My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 304
Chapter 304: Spying on Ethan Chapter 304: Spying on Ethan Late at night€¦ Ethan couldn’t sleep.
He turned from one side to the other, waiting for everyone to fall asleep.
Nicholas’s warning echoed in his mind, gnawing at his nerves like a relentless specter.
Beads of sweat clung to his skin.
With a frustrated sigh, he sat up, running a trembling hand across his damp forehead.
“I need to act fast.
I can’t wait for them to dig up the truth.” Ethan’s mind raced through the possibilities.
Running was his only option.
He had the money-more than enough to start over somewhere far away, somewhere no one knew his name.
He still had the house gifted to him by the Williams.
Selling it would give him a fresh start.
“I’ll start a business on my own,” he murmured.
“Nicholas won’t be able to mock me again.
But before that, I need to do this.” His resolve hardened.
He threw aside the blanket and moved toward his suitcase.
Kneeling, he unzipped it and reached into the side pocket, fingers brushing against something small and cold.
The vial.
He pulled it out, holding it up against the dim light.
The liquid inside was clear.
It was the poison Lydia had given him.
“This is the last piece of evidence.” His grip on the vial firmed.
“Once it’s gone, even if Lydia tries to drag me down, she won’t have a single shred of proof.” He exhaled slowly, steadying his nerves, then crept out of his room.
The hallway was pitch-dark, the air thick with an eerie stillness.
Not a single light flickered.
Outside, the world was cloaked in silence, save for the rhythmic chirping of crickets and the distant howls of stray dogs.
Ethan moved swiftly; his footsteps muffled against the cool ground.
He kept glancing over his shoulder, his heart pounding as if the night itself was watching him.
He reached the trash bin at the edge of the road, his fingers tightening around the vial one last time.
After making sure no one was around, he uncorked it and poured the clear liquid into the garbage, letting it seep into the filth below.
His lips curled into a victorious smirk.

“No one will ever trace it back to me.” With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the empty vial into the bin.
He looked around one last time before slipping into the building, unaware that someone lurked in the shadows, watching his every action closely.
Joe had been waiting in the dark hallway, biding his time.
His heart had raced with excitement at the idea of uncovering Ethan’s secrets.
Initially, he had planned to slip into Ethan’s room and snoop around.
But when he saw Ethan sneaking out, suspicion coiled in his gut, and he followed him out.
When Ethan stopped by the trash bin, Joe ducked behind a tree.
Holding up his phone, he started recording.
As soon as Ethan vanished into the building, Joe’s fingers darted over his phone, dialing Nicholas’s number.
The call rang for a while before a groggy voice answered.
“Hello?” “Sir, it’s Joe.
Sorry for calling so late, but I just saw something suspicious.
Ethan snuck out of his room and discarded something in the trash bin.
I recorded everything-I’m sending it to you now.” His fingers moved swiftly across the screen, and within moments, the video was on its way.
“Take a look.” Nicholas squinted at his phone, his frown deepening as the video played.
The clip clearly showed Ethan tossing a small vial.
‘What is he getting rid of at this hour?’ A prickle of unease ran down Nicholas’s spine.
Something about this felt off.
Too deliberate.
Lifting the phone back to his ear, he spoke with urgency.
“Well done, Joe.
Now, listen carefully.
You need to retrieve that vial-immediately.
Do not touch it with your bare hands.
Use gloves if you have any.” Joe’s pulse quickened with excitement.
“I have gloves,” he assured him.
“Good.
Pick it up and bring it to me.” “Understood, sir.
I’ll bring it to you first thing in the morning.” Ending the call, Joe inhaled deeply, his adrenaline surging.
With quiet, careful steps, he slipped back inside the orphanage, making his way toward the small storage room where cleaning supplies were kept.
Slipping on the gloves, he steeled himself for the task ahead.
On the other end, Nicholas sat in silence, his expression growing darker.
“What are you trying to destroy, Ethan?” The next day€¦ When Nicholas arrived at the office, Alex approached him.
“Sir, a man named Joe from the orphanage has been waiting in the lounge to see you.” “Bring him to my office.” “Right away, sir.” Alex nodded and left.
Lowering himself into his leather chair, Nicholas braced himself for whatever Joe had brought.
Moments later, the door swung open, and Alex ushered Joe inside.
Joe approached the desk with a polite yet eager smile.
“Good morning, sir.” He carefully pulled a small, clear pouch from his pocket and placed it on the polished surface.
“This is what I retrieved from the trash bin.” Nicholas’s fingers closed around the pouch as he lifted it for inspection.
Through the transparent plastic, he could see a small amount of clear liquid still remaining inside the vial.
His eyes narrowed.
“Alex.” He turned to his assistant, extending the pouch.
“Send this for examination immediately.
I want to know exactly what was inside.” Alex took the pouch with a curt nod.
Nicholas then shifted his attention back to Joe.
“Thank you, Joe.
You did an excellent job.” Turning back to Alex, he added, “Inform HR to hire him in the Finance department.” Joe’s mouth fell open in shock.
“You’re hiring me?” His voice wavered with disbelief and excitement.
“Of course, Joe.
I don’t go back on my word.” Joe’s face lit up.
“Thank you, sir!
Thank you so much!
I promise to work hard and never give you a reason to regret this.” Nicholas nodded, satisfied.
“Good.
Alex, assist him with the hiring process.” Alex gave a slight bow, then gestured for Joe to follow him.
Left alone, Nicholas leaned back in his chair, his fingers lacing together.
‘Now, let’s see what secrets Ethan was so desperate to erase.’ Ring-Ring-Ring€¦ The sharp trilling of his phone suddenly cut through the silence.
Nicholas glanced at the screen.
His brows lifted slightly in surprise when he saw the name flashing-Dylan.
“Why is he calling me?” A flicker of curiosity stirred in his chest.
He picked up the phone and swiped to answer.
“Hello?” “Can we meet?” Dylan’s serious voice came through, making Nicholas even more puzzled.
“I’ve got something to tell you.
It’s urgent.” “Okay€¦” Nicholas sat up straighter, his mind racing.
“Where do you want to meet?” For a brief moment, there was silence on the other end of the line.
Then Dylan’s voice returned.
“I’ll send you the address.” The call ended before Nicholas could respond.
“Huh?” He pulled the phone away from his ear, staring at it with narrowed eyes.
“What the hell just happened?”
