My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 261
Chapter 261: Erica shoved the butler down.
Chapter 261: Erica shoved the butler down.
Outside, the butler trembled as dread set in.
He had just returned from his errand, intending to ask about dinner plans, only to stumble upon a conversation he was never meant to hear.
He had recorded everything Erica and Lydia had said on his phone.
But he was too scared and clumsy because of fear.
When he tried to sneak away, his foot caught the edge of an indoor plant’s pot, sending it skidding across the floor with a noisy scrape.
Worse, his phone slipped from his grasp, hitting the floor with a clatter. Heart racing, he grabbed the phone and made a desperate attempt to flee, but the door creaked open before he could take more than a step.
Lydia and Erica emerged, their expressions dark and piercing.
His breath caught, and his skin turned ashen.
Lydia’s sharp gaze locked on him, narrowing with suspicion.
She tilted her head slightly as she inspected him.
“What were you doing here?” she asked calculatedly, taking a step toward him.
The butler stumbled back, his palms slick with sweat as he gripped the phone.
“I-I just came to ask€¦ about dinner,” he stammered.
“And€¦ Did you hear anything you shouldn’t have?” She advanced another step, her eyes still scanning him.
trying to see through his mind.
“N-no!
I didn’t hear anything!” he blurted, retreating further.
“Is that so?” Lydia’s lips curled into a sly sneer as she looked at his flustered face, every twitch and tremor betraying him.
“Then why are you so nervous?” Her eyes flicked to the phone in his hand. The butler shook his head frantically, trying to hide the phone behind his back.
“I’m not-I swear, I’m not nervous!” “Don’t trust him, Mom,” Erica hissed, fury radiating from her eyes.
“He heard us.
He is a problem now.” The butler’s knees buckled as Erica’s words sealed his fate.
He clutched the phone tighter, but the overwhelming sense of dread tightened his chest.
His mind screamed at him to flee.
If he couldn’t escape, he might end up being killed.
“I-I didn’t hear anything,” he stammered.
“I won’t cause any trouble.
Please, trust me!” “Give me the phone,” Lydia demanded, stretching her hand toward him.

The butler hesitated.
He had served the Brooks family faithfully for decades.
Though fear gnawed at his resolve, a sense of duty burned brighter.
The truth of the Brooks couple’s deaths needed to be revealed.
The murderers shouldn’t go unpunished.
Dylan deserved to know the truth.
At that moment of desperation, he spun on his heels and dashed toward the hallway.
But Erica was quicker than him.
She darted ahead of him, her arms outstretched as she blocked his path.
“Hand me the phone,” she barked.
“Now.” The butler froze, his pulse pounding in his ears.
Turning to flee in the other direction, he found Lydia advancing toward him.
He was cornered.
“Give it to us.” Erica lunged at him, her fingers clawing at his hand.
The butler staggered, struggling to keep the phone out of her reach.
Lydia joined in the scuffle, her nails digging into his wrist.
The butler fought valiantly, his loyalty to the Brooks driving his strength.
But he was no match for their combined force.
His grip slipped, and Lydia ultimately wrenched the phone from his grasp.
“No!” the butler cried, his hands reaching desperately toward her.
Before he could reach it, Erica pushed him down the stairs. “Ah€¦” The butler’s arms flailed as he lost his balance.
His feet stumbled over the edge of the staircase, and his body pitched forward.
He tumbled down, his body colliding with each step in sickening thuds.
At the bottom of the stairs, he lay motionless, his eyes half-open and unseeing.
A small pool of blood began to seep from his temple, staining the pristine marble floor.
Lydia and Erica stood at the top of the stairs, frozen for a moment as they stared down at his limp form.
“What have you done?” Lydia whispered, shocked.
Erica’s chest heaved with adrenaline, her lips curling into a grimace.
“He would have run away if I hadn’t done that,” she muttered, although she was trembling in dread.
The sudden clamor drew the other servants to the hall, and they rushed into the hall.
Their eyes widened in horror at the sight before them-the butler lying unconscious at the base of the staircase, blood seeping from a wound on his forehead.
Gasps rippled through the group as their gazes darted upward.
Erica stood at the top of the stairs, her hands pressed against her mouth, her wide eyes feigning shock.
Beside her, Lydia loomed, her expression cold and unreadable.
“What are you staring at?” Lydia’s voice snapped like a whip.
“He tripped and fell.
Take him to the hospital immediately!” The servants exchanged uneasy glances, but her commanding tone spurred them into action.
They carefully lifted the butler and carried him out of the house.
As the door closed behind them, silence settled over the grand hall, heavy and oppressive.
Lydia exhaled sharply, her gaze dropping to the phone in her hand.
Her fingers curled tightly around it.
“Mom, what do we do now?” Erica’s voice broke the quiet, trembling with panic.
“What if he wakes up and tells Dylan everything?” Lydia’s jaw tightened, and her eyes flickered with calculation.
For a long moment, she remained silent, her mind racing through possibilities.
“That won’t happen,” she said firmly.
“I’ll make sure of it.” Then she drew in a steadying breath, her lips pressing into a thin line.
“This happened because we were careless-arguing like fools and letting our emotions take control.
If we are not united, anyone can exploit us.
We need to work together, Erica.
Only then can we protect ourselves.” Lydia’s voice dropped, cold and decisive.
“You need money, and I’ll give it to you.
But this is a loan, not a gift.
I want it repaid-every penny-before the auction.” A spark of hope ignited in Erica’s eyes.
She clasped her hands together, her lips curving into a relieved smile.
“You have my word, Mom.
I’ll pay you back before the auction.”
