Dylan smiled, stepping toward her, one step at a time.
“Why can’t I be here?
Can’t I visit my father-in-law?” Ava’s heart skipped a beat, the word ‘father-in-law’ echoing in her ear.
It was the first time she heard him acknowledging her father as his father-in-law.
Her mouth fell open without her knowledge as she gawked at him. Dylan found her appearance amusing.
He took another step closer to her and leaned over, whispering in her ear, “Why are you so surprised?
Did you miss me?” Ava’s racing thoughts came to a halt.
She stepped back, her face flushing.
She looked away, nervously tucking her hair behind her ear.
“I-I was wondering how you managed to come here.
Didn’t you say you have meetings to attend to?” “Yes, I had, but I postponed the meetings,” he replied flippantly, straightening his back and slipping his hands into his pockets.
Ava blinked, caught off guard by his words.
“You postponed them€¦ just for my father?” she repeated.
“Why?
I mean you never postponed meetings.” Dylan cast a sidelong glance at her, recalling his past indifference.
He had ignored her and her issues enough, but no more.
He would keep her ahead of anything else.
‘Because I now know what’s valuable to me,’ he intended to say this, but he changed the sentence at the last minute.
“Your father’s health matters more to me than any business deal.
When I received his call, I came immediately.” ‘Papa called him!’ Ava’s ears perked up in alarm as she wondered why her father had sought Dylan’s meeting.
“He wanted to discuss something with me,” Dylan added.
Ava’s surprise soon transformed into curiosity.
At the same time, she was anxious as well, pondering what her father had said to Dylan.
“What did he say?” she asked, eyeing him keenly as if trying to see through his mind.
“As a father, he is always concerned about you,” Dylan said with an air of pride, “and he wants me to take care of you while he is away.
He said he couldn’t entrust you to anyone else, but me.” The mirth in his eyes made Ava suspicious, her pupils shrinking as she studied him.
“Are you making fun of me?” she scoffed.
“Why will you entrust me to you?

He knows we are divorced.
Besides, I am capable of taking care of myself.” She rolled her eyes and tried to walk past him, her shoulder brushing against his.
Just as she took a few steps, Dylan tugged at her arm and drew her back to him.
“I know how capable you are,” he murmured, lowering his head to her ear.
“But let’s not forget last night-you were clinging to me, whispering your gratitude for saving you.” Ava’s face flushed crimson instantly.
“W- What are you talking about?” She tried to break free, only to make him tighten his grip and draw even closer.
Her heart leaped as his hot breathing itched her skin again.
“You don’t remember?” Dylan continued, his tone mockingly incredulous, his smirk widening.
“You looked up at me with those big, teary eyes and said, ‘Thank you, Dylan.'” Ava’s lips parted, her face burning with both embarrassment and frustration.
“It’s okay, Ava.
You don’t have to admit it.
But let me tell you this: I’m also the one your father trusts,” Dylan said proudly.
“You should stop looking for help from others.
I’m there for you €“ always.” Ava felt the corners of her lips twitch, a small, almost imperceptible smile forming.
She couldn’t deny that Dylan had stepped up for her in ways no one else had, and a part of her felt grateful, even comforted by his unwavering presence.
At that moment, her grievances with him seemed to dissolve into the background.
Dylan’s sharp eyes caught her fleeting smile, and his chest swelled with satisfaction.
He felt a flicker of hope, his resolve to win her back growing stronger.
“Your father thinks we should give this another shot,” he said smoothly.
“That’s why you are moving back into the villa.
I’ve already called Martha and asked her to bring your things from your father’s place.” Ava’s smile evaporated instantly, her brows knitting into a frown.
“What?” she exclaimed with disbelief.
“Why should I move back into the villa?
I’m perfectly fine where I am.” Before she could argue further, Dylan lifted a finger and gently pressed it against her lips, silencing her.
Her breath caught in her throat, her wide eyes dropping to his finger.
“Your father wants me to take you back to the villa,” he murmured.
Her heart thudded loudly in her chest.
Brushing his finger away, she said defiantly, “I don’t trust you.
Why would he say that?” Dylan chuckled softly, clearly entertained by her resistance.
His hand returned to her lips, his touch lighter this time.
“I have no reason to lie to you,” he smirked.
“If you don’t believe me, ask him yourself.” Ava’s hand shot up to push Dylan’s finger away, but before she could react, he moved with precision.
Catching her wrist effortlessly, he pinned her hand gently behind her back, pulling her flush against his chest.
In one fluid motion, he leaned down, letting his finger drop, and his lips brushed against hers.
Ava froze, her body going rigid as a wave of shivers rippled through her.
“Don’t you see?” Dylan murmured against her lips which sent another shiver down her spine.
“He wants us to reconcile.
He has given me a chance-why can’t you?
Let me prove myself to you.
I’m willing to change, to be better, to be the husband you deserve.
Trust me, Ava.
I won’t fail you again, not this time.” “Ahem€¦” Startled, they broke apart instantly, each stepping back as though caught doing something forbidden.
Both turned toward the source of the sound to find Julia standing a few feet away, her arms crossed, and an eyebrow arched in amusement.
“That’s quite bold of you two,” she quipped dryly.
“Your father is just a few steps away in that room, and here you are, acting like lovestruck teenagers at the door.
Why don’t you just go home?” Ava’s face turned a deep shade of crimson as she avoided Julia’s knowing gaze, her embarrassment palpable.
She dared a glance at Dylan.
‘This is all your fault!’ she fumed inwardly.
Dylan rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, his usual confidence shaken.
“Uh, I’ve got to head back to the office,” he mumbled, clearly flustered.
“See you in the evening.” Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked away briskly.
Ava’s eyes followed him, her glare drilling into his retreating figure.
‘Coward.
Running away after putting me in this mess?’ Her lips pressed into a pout. Ava’s thoughts were still tangled in the whirlwind of emotions when a sudden tug at her arm snapped her back to reality.
Her eyes shifted to Julia, who was watching her with an amused glint in her eyes.
“You said you wouldn’t go back to him,” Julia teased.
“Now here you are, kissing him!” Ava’s face blazed with heat.
“I didn’t kiss him,” she muttered defensively.
“He kissed me.” She could feel the weight of Julia’s teasing gaze, and she couldn’t handle any more of it.
Without another word, Ava turned and hurried into the ward, eager to escape the conversation.
