My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 181
Chapter 181: Jodie escaped.
Chapter 181: Jodie escaped.
Ever since Jodie had left the office, she had been paranoid and hadn’t dared to return to her rented apartment, knowing Dylan’s men could be waiting to pounce.
Contacting Erica wasn’t an option either.
That woman was more dangerous than Dylan.
Erica wouldn’t hesitate to silence her permanently.
Jodie had holed up at a friend’s place, planning to escape in the late hours of the night.
But what she didn’t know was that Justin and his team had been watching her every move from the shadows.
In a car parked discreetly down the street, Justin’s gaze was fixed on the towering apartment building.
He picked up his phone and called Dylan.
The line connected after a few rings.
“Jodie is hiding at her friend’s place,” Justin reported, his tone grim.
“We’re outside the building.
Do you want us to go in and grab her?” There was a moment of silence before Dylan’s calm voice came through.
“No.
Entering might draw unwanted attention, and I’m not involving the cops yet.
Stay put.
Watch her closely.
She’ll make a move sooner or later.” “I get it, sir.” Ending the call, Justin turned to the man beside him.
“Wait here,” he instructed.
“The moment she comes out, capture her.
Stay alert and call me if you need anything.” The man in the black suit nodded and jumped out of the car, slipping into the darkness.
Justin glanced at the building one last time before driving away.
Hours passed, and the streets grew quiet.
Around midnight, Jodie finally made her move.
Dressed in dark clothing with a hoodie pulled low over her face, she slipped out of the building, her movements cautious.
She glanced around the dimly lit parking lot, her gaze scanning to check if anyone was following her.
She didn’t see anyone.
Unbeknownst to her, a man lingered in the shadows behind a parked car, ready to take action.
Reaching her car, Jodie quickly pulled out her keys, her fingers trembling slightly as she unlocked the door.

Just then, a strong hand clamped over her mouth from behind.
Her heart pounded wildly, terror seizing her.
She struggled, her muffled cries going unheard in the empty lot.
Before she could resist further, a sharp prick pierced her neck.
A numbing sensation spread through her body, and her vision blurred as unconsciousness claimed her.
The man dragged her into his car and shoved her.
“Hey!
Stop right there!” a commanding voice rang out from behind.
The masked man froze for a split second before turning around, his eyes narrowing dangerously beneath the dark hood.
His grip on Jodie’s limp body tightened as he sized up the figure in a sharp black suit, aiming a gun straight at him.
“Where do you think you’re taking her?” the suited man demanded.
“Put her down, now!” But the masked man was silent, his stance tense but controlled.
Then, with a swift and fluid motion, he pulled out a hidden knife and hurled it at his opponent.
The blade struck him, embedding itself deeply in his thigh.
“Argh!” The suited man groaned in pain, collapsing to one knee as he clutched at his injury.
Blood pooled rapidly around the wound, soaking through his tailored pants.
The masked man shoved Jodie inside the backseat and slammed the door shut.
He slipped into the driver’s seat, started the engine, and sped off.
The suited man, gasping and grimacing, struggled to rise, but he couldn’t.
He helplessly looked at the car disappearing into the darkness.
Breathing heavily, he pulled out his phone with a shaky hand and dialed a number.
“Hello,” he panted, wincing with every breath.
“I lost her.
Someone else took Jodie€¦he was fast and armed.
I couldn’t stop him.” On the other end, Dylan paced back and forth in his study as he waited for Justin’s call.
His restless movements betrayed his impatience.
The phone finally buzzed, and he snatched it up.
“What’s the update?” “The guard is injured,” Justin added.
“He has been rushed to the hospital.” “Damn it!” Dylan growled, slamming a fist onto the desk.
His chest heaved as anger bubbled to the surface.
“The guard managed to note the license plate number of the car, but the man who took her was wearing a mask.
He couldn’t see his face.” Dylan’s teeth ground together as he let out a low growl, “Find her.
I don’t care what it takes.
Bring her to me!” “We’re on it,” Justin assured.
“We’ve already started analyzing the surveillance footage from the building, and the team is tracing the car.
I’ll call as soon as we get an update.” Dylan ended the call abruptly, tossing the phone onto his desk with a forceful clatter.
He stood still for a moment, his hands braced on the edge of the desk, his head hanging low as he fought to contain the storm of emotions raging within him.
With a growl of frustration, he swept the files scattered across the desk.
“Useless,” he hissed.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Jodie groaned softly as her eyelids fluttered open, her head pounding.
The chill of the floor seeped through her clothes, sending a shiver down her spine.
She shifted, attempting to sit up, but the coarse rope biting into her wrists and ankles stopped her.
Her heart raced as she realized her predicament.
Panic surged like wildfire, her breaths coming in sharp, shallow gasps.
Her eyes darted around the dimly lit room.
The walls were stained with time, the corners packed with thick cobwebs.
Scattered around were dusty, empty cartons.
The air was stale, carrying the faint scent of mold and abandonment.
‘Where am I?’ she thought, her breathing quickening.
‘Who has kidnapped me?’ Her chest tightened.
One name clawed its way to the forefront of her mind €“ Dylan Brooks.
A wave of dread washed over her as she remembered Dylan ordering to find out who had posted those photos.
“It’s him,” she mumbled, tears filling her eyes.
“He has found me.
He’ll kill me for what I did.
I need to get out of here.” She struggled against her bindings, the ropes cutting into her skin, but it was no use.
She looked around frantically, searching for a way to get out of there.
There was no sign of a window or another escape route.
The only way out was through the door, which was closed.
Jodie was sure the guards were stationed outside.
There was no way she could leave this place.
“What am I going to do?” she choked out, trembling with fear.
Regret gnawed at her heart.
“I shouldn’t have done it.
I shouldn’t have gotten involved.” In the meantime, she heard footsteps outside the room.
Her sobs halted mid-breath, and her entire body tensed.
She pressed herself into the corner.
Her eyes locked on the door, her heart pounding like a drumbeat in her chest.
The door flew open and a figure entered.
Jodie’s blood ran cold as she struggled to make sense of what she saw.
“It’s you!” she mumbled in confusion and disbelief.
She had prepared herself for Dylan, convinced he was the one behind her abduction.
But standing before her was Erica.
