My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 246
Chapter 246: Working together Chapter 246: Working together “What condition?” Ethan was befuddled.
“Do you think I’d call you here without a purpose?” She gestured toward the sprawling wetland before them, her voice steady but laced with excitement.
“Look carefully.
This expanse will soon be transformed into a bustling model city.
I plan to purchase the land.” Ethan followed her gaze, taking in the vastness of the wetland stretching endlessly toward the horizon.
The sheer size of the land was staggering.
“That’s a huge plot.
It’s going to cost a fortune.” “This land is going up for auction soon,” she revealed.
“And I’m prepared to win the bid.” Ethan turned his gaze to her, a look of astonishment crossing over his face.
“When development starts, the land’s value will skyrocket,” she continued confidently.
“I’ll sell it for double, even triple the price.” The confidence in her eyes was befuddling and, at the same time, intriguing.
“Are you sure about that?” Ethan asked, doubt creeping into his mind.
“I’ve got insider information from a reliable source.” Reaching into her sleek handbag, she pulled out a neatly folded document and handed it to him.
Ethan unfolded the paper and scanned it carefully.
“This is classified information,” Lydia added.
“But I managed to get my hands on it.
Now, I’m ready to make a fortune from this opportunity.” She glanced at him, her expression shrewd.
“And if you play your cards right, you could have a share in the profits.” Ethan caught the glint in her eyes, her sly smile revealing more than her words.
Ethan understood what she had in her mind.
“You want me to invest in this land.” “You are smart, and I’ve always admired men with a quick mind.” Ethan glanced back at the document in his hands.
The thought of lucrative returns fueled the spark of greed within him.
“Fine€¦I’ll pay fifty percent of the price and take fifty percent of the profit.” “Well, well €“ look at who is speaking.
You sound like you have made much money over the years.” Lydia’s smirk deepened into something almost mocking.
“Are you sure you can afford half the price?” She looked disdainfully at him, doubting he could pay half the amount.
Ethan felt humiliated.
“Didn’t you say this land could sell for double its price once developed?” he shot back.
“This is a golden opportunity to double my investment in just a few years.
Why wouldn’t I take it?” “Fair enough.
Let’s see if you’ve got the guts to follow through.” Unbeknownst to their knowledge, Nicholas was watching them from afar, the binoculars pressed firmly against his eyes.
He had come to inspect the site, but he had never thought he would see Lydia and Ethan there.

“That’s interesting,” he mumbled, curling his lips slyly.
Alex, standing beside him, hesitated before voicing his concern.
“Sir, are you certain about investing in this land?
The environmentalists are strongly opposed to its development.
They claim the wetland is a crucial habitat for several bird species.
If protests escalate, the project could be delayed-or even scrapped.
It might be a risky move.” Nicholas was now more interested in what he was seeing.
He handed the binoculars to Alex.
“Take a look for yourself.
Ethan and Lydia are here too.
Seems they have a vested interest in this land.” Alex quickly brought the binoculars to his face, adjusting the lenses until the scene came into focus.
“It really is them!” he mumbled, the shock evident in his voice.
Memories of Ethan’s secretive meeting with Lydia in the secluded forest several days ago flooded back to him.
He had kept that incident under wraps, not wanting to burden Nicholas, who had still been recovering at the time.
But now, seeing them here together again, Alex’s suspicions deepened.
Lowering the binoculars, Alex turned to Nicholas, his expression grim.
“Do you think they are just here to inspect the land?
This feels like more than a coincidence.
They might be working together-possibly plotting something sinister.” Nicholas’s eyes flickered dangerously as memories of Ava’s concerns resurfaced.
She had been adamant that someone was poisoning her father, and at the time, he had dismissed it as paranoia.
But now, after witnessing Ethan and Lydia together, a shadow of doubt crept into his mind.
Could there be truth to Ava’s fears?
Had Thomas been deliberately poisoned, triggering the heart attack?
If so, why hadn’t any traces shown up in the tests?
The unanswered questions swirled in his mind like a storm, darkening his thoughts.
“Take me home,” he said abruptly, his voice steely, as he strode toward the sleek black car parked a short distance away.
Alex, caught off guard, jogged to catch up.
“What about the land?
Are you still planning to buy it?” Nicholas didn’t break stride.
“Not interested,” he replied curtly, sliding into the passenger seat.
“There are more pressing matters to address.” Alex got behind the wheel.
The engine roared to life, and the car sped off.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Dylan spent the day battling restlessness.
His fever came and went, leaving him drenched in sweat, while a stubborn headache lingered.
By nightfall, the fever broke, and the throbbing in his head dissipated.
Feeling a glimmer of strength return, he decided to leave the confines of his room.
His steps were unsteady because of his weakened state, but he managed to walk out.
As he reached the hall, his eyes fell on Ava, who was perched on the sofa, her laptop balanced on her knees.
He glanced at the wall clock: nearly midnight.
“You are still working!” He approached her.
“It’s late now.
You can finish the rest of the work tomorrow.” Ava looked up, her expression softening at the sight of him.
“I’m almost done,” she replied, shutting the laptop and putting it on the central table.
She stood, placing her hand gently on his forehead.
“Your temperature is normal.
That’s a relief.
How do you feel?” “Much better now.
But you’ve been working all day.
Go and get some rest.” “Wait here.
I’ll make you some ginger tea.” Before Dylan could protest, she was already headed toward the kitchen.
He sighed and sank into the sofa.
His gaze wandered to her laptop, still resting on the coffee table.
‘What could have kept her so engrossed all day?’
