My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 219
Chapter 219: The conflicting emotions Chapter 219: The conflicting emotions The next day€¦ Ava stirred, faint sounds of movement pulling her from her slumber.
Her eyelids fluttered open, and she turned to find Dylan hunched over his suitcase, carefully folding and packing his belongings.
She propped herself up on her elbows, sleep fading as a pang of unease settled in her chest.
“Are you leaving?” Dylan straightened briefly, meeting her gaze before turning back to his task.
“Yes.
Before heading to work, I thought I’d take my things to my apartment.” “Apartment?
Aren’t you going back to the villa?” Ava was surprised.
He stood upright this time, facing her fully.
“The villa is yours now.
You can move in whenever you’re ready.” “But I don’t want it€¦” “I know,” Dylan interrupted.
“You’ve never asked for anything, not even alimony.
But the villa was always more yours than mine.
You turned it into a home.
Consider it my parting gift.” ‘Parting gift!’ Those words echoed in her mind like a distant warning bell, her hands clasping the bedspread unconsciously.
So, he was finally letting go, finally leaving her life for good.
She had thought she wanted this-freedom, distance-but instead of relief, a hollow sadness crept into her heart.
“I made breakfast.” Dylan’s voice broke through her spiraling thoughts.
“Go freshen up.
Let’s eat together.” Ava blinked, trying to process the unexpected gesture.
Confused.
“You prepared breakfast.
Why?” Hadn’t he made up his mind to part their ways?
“You are injured,” he reminded her.
But in reality, he wanted to stay a little longer with her.
“Stay home-no need to work and go to the hospital.
Don’t worry about your father.
I’ve already arranged a nurse for him.” Ava bit her lip, her emotions tumbling into confusion and frustration.
“No, I’m fine.
You don’t need to cook for me.
I can take care of myself.

And I’m not staying home-I’m going to work.” Dylan didn’t argue.
Instead, his gaze lingered on her for a moment longer, his expression unreadable.
Inwardly, he was excited to hear that she would go to the office.
The prospect of finding ways to linger in her presence filled him with a quiet thrill.
But he masked his excitement, arching a skeptical brow instead.
“Are you sure?” “Yes,” she replied sternly.
“Didn’t you assign me the job of preparing the bidding for the Port Development Project?
The tenders are due next week.
There’s no time to waste.
I want to finish it as soon as possible so I can resign.” The excitement in Dylan’s chest dimmed.
She was doing it to resign and sever ties with him faster.
His gaze flickered, betraying a hint of the turmoil inside him.
‘So eager to break free of me,’ he thought bitterly.
Yet, he knew he couldn’t hold her back.
After the heart attack, Thomas couldn’t take the huge responsibility of running a business.
Ava should step up.
It was her time to shine, to take the reins of her own destiny, and Dylan was determined to support her.
Swallowing his sadness, he forced a composed expression and nodded.
“Okay.
Finish the project, and I’ll accept your resignation.” Ava stared at the door Dylan had just closed behind him, her eyes wide with disbelief.
He had always resisted the idea of her resignation, coming up with every excuse imaginable to keep her tied to the company €“ to him.
But now, he had agreed so easily, as though he had already made up his mind to let her go.
This thought was infuriating and heart-wrenching.
“Liar,” she muttered, throwing a pillow toward the door.
“Didn’t you say you’d fight to save this relationship?
Have you already given up?” Tears of disappointment stung her eyes.
She brushed them away angrily.
“Why should I care?
It’s good we are finally accepting our separation.
I don’t need you anymore!” Even if she said that she couldn’t ignore the ache in her heart.
“Dylan, you scumbag.
You don’t deserve me.” She kicked the blanket off and climbed out of bed, limping toward the bathroom.
Unbeknownst to her, Dylan stood frozen outside the door, his hand hovering near the doorknob.
He had come back to grab his phone, but her muffled words stopped him in his tracks.
His lips curled into a genuine smile, his heart jumping with joy and excitement.
“You still love me,” he murmured.
“You just don’t want to admit it.
That’s fine.
If that’s how it is, I’ll make you confess.” Dylan entered the room with renewed zeal.
His gaze immediately landed on the pillow lying on the floor.
Chuckling softly, he bent down to pick it up and placed it neatly back on the bed.
He then walked to her wardrobe, selected a set of her clothes with care, and laid them out on the bed just like she used to do for him in the past.
With a satisfied smile, he left the room quietly, his heart filling with a renewed sense of purpose.
When Ava stepped out of the bathroom, her breath caught at the sight before her.
Her clothes were arranged neatly on the bed, and the pillow she had angrily tossed earlier was back in its rightful place.
She blinked slowly, her mouth slightly agape.
“Did he do this?” she mused aloud, utterly perplexed.
Her thoughts wandered to the past, to the countless times she had done these little things for him-laying out his clothes, preparing his meals, and ensuring his every comfort.
But now, he was doing it for her.
Why now?
She sank into her thoughts.
‘On one hand, he seems ready to let me go.
And then this€¦’ Her chest tightened with uncertainty.
‘What is he planning?
Is he trying to play with my emotions again?’ Knock-Knock€¦ A sudden knock at the door jolted her from her musing.
She jumped slightly and turned to the door, only to see Dylan walking in holding a tray.
Her hands flew to her chest instinctively as if trying to cover herself.
Dylan paused in the doorway, his eyes taking her in.
She stood there wrapped in nothing but a towel, droplets of water still clinging to her skin.
The sight was mesmerizing, and he felt a surge of desire he had suppressed.
His grip on the tray tightened as his mind spiraled to thoughts he shouldn’t entertain-not now.
“What are you doing?” Ava’s sharp tone sliced through his thoughts.
