My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 184
Chapter 184: Another rumor Chapter 184: Another rumor The distraction left Dylan grimacing with frustration.
He looked at the phone and saw Justin’s number flashing persistently on the screen.
But he hesitated to answer the call.
He wanted to explain Ava first.
The rest could wait.
Ignoring the phone call, he held her shoulders.
“Listen to me, Ava€¦” “Your phone is ringing,” she said, silencing him.
“Maybe it’s urgent.
Answer the phone first.” He exhaled heavily, nodding in reluctant agreement.
“Fine,” he muttered.
“But this conversation isn’t over.” He swiped the screen and answered the call.
“What is it?” he asked sharply, his tone betraying his annoyance.
Justin’s frantic voice crackled on the other end.
“There is a big issue, Mr.
Brooks.
It would be best if you came back immediately.
Things are spiraling out of control here.” “What exactly is happening there?” Dylan snapped, a sense of restlessness creeping into his voice.
Justin hesitated momentarily before speaking, “Someone has spread a rumor that the company’s secrets have been leaked to the Bakers.
And€¦” He trailed off.
“And what?” Dylan pressed.
“And everyone suspects that it’s Madam Ava’s doing,” Justin added.
“Now €“ the employees refused to work.
They are demanding her resignation.” “What?” Dylan exploded, his mouth twisting in annoyance.
“Who dares to accuse her of something so absurd?” “Things are not good here,” Justin said, his worry palpable in his tone.
“The situation is escalating quickly.
If we don’t address this soon, it could have serious consequences for the company.” “I’m coming,” Dylan said curtly, ending the call without waiting for a response.
As he turned back to Ava, her questioning gaze met his.
“What’s going on?” Ava asked curiously.
“There is trouble at the office,” Dylan narrated what he had just learned.
“Someone has spread rumors that our secrets were leaked to the Bakers.

And they’re blaming you for it.” Ava froze in her place, feeling helpless and aggrieved at the same time.
Her mouth opened slightly before she snapped it shut, “They are blaming me?” “I won’t let this slide.
I’ll handle it.” “I knew it was coming.” A wave of bitterness crossed her face.
“The troublemaker is back, and this is just the beginning.
How can I expect everything will go smoothly?” Her eyes burned with disdain as she looked at him.
“You know who is behind this, Dylan.
But, of course, you won’t do anything about it.” Ava spun on her heel and marched out of the private room.
“Shit!” Dylan muttered, grinding his teeth.
Dylan cursed under his breath, his frustration boiling over.
He wanted to explain, to reassure her that he had a plan, but the urgency at the office couldn’t be ignored.
He had to deal with the issues at the company first and then he would talk to her.
“Ava, wait!” he called, rushing after her.
She didn’t look back, her pace quick and deliberate as she walked out of the restaurant.
“Wait a moment.” Dylan grabbed her wrist, pulling her to a halt.
“Give me some time.
I’ll fix everything.” Ava turned, her glare sharp and unyielding.
“I don’t need you to fight my battles,” she snapped defiantly, but the hurt behind her words was unmistakable.
She jerked her hand free.
Before Dylan could say another word, she climbed into her car, slammed the door, and sped off, leaving him standing there, frustrated and helpless.
“Damn€¦” he muttered, throwing his hand in the air.
He exhaled sharply, trying to regain his composure.
“I’ll explain, Ava.
But first, I have to deal with this chaos at the office.” Sliding into the driver’s seat, Dylan started the engine and pulled the car onto the road.
~~~~~~~~~~ When Ava and Dylan arrived at the office, the sight that greeted them was startling.
A crowd of employees stood gathered at the entrance, holding placards with bold, accusatory messages demanding Ava’s resignation.
Ava froze in place, her chest tightening as a sinking feeling settled in her stomach.
Dylan was by her side in an instant.
“Are you okay?” he asked, scanning her pale face.
Ava was still in a daze.
She had thought the storm had passed, that Nicholas’s press conference had cleared everything up.
But here they were again, their collective hostility palpable.
“Why is this happening?” “I’m here with you,” Dylan assured her.
He turned his attention to the throng, his presence commanding.
“What’s going on here?” he demanded sharply.
“Go back to your workstations.
Stop wasting time here.” “We won’t work until the traitor is fired!” someone shouted from the crowd.
“Yes, fire her!
Or we’ll all resign!” the employees chanted in unison.
Ava’s confidence wavered, her knees trembling.
She took an unconscious step back, overwhelmed by the sheer intensity of their hostility.
Dylan quickly wrapped an arm around her shoulders, steadying her.
“Stay strong,” he murmured.
“I’ve got this.
Just trust me.” In the meantime, Justin approached them, his face grave.
“This is getting out of hand.
If they all resign, the company won’t survive.
I don’t know what to do.” Before Dylan could respond, Ava spoke up.
“If my resignation can stop this, then I’ll resign.
It’s for the best.” “No, you are not quitting like this,” Dylan protested.
“But Dylan-” “No,” he cut her off.
“If you walk away now, they’ll believe you’re guilty, and that’s not the truth.
You’ve done nothing wrong, and I won’t let you leave under these circumstances.
Not like this.” The determination in his voice was unwavering, and Ava found herself staring at him, conflicted.
Dylan turned back to face the crowd, his stance resolute.
“I will not tolerate baseless accusations against one of the most capable people in this company.
If anyone here has solid evidence, come forward.
Otherwise, I expect everyone back at their desks immediately.” Ava let out a bitter snort with frustration and despair.
“What’s the point of proving my innocence?
Even if I clear my name, it won’t change anything.
There will always be people who dislike me, who slander me, who find new ways to attack me.
This cycle will never end as long as I stay here.” Her words were sharp, but Dylan could feel the underlying pain.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he said firmly.
“I’m the boss, and without my authorization, no one can force you to leave this company.
Have faith in me-I’ll handle this.” He turned his attention to Justin.
“Have you tracked the source of the false accusations?” “It all started with an email-an anonymous one-that was circulated across the company.
The security team is investigating it, and they’re tracking the IP address.
We should have answers soon.” “Tell them to speed up the process,” Dylan hissed.
“I want results now.” Justin nodded.
“Understood, sir.
I’ll push them.
But what will we do with these people?” He hesitantly looked at the throng gathered there, shouting and demanding Ava’s resignation.
“If this gets out, the media will pounce on it.
The chaos could escalate beyond our control.
We need to act fast.”
