My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 290
Chapter 290: It€™s her!
Chapter 290: It€™s her!
Ava’s fingers trembled as she reached for the pictures.
Her heart pounded against her ribs, dread creeping up her spine.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing, questions and doubts swirling in her mind.
No€¦ This couldn’t be real.
She lifted her gaze to Nicholas.
“He€¦ met with her?” Nicholas nodded grimly.
“More than once.” Ava’s world spun.
The trust she had so desperately held onto was beginning to crack.
“He was spotted with her just a few days before your father’s heart attack,” Nicholas said, pointing at the photo she was holding.
“This was taken near a deserted area close to the forest reserve.
And this one-” he handed her another picture, “-was at the wetland area.” He held up another phone.
“And that’s not all.
He was also spotted with her at the hospital the day of your father’s surgery.” Ava’s head snapped up, her wide eyes locking onto his.
“He met with Lydia at the hospital.
Are you sure?” “This is the proof.” Nicholas pushed the photo toward her.
The picture showed Ethan and Lydia standing in the dimly lit parking lot of the hospital, their bodies angled toward each other as if in hushed conversation.
“The surveillance footage inside the hospital was conveniently down that day,” Nicholas explained.
“So there is no direct evidence of Lydia sneaking into Mathew’s chamber.
But this-” he tapped the photo, “-this is from the parking lot’s security camera.
It was still working, and it caught them together.” Ava snatched the photo from him, her pupils shrinking as she took in every damning detail.
“He was with her.” The photographs screamed of deceit, but a part of her clung to the possibility that this was all some kind of mistake.
“Could it be just a misunderstanding?” she rasped.
“He€¦ he can’t possibly plot to kill my father, can he?” She wanted Nicholas to deny it €“ to tell her she was right.
But the grim expression on his face told her that no such comfort would come.
“Maybe his meeting with her is just coincidental,” she murmured as if trying to convince herself more than him.
“Maybe it’s something else-something completely unrelated to what you’re suspecting.” Her pleading eyes searched his, desperate for reassurance, for an answer that would absolve Ethan from this growing suspicion.
Nicholas watched her carefully, his sharp gaze noting the turmoil etched across her face.
He did not doubt Ethan’s involvement, but seeing Ava shaken, he held back from pushing her further.

“But think about it, Ava-how many coincidences can there be?
Meeting her once might be a chance, but repeatedly?
At different places?
At the hospital on the day of your father’s surgery?
Don’t you think something is going on between them?” Ava’s chest tightened.
She sank into the sofa further, her shoulders sagging.
“I don’t have solid proof that he was directly involved in the conspiracy,” Nicholas continued, “but his actions raise too many questions.
You can’t afford to trust him blindly.
This man-he could be dangerous.” Ava didn’t want to believe it.
Ethan had always been a part of her life.
But his recent actions, his behavior, the photographs-each one chipped away at the faith she had held onto.
She couldn’t ignore Nicholas’s warning.
A long, heavy silence stretched between them before Ava finally spoke, “Thank you, Nicholas.
Thank you for gathering all this evidence.
I’ll be careful.” She gathered the photographs and tucked them inside her bag.
She rose to her feet.
“I’ll leave now.” With that, she turned and walked out, her heart weighed down by a suffocating heaviness.
Nicholas remained seated, his gaze locked onto Ava’s retreating figure.
His fingers curled into tight fists as an icy determination settled over him.
“Ethan, your end is near.
Soon, I’ll destroy you completely.” ~~~~~~ Ava stepped through the doorway, the weight of her discovery pressing down on her like a crushing force.
Each step felt heavier than the last, her mind clouded with turmoil.
Dylan’s face lit up the moment he saw her, his lips parting in a smile.
But the joy was fleeting.
The smile on his face froze as soon as he noticed her pale face, his excitement vanishing.
He wheeled himself toward her, closing the distance between them.
“What happened to you?” he asked.
“Why are you so pale?” His gaze roamed over her features, searching for an answer.
Ava met his gaze-and in that instant, she crumbled.
Tears welled up in her eyes, sliding down her cheeks in silent agony.
Dylan’s chest tightened.
A flicker of panic crossed his face.
All rationality abandoned him.
He didn’t think-he just moved.
Forgetting about the weakness of his legs, he pushed himself up from the wheelchair.
His entire body trembled with the effort, his muscles protesting, but he refused to stop.
Ava gasped, horror flashing in her eyes.
“Dylan!
What are you doing?” But he had already reached her, pulling her into his arms.
Ava stiffened as he held her.
Then, a violent shiver ran down her spine.
He was standing.
Her heart pounded wildly.
“You’ll hurt yourself!” She gripped his arms and quickly guided him back into the wheelchair, her hands hovering over him anxiously.
“Are you in pain?” Her gaze flickered across his face, searching for signs of discomfort.
He shook his head, brushing her worries aside.
“I am fine, but I’m worried about you.” Dylan clasped her hands.
“What happened?
Tell me.” Ava’s lips quivered.
She lowered her gaze, trying to compose herself.
“I’m sorry for troubling you,” she whispered.
“I just€¦ I got emotional.” Dylan squeezed her hands gently.
“Ava,” he murmured.
“Tell me.
Please.
I’ll do anything to help you.” She sucked in a shaky breath, her fingers curling around his.
“It’s about my father,” she mumbled.
“I found out who tried to kill him.” Silence fell over the room.
His entire body went rigid, his mind a whirlwind of chaos.
The person who tried to kill Thomas was the one who had assassinated him in his past life.
It was the same person who had caused the accident of his parents back then.
“What did you find?” he asked, his voice thickening.
Ava wiped away her tears and reached into her bag.
With trembling fingers, she pulled out her phone and tapped the screen.
“Watch this.” She handed him the device.
“Doctor Mathew Fisher confessed that he was instructed to kill my father on the operating table.” Dylan’s eyes darkened as the video began playing.
He took the phone from her and checked the video.
On the screen, Mathew Fisher appeared-a broken man, his face drenched in regret.
“I became greedy€¦ I couldn’t refuse Lydia’s offer€¦ I agreed to help her€¦ I was supposed to kill Thomas on the operating table.” Dylan’s jaw locked.
He could hear his own blood pounding in his ears.
Lydia.
The name reverberated in his head.
“It’s her!” A slow, lethal growl rumbled in his throat.
His grip on the phone tightened.
