My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 303
Chapter 303: The warning Chapter 303: The warning Ethan’s face turned pale.
A cold shiver ran down his spine as Nicholas’s words sank in.
“What warning?” Nicholas’s smile was as sharp as a blade.
He leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper.
“I hope you’ve heard about Lydia.
Dylan sent her to jail.” Ethan felt his throat go dry.
Lydia?
In jail?
He had cut off all contact after leaving the city.
He had no idea what was going on with her.
“You don’t know!” Nicholas’s eyes gleamed with mock surprise.
“She didn’t call you for help, did she?” He tilted his head, feigning sympathy.
“Well, she probably couldn’t.
Dylan seized her bank accounts and properties€¦ she has nothing left.
She’ll be rotting in prison for the rest of her life.” “What?” Ethan exclaimed, his heart sinking with dread.
Had Dylan discovered the truth?
Had he found out that Lydia was responsible for his parents’ deaths?
These questions came to his mind almost immediately.
Nicholas’s expression turned unreadable.
“Yes, she did plenty to harm the Brooks family,” he said flatly.
“Jail is exactly where she belongs.” Ethan swallowed hard, his mind racing.
It turned out that the crime Lydia had hidden for all those years had finally been exposed.
What about her conspiracy to kill Thomas?
Had Dylan found out about it as well?
A fresh wave of chills pricked his back.
As if reading his thoughts, Nicholas leaned in closer, his voice dropping into something more chilling.
“She planned to kill Thomas back then.
Unfortunately for her, she ended up killing her own brother instead.
Such a shame€¦” He paused to gauge his reaction.
Observing Ethan’s pallid face, he was satisfied.

“Whoever was involved in her conspiracy is being hunted down.
Dr.
Mathew Fisher is already behind bars.
Now, the cops are after her daughter, Erica.
She was her partner in crime.” Ethan’s vision blurred for a moment, his body rigid with shock.
He felt a lump forming inside his throat, dread pulling his stomach.
If his connection to Lydia’s conspiracy came to light, he’d be in serious trouble.
Worse, Ava and Thomas would cut him off completely.
A cold sweat beaded on his forehead at the mere thought.
‘I need to destroy all the evidence that links me to Lydia before it’s too late.’ Nicholas watched him with quiet amusement, his gaze gleaming with dark satisfaction.
Ethan’s downfall had already begun.
“The cops are interrogating Lydia,” he said smoothly as if savoring every word.
“They’re trying to dig up every name, every accomplice.” Ethan shot him a wary glance, his breath uneven.
“Even the board members who dared to question Dylan’s ability to lead have been kicked out,” Nicholas continued.
“Their shares?
Gone.
Stripped away.” He chuckled.
“Dylan is furious, you see.
After all, he finally solved the mystery of his parents’ deaths.
He won’t spare anyone involved.” “Why are you telling me all this?” Ethan snapped, his irritation bubbling over.
“I don’t care what Dylan is doing.” Nicholas arched a brow, feigning surprise.
“Oh?
That’s odd.
I thought you were close to the Williams.
You should be worried, considering this whole mess started with a plan to kill Thomas.” He smirked.
“Aren’t you going to check on them?” That was it.
Ethan’s patience snapped.
He shot to his feet, glaring down at Nicholas.
“That’s none of your business!
I don’t owe you an explanation of who I met.
If you’re done looking around, I’ll take my leave.
I have more important things to deal with.” He strode away with brisk steps.
Nicholas watched Ethan’s retreating figure with a smirk, his gaze filled with cold amusement.
“You can’t you’re your crime forever, Ethan,” he murmured under his breath.
“I could have you locked up right now, but where is the fun in that?
I’d rather play with you a little longer.” A faint sound of approaching footsteps pulled him from his thoughts.
He turned his head and saw a man coming toward him-the same one who had served him coffee earlier.
The man stopped in front of him, his posture respectful, head slightly bowed.
“Mr.
Simpson is calling for you, sir.
The children are all gathered in the hall.
They are eager to see you.” Nicholas studied him for a moment, his mind already calculating.
He needed someone inside to keep a close eye on Ethan.
Initially, he planned to speak to Mr.
Simpson about it, but the director’s admiration for Ethan changed his mind.
Rising to his feet, Nicholas flashed a casual smile.
“What’s your name?” The man blinked in surprise but quickly responded, “Joe.” “Joe.
How long have you been working here?
Don’t take it the wrong way-I just didn’t see you the last time I was here.
A lot has changed since then, and I’m curious.” Nicholas’s sharp eyes never wavered from him.
“I grew up here,” Joe replied with a quiet sincerity.
“I left for the city to complete my graduation.
After that, I tried finding a job, but nothing worked out the way I hoped.
So, I decided to return and help Mr.
Simpson.
I’ve been working here for a few months now.” Nicholas hummed in understanding.
“I see.
What was your major?” “Finance.” “Hmm€¦” Nicholas hummed in thought, then reached into his pocket, pulling out a sleek business card.
He held it out between two fingers.
“Come to my office if you ever want a job.” Joe’s eyes widened in disbelief before his lips stretched into a broad grin.
“Thank you, sir!
This means a lot to me.
I really appreciate the opportunity.” Nicholas chuckled lightly, placing a firm hand on Joe’s shoulder.
“I’ve always been committed to helping the children here.
We’re family, after all.” His grip tightened slightly before he added in a lower, more serious tone, “But I need a favor from you.” Joe immediately straightened, his eagerness evident.
“Of course, sir.
What can I do for you?” Nicholas cast a glance around, ensuring no one was nearby, before leaning in slightly.
“That man, Ethan-he is not as harmless as he pretends to be.
I have reasons to believe he could be a threat to Mr.
Simpson and the orphanage.” Joe’s expression darkened, his initial excitement giving way to concern.
“Are you serious?” Nicholas nodded solemnly.
“I need you to keep an eye on him.
Watch his movements, his interactions-everything.
If you notice anything suspicious, you report it to me immediately.” “You have my word, sir.
I’ll make sure to update you on everything.” Nicholas smiled though a flicker of cunning gleamed in his eyes.
“I knew I could count on you.”
