My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 192
Chapter 192: The desperation Chapter 192: The desperation At the hospital€¦ Lydia rushed to her car, her hands trembling as she fumbled with the key fob.
“Stop right there!” a sharp voice rang out, halting her movements.
Startled, she flinched, the key slipping from her fingers and clattering to the ground.
She spun around to see Ethan striding toward her, his expression tight with fury.
“You told me he’d only fall sick,” Ethan hissed through gritted teeth, stopping in front of her.
“But he had a heart attack.
You tricked me!” His glare was sharp enough to cut through her core.
Lydia’s face darkened, her anger igniting like a match struck too close to gasoline.
“Lower your voice,” she snapped.
“This is not the place to talk.
Come with me.” “I’m not going anywhere with you!” Ethan shot back.
“You lied to me.
Because of you, Mr.
Williams’ life is at risk.
You’re nothing but a manipulative liar.
I should never have trusted you!” “I didn’t lie€¦ I told you exactly what that drug could do.
Don’t pin this all on me.” Ethan grimaced, disgust and regret flashing across his face.
“My biggest mistake was believing you.
I’ve done enough damage to the Williams family.
No more.
I’m done working with you, and I’ll do everything I can to stop you from hurting them again.” A slow, mocking smile crept across Lydia’s lips.
“Oh, Ethan, you really think it’s that easy to walk away from me?” A glint of menace flickered in her eyes.
“Before you decide anything, just hear this out.” She unlocked her phone and played a recording.
Ethan’s pupils dilated in horror as the recording of his voice agreeing to Lydia’s scheme played out in crisp, undeniable clarity.
His chest tightened, and his face turned bleak as he realized he was badly trapped.
“You€¦ you recorded our conversation,” he stammered, his voice laced with disbelief and betrayal.
“Of course, I did.
I knew this day would come when your conscience would rebel against me.
This recording is my insurance, a little reminder to keep you in line.” Lydia leaned slightly over him, her tone dropping to a whisper.
“And this isn’t the only ace up my sleeve.

I’ve been watching you.
If you ever think of betraying me, I’ll destroy that righteous image you’ve worked so hard to maintain.
And Ava?
She’ll despise you for breaking her trust and hurting her father.” She smirked.
“So be smart and follow my instructions.” Ethan felt a gust of chilly wind whooshing over his back, goosebumps pricking his skin.
“How could you€¦ How could you do this?” he croaked, his legs wavering beneath him.
Lydia slipped her phone back into her bag.
“It’s nothing personal, Ethan.
Just a precaution.
You see, loyalty is such a fleeting thing.
These recordings will remain safe as long as you do as I say.
But cross me, and everything you hold dear-your reputation, your future with Ava-will crumble.
She’ll never want to see your face again.” The mere thought of Ava turning her back on him sent a wave of nausea rolling through Ethan.
Cold sweat dripped from his temples, his body recoiling from the weight of her words.
“Be wise,” she advised.
“You know what needs to be done.
Thomas must die.
Only then will you gain full control-of the company and of Ava’s life.
Without her father, she’ll be lost, and vulnerable.
That’s when you can swoop in and show her how much you care about her.” Her words twisted in Ethan’s mind like a poisonous fog.
He stood frozen, the ground beneath him feeling like it was caving in.
Ethan knew he was trapped, and there was no way out.
But he hesitated to follow her instructions.
“Don’t play games with me,” he growled.
“If you try to hurt Ava, I won’t spare you.” “Ava isn’t my target.
My issue is with Thomas.
Once he is gone, my vengeance will be complete.” But her assurance did little to ease Ethan’s doubts.
His narrowed eyes scanned her face.
“But there is one more thing-you need to make Ava leave Dylan,” she added.
“She is alone there.
Go and stay by her side.
Make sure Dr.
Fisher does the surgery on Thomas, and things will be in our favor.” She smirked meaningfully.
Ethan’s suspicion deepened, her words stirring unease in his chest.
The way she mentioned Dr.
Fisher made his stomach churn.
“What are you getting at?
Are you working with that doctor?” “You ask too many questions,” she hissed coldly.
“Instead of standing here interrogating me, go to Ava.
Be the shoulder she leans on.” Though her words were cryptic, Ethan couldn’t ignore the opportunity she dangled before him.
This was his chance to get close to Ava and become the sole person she could rely on.
“Keep your word and stay away from Ava.” With one last glare, he strode toward the hospital.
Lydia watched him go, a mocking chuckle escaping her lips.
“Oh, don’t worry, Ethan,” she murmured, a dark glint in her eyes.
“As long as you keep her away from Dylan, I won’t have to touch her.
But cross me, and you’ll regret it.” ~~~~~~~~~~~ Henry’s heart pounded as he watched the men disappear, leaving him bound and helpless.
His eyes darted toward the knife lying just out of reach.
Desperation clawed at him.
He tried to bend down to reach the knife, but the tight ropes cut into his wrists, making every movement excruciating.
He rocked the chair violently, shifting his weight left and right.
With a loud crash, the chair tipped over, slamming him onto the hard floor.
“Fuck,” he groaned.
Pain shot through his arm as he landed awkwardly, but he clenched his jaw, refusing to give in to the agony.
Gritting his teeth, he began wriggling and dragging himself toward the knife.
Finally, his fingers brushed against the blade’s handle.
Wrapping his hand around it, he angled the knife carefully and began sawing at the ropes around his wrists.
Each movement was slow and deliberate, the blade biting through the fibers one by one.
After what felt like an eternity, his right hand broke free.
Wasting no time, he cut the rope binding his left wrist and then worked on the restraints around his legs.
As the last rope fell away, Henry pushed himself up and dashed out of the house, only to find himself stranded in a secluded place.
The landscape stretched out before him, with nothing but empty fields and dense woods in every direction.
With no phone and car, he couldn’t reach the hospital any time soon.
“Fuck,” he cursed loudly, his voice echoing in the air.
But giving up wasn’t an option.
That man’s words clearly indicated that someone didn’t want him to operate on Thomas.
“Someone definitely doesn’t want Thomas to survive,” he muttered.
“I need to get to the hospital fast.” Henry began sprinting down the dirt road, determined to find help-or at least a way back to the city.
Each step sent pain shooting up his body, but his willpower refused to let him stop.
His lungs burned, each breath coming in sharp gasps, but the urgency of the situation kept him moving.
As he rounded a bend in the road, he saw a house from afar.
Hope surged through him, and for the first time since his abduction, he felt like he might actually make it.
His pace quickened, the ache in his muscles forgotten as the house drew nearer.
When he finally reached the porch, he pressed the doorbell frantically.
The door creaked open, revealing an elderly woman.
Before she could speak, Henry collapsed to his knees, his body unable to hold itself up any longer.
“Help me,” he gasped.
