My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 309
Chapter 309: Lydia€™s phone call Chapter 309: Lydia€™s phone call Ava’s brows shot up in surprise.
“A nightmare?” She tilted her head, taken aback.
Dylan nodded.
Actually, he was telling the truth.
Through his nightmares, he realized he had been reborn.
“In that nightmare,” he continued, “I saw myself hurting you-in ways I can’t even begin to describe.” His throat tightened as the images flashed before his eyes-her pain, her suffering, her tragic end.
Ava’s fingers slackened in his grasp, her pulse quickening.
His insides clenched in nervousness when he saw the change in her expression.
But he had already decided to tell her everything.
Taking a steadying breath, Dylan pushed forward.
“By the time I realized my mistakes, it was already too late.
You-” he faltered for a moment before forcing himself to continue, “You left me.” Steeling his heart, he added, “I saw you€¦ lying there.
Covered in blood.
Motionless in the hall.” A chill raced down her spine, her mind reeling.
He was describing her past-her death.
But how?
How could he see something he had never witnessed?
Could it truly be just a nightmare?
Or was it something more?
“I regretted everything,” Dylan went on, his grip on her hand tightening as if afraid she would slip away.
“I realized what my vengeance had cost me.
And then€¦ I learned the truth.
Thomas wasn’t responsible for the accident.
It was someone else-the same person who poisoned me.
The one who killed me.” Ava jerked back as if struck.
Her heart pounded violently against her ribs.
The fear in her chest coiled tighter.
“Enough,” she burst out.
“That’s a horrible nightmare.
I don’t want to hear anymore.” “I won’t talk about those awful things,” he comforted her gently.

“I know it’s disturbing.
But that nightmare-it changed me.
It made me realize just how much you meant to me.
I knew then, more than anything, that I could never lose you again.” He took a breather.
“That nightmare also made me question everything.
What if Thomas was truly innocent?
What if someone else had been pulling the strings from the shadows?
That doubt-it wouldn’t let me rest.
So, I started looking deeper, reinvestigating the accident.
And piece by piece, the truth started to emerge.” Ava swallowed hard, her entire body rigid with tension.
“I found out Thomas wasn’t guilty,” Dylan finished.
“But the real culprit€¦ was still hidden in the dark.” As Ava listened to him, she realized why Dylan had changed-why his cold indifference had melted into something more desperate, more determined.
It turned out that some troublesome nightmares had worked as the catalyst.
“You mean€¦ if it weren’t for those nightmares, you never would have realized my worth?” Her sharp gaze bore into him, searching for honesty.
Dylan let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head.
“No, Ava.
I fell for you long ago.
I was just too stubborn to admit it.
But when I finally accepted it, I realized how much I had wronged you.
I wanted to make up for everything.
So, I started looking into the people who hurt you.
That’s when I saw how pathetic their games truly were.” A smirk played on his lips as he recalled the moment Gianna had been exposed.
Ava’s triumphant expression back then had been seared into his mind.
“I gathered the evidence against Gianna and made sure you had everything you needed to bring her down.” “Wait-what?” Her voice rose with disbelief.
“That was you?” She had always thought Nicholas had been the one to help her expose Gianna.
How could it have been Dylan all along?
“But€¦ why didn’t you tell me?” she wondered, struggling to grasp the truth.
Dylan exhaled.
“I didn’t want the credit.
I just wanted to see you happy, to see you get the justice you deserved.
Besides, back then, you hated me.
You wouldn’t even speak to me.
And above all€¦ you thought Nicholas was the one who helped you.” Ava bit her lip, a hint of embarrassment flickering across her face.
She had been so sure that Nicholas was the one who had gathered evidence against Gianna.
And it wasn’t just that one time-on multiple occasions, she had unknowingly given him credit for things Dylan had done.
As time passed, she had come to realize just how much Dylan had done for her, how hard he had fought to earn her forgiveness.
The bitterness she once held in her heart had long since faded.
The misunderstandings were gone, the truth had unraveled, and the real culprit had been exposed.
What remained between them now was pure love.
Ava was contented and satisfied that they had reconciled, letting go of the bitter past and embracing the promising future.
But she hid her delight and pretended to be upset.
“Well, it’s not my fault,” she huffed.
“You never told me!
How was I supposed to know?
Besides, Nicholas did save me from those thugs, remember?
It made sense for me to assume he was the one who helped me.” Dylan didn’t argue-he had no right to.
She was right.
He had kept the truth from her.
“You’re right,” he admitted.
“I should have been more open with you.
I’m still learning, still trying to be better.” Holding her hands, he smiled.
“No more secrets, I promise.” Ava’s heart melted at his words.
She gazed at him for a moment before smiling back.
“No more secrets,” she echoed, giving his hands a light squeeze.
Dylan’s grin widened.
“Good.
Now, let’s eat before the food gets cold.” Ava laughed softly and nodded, moving behind his wheelchair.
With a gentle push, she guided him toward the table, their hearts lighter than ever before.
~~~~~~~~~~ Ethan was just about to leave after finalizing the house sale when his phone rang, stopping him in his tracks.
He pulled it from his pocket and frowned at the unfamiliar number flashing on the screen.
“Who is it?” he wondered.
After a moment of hesitation, he answered the call.
“Hello?” A sharp voice cut through the line.
“It’s me, Lydia.” “Lydia?” A surprised exclamation escaped his mouth.
His grip on the phone tightened as he scanned his surroundings, suddenly wary.
He quickly strode toward a secluded corridor, putting distance between himself and prying ears.
Lowering his voice, he demanded, “Aren’t you in jail?
How are you calling me?
And why?” “I don’t have time for explanations,” Lydia snapped.
“I need your help.” Ethan let out a dry chuckle with mockery.
“Help?
Seriously?” He scoffed.
“Why the hell would I help you?
You want me to land in jail alongside you?” “If you don’t help me, I’ll make sure you go down with me,” Lydia snapped back.
“Don’t forget you were also involved in the conspiracy€¦” “Shut up,” he snarled, cutting her short.
His nostrils flared.
“You have no proof.
You can’t pin anything on me.” “Oh, but I can.” Her voice oozed with confidence.
“All I have to do is say your name, and you’ll be dragged into this mess.
Dylan already despises you, and Ava€¦ well, she doesn’t trust you anymore.
No one will believe a word you say.
And let’s not forget-I still have those recordings of our little conversations.
So don’t even think about betraying me, Ethan.”
