Chapter 227: Erica with Luke Baker?
Ava emerged from the bathroom, her silky nightdress draping perfectly over her form, accentuating her curves.
She looked effortlessly elegant, her beauty illuminated by the soft glow of the bedside lamp.
The sight sent a ripple of desire through Dylan, his jaw tightening as he struggled to maintain control.
Turning abruptly, he cleared his throat.
“I should go now,” he said, avoiding her gaze.
“Don’t leave,” she said instantly, nervous to see him leaving.
Dylan stopped mid-step, his heart pounding against his ribs.
‘Did she just ask me to stay?’ He turned back slowly, his expression unreadable, though his mind was racing.
“Stay here tonight,” she added softly, her eyes pleading.
“I’m scared to be alone.” Her fingers nervously fidgeted with the hem of her dress.
“Are you sure?” he asked, though he was excited with the idea of staying there another night.
Ava gave a small, hesitant nod, her lips pressed together.
He hesitated for a moment, then quipped, “I don’t have any clothes here.” “That’s not a problem,” she replied quickly.
“You can wear one of Papa’s pajamas.
He has some new sets.
I’ll get it for you.” She left the room in a flurry.
A grin tugged at his lips as he ran a hand through his hair.
His heart raced with quiet elation.
Ava’s changed behavior ignited the flicker of hope in his heart.
‘Maybe it’s time,’ he mused.
‘Time to share my plans, to show her that I’ll make those who hurt her pay.
Maybe then she’ll trust me again€¦ maybe she’ll see that we can start over.’ Lost in thought, Dylan didn’t realize how much time had passed until Ava returned, holding a neatly folded pajama set.
“This is a brand-new set,” she said, handing it to him.
“I think it’ll fit you.” “Thank you.” Dylan took the clothes from her.
“You should get some rest now.
I’ll go to the guest room.” With that, he walked past her and exited the room.
Ava stood frozen in place, her fingers nervously twisting the hem of her nightdress.
She watched Dylan’s figure retreat from the room, her lips parting slightly as if to call out to him, but no sound emerged.

Her throat felt constricted.
A pang of disappointment hit her heart.
She was the one who had pushed him away from her.
And now, she longed for his presence beside her.
‘Why can’t I just say what I feel?’ she berated herself silently.
She sank onto the edge of the bed.
Her restless fingers traced aimless patterns on the fabric of the blanket.
The longing and her inability to express her desire stirred unsettling feelings within her.
She was restless, willing to rush to him.
At the same time, she was self-conscious.
Her mind battled between logic and longing.
‘What would he think if I asked him to stay in her room?
He’d probably smirk, maybe even tease me.’ Ava curled her knees to her chest, hugging them tightly.
‘Why am I like this?’ she thought bitterly.
Inside the guest room€¦ After freshening up, Dylan came out of the washroom, his damp hair tousled, and the slightly loose pajamas draped over him.
Though the fit wasn’t perfect, he could manage with this one night.
“Not bad.
Maybe I should move my things back here,” he mumbled with a playful glint in his eyes.
Ring-Ring-Ring€¦ The ringing of his phone grabbed his attention.
His eyes flicked to the nightstand, and the playful glint in them faded when he saw Justin’s name on the screen.
He swiped to answer, his tone immediately shifting to one of seriousness.
“What is the update?” he asked instantly.
“We’ve identified the two men,” Justin reported.
“They are local thugs, repeat offenders.
They’ve been in and out of jail for theft, assault, and a few other petty crimes.
The authorities are on their trail, so it’s only a matter of time before they are caught.” Justin’s next words made his chest tighten with unease.
“There is more.
The footage also showed Erica at the hotel.” “Erica?” Dylan’s brows shot up.
“What was she doing there?” The thought of her lurking near Ava’s recent attack made his blood boil.
‘That woman’s presence always spells trouble.’ Justin hesitated for a beat before continuing, “She went into room 108C.
I managed to check the hotel register, and€¦” He paused and then added cautiously, “What I found was shocking.” “Tell me, what did you see?” Dylan demanded, his patience thinning.
“Room 108C was booked under the name Luke Baker.” “Luke Baker?” Dylan echoed incredulously.
“Are you telling me Erica’s involved with that womanizer?
What the hell is going on?” “I’m just telling you what I found in the footage and the records,” Justin replied, clearly uneasy.
Dylan’s grip on the phone tightened, his mind racing.
He couldn’t believe Erica had met with their arch-rival.
What was she doing there?
Was she dating him?
Or was she plotting something sinister?
“She came out of the room more than an hour later,” Justin continued.
“What was she doing in there for over an hour?” Dylan muttered under his breath.
His nostrils flared as he tried to contain his rising fury.
“This is not just a casual meeting.
She is scheming.
That snake.” His dark eyes burned with anger.
He wished to find Erica and slap her.
“She hooked up with our rival.
She is planning something big.
Something to sabotage us.” “Could be,” Justin added cautiously.
“It’s possible Luke’s been supporting her from the shadows.” “Hmm€¦” Dylan nodded, a sneer forming on his lips.
“If Luke Baker is her benefactor, then she has made her a fatal mistake.
Since she wants to play games, I’ll make sure she loses everything.” Before ending the call, he commanded fiercely, “Find the men who attacked Ava.
I want to know if they’re tied to Erica or the Bakers.” Lowering the phone, Dylan stood motionless for a moment, his knuckles white from gripping it too hard.
His fury simmered.
“You’ve crossed the line, Erica.
Aligning yourself with our enemy?
You are doomed.” Knock-Knock€¦ A firm knock on the door snapped Dylan from his spiraling thoughts.
His brows furrowed as he turned toward the sound.
“Is she still awake?” Crossing the room, he opened the door and was met with an unexpected sight-Ava, standing there, holding a glass of milk.
His gaze dropped to the milk glass, and they moved up to her face, a surprised look crossing his face.
She hadn’t brought him milk since the days when their lives had been turned upside down.
Ava’s lips pressed together nervously, and she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, clearly uncomfortable under his silent gaze.
“I wasn’t sure if you had eaten.
So, I thought…
maybe you’d like some milk.”
