Chapter 278: Luke is planning to kill Nicholas.
“I sent Justin off to handle something,” he explained, rolling the wheelchair closer to her.
“Enough about me.
Tell me-how was your first day as the president?” “It was€¦ eventful.
I think I’ve signed my weight in documents today.” Ava sighed dramatically, holding up her hands for him to see.
“My fingers are practically frozen.” She pouted.
Dylan chuckled, taking her hands in his.
He brought them to his lips and placed a tender kiss on each one.
His warm touch sent a pleasant shiver up her spine.
“How does it feel now?” Ava’s pout turned into a sheepish smile.
“Better,” she whispered with a playful glint in her eyes.
“But€¦I think I want more.” Dylan’s brow quirked at her words, a smirk playing on his lips.
“More?” he tugged at her hand, pulling her forward.
“Ah!” Ava gasped, landing squarely on his lap, her hands instinctively bracing against his shoulders.
Her wide eyes locked with his, a flush of surprise and embarrassment spreading across her cheeks.
“Dylan, what are you doing?” she stammered, wriggling slightly.
“We’re in a hospital!
Anyone could walk in and see us.” But Dylan only tightened his arms around her, anchoring her in place.
“You said you wanted more.
How could I not fulfill your wish?” He cupped her chin with one hand and leaned in, capturing her lips with his.
His kiss was gentle but unyielding, an unspoken promise of devotion.
Ava’s initial surprise melted into a smile against his lips as her hands relaxed against his chest.
“How is it?” Dylan whispered, his lips brushing against her ear.
“Do you want more?” Ava drew back slightly, placing a hand firmly against his chest.
Her expression was a mix of affection and caution.
“Control yourself.
You’ve just recovered.” Dylan smirked, undeterred.
“I’m still strong enough€¦” Ava pressed her fingers against his lips and stopped him.
“Don’t talk.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Let’s go home first.” “Quite impatient, huh?” he teased.
Tightening his arms around her, he added with a devilish grin, “If you’re so eager, we could just do it here.” “No!” Ava squirmed in his hold.
“There is something important I need to discuss with you.” The seriousness in her tone sobered Dylan.
He studied her face for a moment, then nodded.
“Alright.
We’ll go home.” ~~~~~~~~~~ The villa was bathed in the amber glow of the setting sun as Ava and Dylan arrived.
Long shadows stretched across the courtyard.
Once inside, Ava pushed him gently into the bedroom.
“Wait here.
I’ll get your clothes.” She headed to the closet.
Meanwhile, Dylan’s phone rang with an incoming call from Justin.
His expression changed instantly as he saw his name.
He rolled the wheelchair out of the bedroom, moving toward the study for privacy.
“Did you find anything?” he asked as he moved the wheelchair into the study.
Justin’s tone on the other end was tense, almost trembling.
“This is serious.
Luke is planning to kill Nicholas.” Dylan stiffened.
“Are you sure?” “I overheard him talking to a doctor,” Justin explained with urgency.
“Nicholas has been in touch with an agency to find a donor.
They finally found someone €“ a man in a vegetative state.
But the patient’s family isn’t ready to decide to pull life support.
Nicholas has been negotiating with them, offering money.
Meanwhile, Luke is conspiring with the doctor to ensure Nicholas doesn’t make it through surgery.” Dylan said nothing.
All he did was listen to him quietly.
“Luke is planning to sabotage this entire operation,” Justin continued.
“If he succeeds, Nicholas won’t survive.” After a moment of deliberation, he asked cautiously, “Should we tell Nicholas about this conspiracy?
He is still young€¦ he doesn’t deserve to die like this.” “Keep this between us for now,” Dylan replied firmly.
“I want the details-everything about the patient and the doctor involved.” Ending the call, he muttered, “Luke is such a cowardly bastard, plotting to kill someone who is barely holding onto life.” “There you are.” The sound of Ava’s voice startled him.
Dylan turned, slipping the phone into his pocket, and saw her standing in the doorway.
Her expression was a mix of curiosity and mild exasperation.
“I have been looking for you,” she said as she stepped closer.
“Why are you here?
Don’t tell me you’re planning to work already.” He couldn’t tell her what he had just uncovered-it would only upset her.
Instead, he mustered a casual smile.
“I thought I’d check a few emails.” “No work.
You need rest.” “I’ve been doing nothing but resting at the hospital.
Now I feel like I’ve got energy to spare.” Ava gasped, her cheeks warming as she caught the playful gleam in his eyes.
Instantly, her mind went back to their kiss at the hospital.
“You’ve become so€¦ talkative lately,” she said, attempting to sound stern.
“You weren’t like this before.” “Huh?
When was I ever quiet?” he countered.
“You’ve never said this kind of thing before.” His teasing smirk grew wider as he wheeled himself closer to her.
“What are you trying to say?” Ava folded her arms, feigning annoyance.
“You were cold in the past, that’s what I’m saying.
All you ever did was give me the cold shoulder, curse at me, and chastise me.
This side of you-the playful, charming side-is entirely new to me.” She pointed at him, gesturing up and down.
“I’m just wondering which side of you is the real one.” Dylan chuckled softly, catching her hand in his.
“You tell me.
Which one do you prefer?” Her heart fluttered at his touch, but she tilted her chin defiantly, refusing to show it.
“I don’t know.
It’s hard to say.
You have changed a lot.” He pulled her onto his lap, his arms firm around her waist.
Ava gasped, startled by the sudden move.
“Do you really want to know the real me?” he murmured, his breath brushing against her cheek.
“Let me show you.” He pressed his lips to the curve of her neck, the heat of his touch sending shivers down her spine.
“You’re the one who has changed me.
Now, I can’t think of myself without you.” His fingers began to toy with the buttons of her blouse, but she caught his hand.
“Not here,” she whispered, her voice trembling with both desire and restraint.
“Let’s go to the bedroom.” She tried to rise, but he held her in place.
“Not yet,” he said huskily, his eyes dark and intense.
“Kiss me.” Ava hesitated for a heartbeat, meeting his gaze.
His longing seemed to envelop her, drawing her in like a magnet.
Her resistance melted away, and she leaned forward, her lips brushing his in a soft kiss.
Slowly, she wrapped her arms around his neck, giving in to the pull she couldn’t resist.
Dylan deepened the kiss as he pressed the button to the wheelchair, guiding them toward the bedroom.
By the time they crossed the threshold, Ava pulled away, her breaths ragged.
Her wide eyes met his, uncertainty flickering in their depths.
“Dylan,” she whispered, her fingers tracing the line of his arm.
“Are we€¦?” But before she could finish, he gently cupped her face, his thumbs brushing against her cheeks.
“I’ve missed you so much,” he breathed.
“I want you.”
