My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 247
Chapter 247: No money, no deal.
Chapter 247: No money, no deal.
Driven by curiosity, Dylan opened Ava’s laptop.
The screen revealed her progress on the project bidding.
Leaning in, he browsed through the details, his brow furrowing in concentration.
He was so absorbed that he didn’t notice when Ava returned.
“Here is your tea.” She placed the steaming cup of ginger tea on the table and settled beside him, cradling her lemon tea in her hands.
Dylan gestured toward the screen.
“I think you should revise this part.” Ava leaned forward, her eyes scanning the area he indicated.
“What exactly are you suggesting?” Dylan began explaining.
Ava listened intently, her focus unwavering as she sipped her tea.
Their conversation deepened, each contributing ideas until they reached an agreement.
With a small nod, Ava began typing, her fingers gliding over the keyboard as she incorporated the revisions.
Finally, she hit the save button with a satisfying click.
Dylan’s face lit up with approval.
“It’s perfect.
I’m confident we’ll win this project.” But Ava’s expression turned pensive all of a sudden, her eyes distant.
The smile on Dylan’s face faltered as he noticed her change in demeanor.
“What is it?” he asked, a hint of worry in his eyes.
“You are not happy with it?
Do you want to change something?” Ava shook her head, her conviction returning.
“No, I’m satisfied with the final report.
It’s not that.” “Then what’s on your mind?” Ava opened her mouth to say but paused when her gaze drifted to his untouched cup.
“Your tea’s cold now.
Let me make you a fresh one.” Dylan waved her off, standing up.
“No need.
I’m done with tea for tonight.
I just want to get some sleep.
You should rest too.
We’ll talk tomorrow.” With that, he went back into the guest room.

Once he disappeared into the room, Ava’s gaze moved to the laptop screen, her thoughts spinning like a storm.
Her instincts told her Erica, with Luke’s cunning assistance, might already be plotting to derail their bid.
This was the chance to trick them.
A slow, calculating smile spread across her face as an idea took shape.
‘This could be my chance to outsmart them,’ she mused.
“The final report is flawless,” she murmured, brimming with confidence.
“It’s a winning bid.
But the earlier version€¦ it’s still good enough to bait them.” She could already picture Erica and Luke scrambling to seize the false lead, only to fall into her trap.
“Let’s see how they handle being played at their own game.” ~~~~~~~~~~~ Ava secretly installed a spy camera inside her office.
She sat back in her chair, a sense of satisfaction washing over her as she monitored the spy camera feed on her laptop.
The office remained undisturbed for now, but she knew it was only a matter of time before someone took the bait.
Her plan was set.
She had strategically spread the word about completing the bidding draft, ensuring the news reached every corner of the company.
Now, she would wait for the mole to show up.
“Everything is ready,” she murmured confidently.
“Let’s see who Erica’s little pawn is.” A wicked smile tugged at her lips.
The sudden chime of her phone broke her concentration.
She glanced at the screen, her expression softening as Lola’s name appeared.
Answering the call, she was greeted by her friend’s cheerful voice.
“Ava!
I’ve missed you!” Lola exclaimed.
“It’s been a while,” Ava said warmly.
“Where have you been?” “It’s so good to hear your voice,” Lola chirped delightfully from the other end.
“I have been out of the town for work.
I’m back now, though.
Let’s catch up over dinner!” “Absolutely,” Ava agreed without hesitation.
“Let’s meet tonight.
I could use a good meal and some company.” “Okay, I’ll reserve a table then.” After they set a time and place, Ava hung up, her smile shifting to one of calculated intent.
“Perfect timing.” She had been planning to leave early to see if anyone would sneak into her office while she wasn’t around.
She deliberately slipped the decoy documents inside the drawer and left it unlocked.
“Now I want to see who will come inside while I am away.” Unbeknownst to all of this, Erica reached out to Luke and demanded to transfer the money to her account.
“What’s the hurry?” Luke asked, his tone casual, a stark contrast to the storm brewing inside Erica.
“I want the documents first.” “You’ll get the documents only after I see the money in my account,” she snapped.
“No money, no deal.
Take it or leave it.” “You!” Luke’s tone turned colder.
“You’re playing a dangerous game, Erica.
Why should I trust you?
What if you double-cross me and vanish with my money?
I won’t give you a cent until those documents are in my hands.” Luke was no fool, and his icy tone made it clear he wasn’t going to bend easily.
Erica opened her mouth to fire back, but the line suddenly went dead.
“Damn him!” she hissed, tossing the phone onto her bed.
“What am I going to do now?
What if he refuses to give me money once he gets the documents?
No, I can’t let this happen.
I need money.” Her chest heaved as she struggled to calm her racing thoughts.
“Luke, you’ll pay-whether you like it or not.” With renewed resolve, she grabbed her phone and burst out of her room, but her steps faltered when she caught a snippet of her mother’s conversation on the phone.
She stopped abruptly, tilting her head toward the slightly open door of the adjacent room.
Curiosity piqued, Erica stepped closer and positioned herself beside the doorframe.
She peered through the narrow gap.
Inside, her mother stood by the window with her phone pressed against her ear, her tone laced with a hint of satisfaction as she discussed some land deal.
‘She is going to purchase a land!’ Erica was stunned.
‘What kind of land is it?’ Intrigued, she leaned slightly toward the door, her ear straining to catch every word.
“I appreciate your assistance, Mr.
Blair,” Lydia said, laughing sweetly.
“I’ll see you at the auction house.” She ended the call, a smile lingering on her face.
But that smile vanished instantly when her sharp eyes caught Erica’s reflection in the window glass.
“Erica?” Lydia’s voice cut through the air like a whip.
She turned briskly, her piercing eyes locking onto her daughter.
“What are you doing there?” Erica jumped, her heart pounding.
“I-I was just passing by,” she stammered.
Forcing a sheepish smile, she stepped into the room.
“Who are you speaking with?
Are you going to purchase a land?” “I don’t have to explain myself to you,” Lydia grunted.
“You’d better focus on your own mess.
If you screw up again, don’t expect me to bail you out.” Erica pouted, her expression turning defensive.
“Why are you scolding me?
I didn’t do anything wrong.” Then, with a sly tilt of her head, she added, “I was just curious.
Who is Mr.
Blair?
Is he a friend of yours?”
