilled to see you,” Lydia chirped.
“Let’s go.
I’ll help you pack your bag.” Lilianna fought to suppress her inner turmoil.
“No, Aunt€¦I want to stay here,” she said calmly.
“I promise, Henry, and I will visit you soon.” Lydia didn’t really want to take Lilianna to the mansion.
She had come there to inform her about Erica’s return.
Now that her purpose was served, she didn’t have a reason to stay there.
“Are you sure?” she asked, pretending to be worried.
“Yes, I am sure,” Lilianna replied unwaveringly.
“Then what I can say?
Just ensure that you take care of yourself.
I’ll leave first.” Just as Lydia picked up her bag to leave, her phone beeped.
She unlocked the screen and saw a series of incriminated photographs of Ava and Nicholas.
Her heart raced with excitement as she swiped through the gallery.
‘This is gold,’ she thought, her mind already spinning with the possibilities.
‘The scandal of the season.
I can use this to my advantage.’ Outwardly, however, she gasped with faux shock.
“What on earth is happening?” Lilianna sensed something wasn’t right when she noticed the deep scowl on her face.
“What is going on?” “I can’t believe how shameless she has become,” Lydia snorted, her scorn sharp and cutting.
“Her divorce with Dylan isn’t even finalized, and she is already parading around with another man.
If she has no shame for herself, she should at least consider the Brooks’ reputation.” “What are you talking about?” Lilianna pressed, unable to make sense of her words.
“See for yourself,” Lydia hissed, thrusting her phone toward Lilianna.
“Ava, that little snake, is now cozying up to Nicholas Baker-an illegitimate son of the Bakers.” Lilianna’s eyes widened as she took the phone and stared at the images-Ava and Nicholas together at the beach.
Her thoughts reeled.
‘Ava€¦with Nicholas Baker?’ “This wench,” Lydia spat.
“She is just as treacherous as her father.
Thomas killed my brother, and now his daughter is cavorting with our family’s sworn enemy.
She is determined to bring us down.
Well, she won’t get away with it-she needs to be exposed.” Lilianna’s heart clenched painfully at Lydia’s harsh words.
While the photos seemed damning, Lilianna couldn’t shake the belief that Ava wasn’t entirely at fault.
Since childhood, she had noticed how much Ava loved Dylan.
But Dylan was cold and indifferent to Ava.
His neglect, his inability to truly value her, had pushed Ava to seek comfort elsewhere.
Still, her heart ached for Dylan.
Recently, she had seen his efforts to mend the fractures in their relationship.
He had been trying-maybe too late, but he had been trying.
But one question gnawed at her mind: If Dylan was truly trying to repair things with Ava, why had he allowed Erica to come back into their lives?
Her thoughts were a storm of conflict-sympathy for Ava, heartache for Dylan, and frustration at the entire situation.
“I’ll make sure Dylan distances himself from this woman.” Lydia’s words cut through the quiet, snapping Lilianna out of her tumultuous thoughts.
“She is a jinx-a stain on our family’s reputation.
Her father has already brought enough disaster to the Brooks.
We can’t let this woman destroy us further.
Dylan needs to sever all ties with her.
Let him come back from the business trip.
I’ll talk to him.” Lilianna didn’t respond, knowing that arguing would be pointless.
But she decided to get to the bottom of it.
Handing the phone back to Lydia, she said, “Aunt, I’m feeling a bit tired.
I think I’ll go rest now.” She stood up and strode to her bedroom.
Lydia’s lips curled into a sly grin.
“You wanted to patch up things between them.
Now, you’ll be the one to make sure Dylan keeps his distance from Ava.” With confidence in her steps, she walked out of the house.
