Chapter 209: This is the right thing for both of us.
Dylan’s touch, his relentless kisses, and the palpable heat between them made it nearly impossible for Ava to hold her ground.
The fortress she had built around her heart trembled, urging her to give in to this burning desire.
Taking her silence as consent, Dylan let his fingers glide beneath her dress.
Ava’s body betrayed her once again-her spine arched, her toes curled, and her hands gripped the bedspread.
“I missed this so much,” Dylan whispered.
His hand traveled upward, his fingers brushing over her breast with reverence.
“Dylan,” Ava held his hand, making him pause.
“This isn’t right.
I can’t€¦ I don’t€¦” Her words stopped him.
Dylan met her gaze, and in her eyes, he saw the hesitation.
Disappointment clawed at his chest, but he knew he couldn’t push her further.
He reluctantly drew back.
No matter how much he wanted her, he couldn’t do it without her consent.
“Sorry,” he said quietly, his chest heavy.
“I shouldn’t have pushed you.
I promise I won’t do it again.” He rolled out of the bed and got out of the door.
Ava’s chest heaved as she stared at the closed door, her mind reeling.
Dylan’s lingering scent, the warmth of his touch, and the electric sensations he had left in his wake refused to fade.
Her emotions tangled in a web of confusion.
She had wanted him to stop, yet now that he was gone, an ache settled deep in her chest.
Why was this empty feeling in her stomach?
She pulled a pillow and hugged it close to her chest as if trying to fill that emptiness inside her.
“Why can’t I just move on?” The conflicting emotions choked her, threatening to spill over.
Suddenly, the sound of the front door opening and closing pierced through her thoughts.
Her body jolted upright, alarmed.
“He left!” she exclaimed.
“Where could he be going at this hour?” Dylan got into his car, dialing Justin’s number with urgency.
“Where are you?” he asked as the call connected.

“I’m at the Moonlit Hotel,” Justin replied.
“I talked to the receptionist and showed him your photo, but he said he hadn’t seen you here.
I even spoke to the manager, and he denied ever hosting guests with woman escorts.
Are you sure this is the place?” Dylen fell silent.
He racked his brain, trying to recall the details of the night.
The haze of alcohol made his memory frustratingly unreliable.
He wasn’t sure if it was the same hotel.
“I can’t say for certain,” he admitted regretfully.
“Not until I see it for myself.
Wait there-I’m coming.” Ending the call, Dylan started the engine and pulled onto the road.
Ava stood barefoot in the doorway, her wide eyes stayed locked on the fading taillights of Dylan’s car as it disappeared into the shroud of darkness.
Eventually, she successfully pushed him away.
He had left.
A hollow laugh escaped her lips.
“I did it.
I finally pushed him away.” This was what she had wanted, wasn’t it?
She had worked so hard to sever their ties.
She had succeeded in breaking free from the chains of her old life-ended her marriage with Dylan and fulfilled her purpose.
She had won.
Then why did it feel like she had lost?
The pain in her chest was sharp and unrelenting.
It was as though she had torn a piece of her own soul in the process of pushing him away.
Her shoulders sagged as she tried to push away the distress from her heart.
“It’s better this way,” she muttered, trying to convince herself.
“This is the right thing for both of us.” With a deep breath, she stepped inside and closed the door behind her.
Dylan’s car screeched to a halt in front of the Moonlit Hotel.
He looked at Justin’s car parked a few yards away on the side of the road.
‘He might be inside the hotel,’ he mumbled in his mind as he stepped out of his car, his eyes moving to the name of the hotel on the top of the building.
The blinking neon lights of the hotel’s name flickered in alternating red and blue.
This was what he had seen while he had struggled to get out of the clutch of the man.
Dylan’s eyes traced the layout, scanning the lawn, the gate, and the entrance.
He could clearly tell that was the place where he had fought the man, but something was different from what he had seen earlier.
But what?
Dylan’s gaze narrowed, scanning every corner, every shadow.
He wasn’t sure what had changed.
He crossed the road with a purposeful stride and walked through the gate.
As he stood there, he glanced down at the ground, suddenly noticing the difference.
The once concrete walkway was no longer there – in its place, a plush, green carpet of artificial grass stretched across the ground, making everything look pristine and untouched.
In the meantime, Justin came over.
“Are you okay?” He scanned Dylan’s face and body for any sign of injury, but to his surprise, there was nothing – no bruises, no cuts, which surprised him and equally made him skeptical.
But Dylan barely heard him.
His gaze was fixed on the ground.
“I think this is not the place you were in,” Justin said cautiously.
“You were too drunk.
You might have wrongly seen the hotel name.” “This is the same hotel,” Dylan muttered.
“I fell from those stairs.” He pointed toward the porch.
“And I fought the man there, right where I’m standing.” His gaze moved to his right, where he remembered grappling with the man.
“I took a loose brick and hit the man.” Justin’s eyes followed Dylan’s hand, then dropped to the ground.
“Loose brick?
Are you sure?” he asked skeptically. Dylan’s temper flared at the doubt in his voice.
“Are you doubting me?” he snapped.
“Uh€¦um€¦” Justin stumbled over his words, trying to find the right way to ask.
“I-I’m just trying to understand what happened,” he said cautiously.
“The receptionist denied seeing you here.
He had no idea about the fight, and…” He gestured to the artificial grass beneath them.
“There is no loose brick here.
It’s all smooth.” “That receptionist is lying,” Dylan growled, his voice rising.
“He is trying to cover something up – just like they hurriedly covered the walkway with this fake grass.” His eyes hardened as he stared at the pristine carpet beneath them.
“I was drunk, but I didn’t lose my mind.”
