My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 317
Chapter 317: The fake news Chapter 317: The fake news “Ava,” he grimaced.
“Do you think I haven’t been looking into this?
I’ve already gathered plenty of evidence against him.
I was preparing to have him locked away.
Why did you risk meeting him alone-knowing exactly what kind of man he is?
You are pregnant, for God’s sake.” Ava lowered her head.
She had no defense, no excuse.
She had been reckless.
And if Dylan’s guard hadn’t arrived in time, she could have been kidnapped today.
The chilling thought of being trapped in Ethan’s grasp, at his mercy, sent a shudder through her.
“Can you be a little more faithful to me?” He tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze.
“Let me handle these problems, Ava.
I need you to be safe-for me.” “I am sorry,” she whispered, embarrassed.
“I just€¦ I wanted to help.
I wanted to share the burden.” “Of course, you can share the burden,” he murmured, brushing his thumb lightly against her cheek.
“But you have to tell me.
Don’t ever do something like this again-without letting me know.” He pulled her into his arms, holding her close.
Ava let out a small hum, melting into his embrace.
~~~~~~~~~~~ The news of Nicholas’s demise crashed over the city like a tidal wave, leaving devastation in its wake.
The corporate world stood still, mourning the loss of a promising young businessman.
For Ava, the blow was unbearable.
It struck her like a violent storm, shaking her to her core.
Just two days ago, she had seen him-alive, hopeful, fighting.
And now, he was gone.
“No€¦ This is not true,” she sobbed, her breath hitching.
“After everything he went through€¦ after finally finding a donor€¦ how could he die?” “Calm down,” Dylan tried to comfort her, but Ava wouldn’t listen.
Tears spilled freely down her cheeks, her body shaking as she clutched at his arms, desperate.
“He was fine two days ago, hopeful that he would be okay after the surgery,” she sniveled, her voice cracking.
“How could the surgery fail?” Her mind refused to accept the reality.
It didn’t make sense.
It couldn’t be real.
“I need to see him,” she pleaded and tugged at his sleeves.
“Take me to the hospital.
Please, Dylan€¦ Take me there!” Dylan’s features tensed.
He couldn’t tell her the truth.
He had given Nicholas his word-to keep his disappearance a secret.
To let the world believe he was gone.
“Ava, listen to me.
You need to calm down.
Don’t cry.
It’s fate.
There is nothing we can do.” “No!” she cried, shaking her head violently.
“I don’t believe it!
He promised me-he promised me he would be there when my baby was born.
How could he leave me?
How could he-” Before she could complete the sentence, she fainted.
“Ava,” Dylan cried out.
Panic surged through him.
“Ava!” He shook her, but she didn’t respond.
Her body was limp in his arms, her breathing shallow.
“Don’t scare me.
Open your eyes.” He tapped her cheeks.
But she didn’t respond.
“Fuck€¦” His hands scrambled for his phone, fingers unsteady as he dialed the doctor.
“Doctor, please come to my place immediately.
Something is wrong with Ava.
Please-just get here fast.” Ending the call, he turned back to her and carefully laid her down on the sofa.
“What should I do?” His mind raced, his chest tightening with helplessness.
“Martha€¦” From the backyard, Martha heard the distress in his tone and rushed inside.
Her eyes widened in alarm when she saw Ava lying unconscious.
“Good heavens!
What happened?” “Do something.
Wake her up.” Martha gasped, hurrying to the kitchen.
She returned moments later with a bowl of water and a cloth, her hands trembling as she splashed cool water onto Ava’s face.
Ava whimpered softly, her brows knitting together.
Dylan exhaled in relief.
“Ava€¦” he called gently, his voice full of worry.
She stirred, her lips parting slightly.
“Uhm€¦ I feel dizzy€¦” she mumbled weakly.
“Don’t move,” he soothed, brushing a few damp strands of hair from her face.
“The doctor is on the way.” Ava winced, pressing her fingers against her brow.
Her head throbbed.
“Martha, bring some juice for her,” Dylan ordered without looking away from Ava.
Martha nodded and quickly hurried back to the kitchen.
Within minutes, she returned with a glass of fresh lime juice.
“Madam, I brought some juice for you.
Please drink a little.” “Give it to me.” Dylan took the glass from her.
“Ava, drink some juice,” he coaxed gently.
Ava didn’t open her eyes.
She was still dizzy.
“I don’t want it.” “You need to,” he insisted softly, his free hand stroking her hair.
“Just a sip.” Ava turned her head slightly, resisting.
Dylan exhaled deeply, placing the glass on the table.
With a small nod, he signaled Martha to leave, and the latter slipped away quietly.
Once they were alone, Dylan took her hand in his, his thumb brushing lightly over her skin.
“Nicholas is not dead,” he said softly, unable to bear watching her suffer any longer.
“What?” Ava’s eyes fluttered open despite the dizziness weighing her down.
“Are you telling the truth?” He gave a firm nod.
“Yes.
He faked his death.” Ava blinked rapidly, trying to process his words.
“Faked?” she echoed.
“Why would he do that?” She cast him a skeptical look.
“Are you saying this just to comfort me?
You’re not lying, are you?” Dylan’s gaze never wavered.
“I am not lying.
Nicholas is alive.
The news of his death was necessary-to throw his enemies off track.” He inhaled and added, “Luke planned to kill him during the surgery.
I found out by chance.
So, Nicholas and I orchestrated everything to make his enemies believe he didn’t survive.” The revelation left Ava reeling from shock and relief.
She was shocked to learn that Nicholas’s half-brother wanted to kill him and that Dylan had known all along €“ even had worked with Nicholas, the one who he never liked to be friendly.
But at the same time, she was relieved that he was fine.
“Where is he now?” she asked.
Dylan hesitated for a moment before answering.
“I can’t tell you that.
But trust me-he is in good hands.
The surgery was a success.
He is safe.” Ava’s body relaxed slightly, the weight of grief finally lifting from her chest.
But she pouted as if upset with him.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” she whined.
“You almost gave me a heart attack.” Dylan’s lips twitched as if he wanted to smile, but his eyes remained shadowed.
“Nicholas asked me to keep it a secret.
But I didn’t expect you to react like this.” A heavy silence fell between them.
Ava felt a pang in her chest as she caught the flicker of pain in his gaze.
And it was because of her.
She regretted losing her composer.
She parted her lips to say something-anything-to ease his worries.
But before she could, Dylan’s voice sliced through the quiet.
“You like him, don’t you?”
