My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 234
Chapter 234: Clearing the doubts Chapter 234: Clearing the doubts “Really?” Ava exclaimed, shocked.
The ground beneath her seemed to shift as Nicholas’s words dismantled the assumption she had clung to so firmly.
She had been certain Scott’s collaboration was due to Nicholas’s influence, but now, confusion and questions clouded her mind.
“I don’t know if someone contacted Scott or influenced him to work with us,” Nicholas said calmly, adding to her perplexion.
“Remember what he said in the meeting?
He wanted to explore this new field.
Maybe he just chose us randomly.” Ava bit her lip.
She wasn’t convinced.
A director of Scott’s stature wouldn’t have randomly selected a new team.
Someone had to be pulling the strings.
But who?
Then, like a sudden flash of lightning, a memory struck her.
Dylan had got agitated when she said Nicholas had arranged for Scott to direct their short dramas.
His frustration, the look in his eyes, and his biting words now made sense.
The realization dawned upon her.
It was Dylan.
He had been quietly helping her all along, and she had unknowingly given the credit to someone else.
Guilt twisted in her stomach, and she cursed herself for her obliviousness.
“Ava, are you still there?” Nicholas’s impatient voice pulled her from her thoughts.
“I-I’ll talk to you later,” she stammered, eager to end the call.
“Wait a moment,” Nicholas cut in.
“There is something I need to warn you about.” Ava hesitated, bringing the phone back to her ear.
“It’s about Erica,” Nicholas said gravely.
“She was behind the attack on you.
She hired those thugs to ruin you.
And it doesn’t stop there-she is planning something big.
I’m working on finding out what it is, but until then, you need to stay vigilant.” Ava wasn’t interested in discussing Erica right now.
Her mind was too occupied with Dylan.
Besides, she had already learned about Erica from Dylan.
She would work with him to deal with Erica and her ally, Luke Baker.

“Thank you for informing this, Nicholas,” she said, her tone calm despite the turmoil inside her.
“I’ll be careful.” She ended the call and hurried out, heading toward Dylan’s office.
Her pulse quickened as she stepped into the corridor, her thoughts swirling with regret.
She needed to make things right with Dylan.
She had been so wrong about him, and now her heart ached to express her apology.
But just as she neared his office, her steps faltered.
There he was, walking out with Justin.
Their gazes met.
Dylan’s expression was unreadable, his dark eyes holding a glimmer of curiosity mixed with faint surprise.
Ava felt her throat tighten as she approached them, her resolve wavering slightly under the weight of her emotions.
She stopped a few paces away, forcing herself to hold his gaze.
“Dylan, I need to talk to you.” Justin, sensing they needed some privacy, decided to leave first.
“I’ll wait in the conference hall.” He walked away.
Ava’s chest tightened as she realized Dylan was on his way to a meeting.
She hesitated, her confidence briefly shaken.
“You were saying something?” Dylan asked, pulling her back from her spiraling thoughts.
“Yes, um-” Ava faltered, her hands fidgeting at her sides.
“I can wait.
We can talk later.
You should go and attend the meeting first.” She cast her eyes downward, trying to compose herself, but she could feel Dylan’s steady gaze on her.
Dylan squinted at her slightly, studying her.
Her urgency had been clear a moment ago, but now she was brushing it off, pretending it wasn’t important.
“Are you sure?
I can reschedule the meeting if you need to talk.” “No, no-don’t do that,” Ava blurted, shaking her head.
“I’ll wait.” Dylan hesitated for a moment before giving a reluctant nod.
“Okay, if you say so.” He turned and walked away.
Ava’s sudden shift in demeanor unsettled him.
His eyebrows pinched as he thought, ‘What is in her mind?
Is she planning to resign early?’ The idea left a bitter taste.
He knew Ava had her responsibilities-she had to step up and take over The Williams Holdings, replacing her father.
It was inevitable.
Yet, the thought of her leaving brought an unexpected pang of unease.
“It’s her duty,” he murmured as though trying to convince himself.
“I shouldn’t hold her back.” Reaching out to the doorknob, he twisted it and entered the conference hall.
Ava waited for Dylan impatiently.
An hour had passed in a blink, but the meeting was yet to be over.
Her phone buzzed, pulling her attention away.
Seeing her father’s name on the screen, she quickly answered.
“Papa, is everything okay?
Did Ethan arrive to take you home?” she asked with concern.
“No, Ethan hasn’t arrived yet,” Thomas replied calmly.
“But your aunt is here.” Ava’s eyes lit up.
“Aunt Julia?” she exclaimed, her voice lifting with joy.
A wide grin spread across her face, her earlier tension dissolving like mist.
Aunt Julia had been a second mother to her, raising her with love and care after her mother’s death.
“Yes,” Thomas chuckled softly.
“And she is eager to see you.
If it’s possible, can you come to the hospital.”” “I’ll be there shortly.” Ava’s heart fluttered with excitement.
After ending the call, she quickly typed out a message to Dylan: ‘I’m going to the hospital.
I won’t be back today for work.
Count it as a day off.’ Stuffing her belongings into her bag, she hurried out the door.
Meanwhile, Dylan emerged from the conference hall, his mind already wandering back to Ava.
He pulled out his phone, intending to check on her, and spotted her message.
His brows furrowed immediately.
“Hospital?” he mused aloud.
“Is everything okay?” He remembered Ava saying that Thomas had been getting discharged.
What was the need for her to rush to the hospital? Had something happened to Thomas?
Unease prickled at his chest.
His mind raced with worst-case scenarios.
Without delay, he called her.
Ava picked up on the second ring.
“Did you get my message?” “Yes€¦I just saw it.
Is Thomas okay?” “He is fine,” Ava assured him quickly, her cheerful tone a stark contrast to his concern.
“He is getting discharged today.
I’m heading to the hospital to meet my aunt-Aunt Julia’s here!” Dylan exhaled, his worry easing slightly.
There was nothing serious.
She was just excited about meeting her aunt.
“I haven’t seen her in so long,” Ava said, her excitement palpable.
“I can’t wait to see her again.” Dylan’s lips curved into a small smile, her joy momentarily infectious.
“All right,” he said softly.
“Give her my regards.” Ending the call, he went to his office.
Ava arrived at the hospital and found Julia chatting with her father.
“Aunt!” She rushed to her aunt, throwing her arms around her in a tight embrace.
Julia laughed, enveloping Ava in a comforting hug.
“It’s been too long, sweetheart.
How are you holding up?” Ava pulled back, her eyes sparkling.
“See for yourself!” She spread her arms theatrically, a wide grin on her face.
“You’re as radiant as ever, my lovely doll,” Julia said, brushing a stray lock of hair from Ava’s face.
Ava giggled, her hands clasping Julia’s tightly.
“Are you staying with us?” Julia let out an exaggerated sigh.
“No, darling.
I’m not staying.
In fact, I’m here to take your father with me.” Ava’s grin faltered, her gaze shifting to Thomas.
The cheerful light in her eyes dimmed as a mixture of surprise and concern flickered across her face.
