Chapter 318: No one can save you.
Ava’s heart sank at his words, and she quickly shook her head.
“Of course, I like him.
But not in the way you’re thinking.” She looked up at him, her eyes pleading for him to understand.
“Nicholas is a good man€¦ a good friend.
I don’t want to lose him.” Dylan’s fingers slowly uncurled from hers, pulling away.
A small, almost imperceptible distance formed between them.
Her reassurance did little to soothe the ache in his heart.
Ava was his wife-the woman he loved more than anything in this world.
He wanted her undivided attention.
But hearing her concern for another man, even if it wasn’t romantic, still left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Ava hated seeing that look on his face.
She slowly sat up, inching toward him.
She wrapped her arm around his and dropped her head on his shoulder.
“But the man I love is you €“ only you,” she murmured.
“My heart belongs to you.
No one else can be my man but you.” Dylan let out a slow breath, the tension melting from his body.
A small, relieved smile formed on his lips.
He glanced down and held her chin, making her meet his gaze.
“You said this€¦” Ava reached up, cupping his cheek, her thumb brushing over his skin tenderly.
“I loved you, then hated you.
I fell in love with you all over again.
My life revolves around you.
No one can make me laugh and cry at the same time.
It’s you.
It has always been you.” The doubts in his heart melted away.
His expression softened.
“I love you, Ava,” he whispered.
“I’ll never hurt you again.” His lips captured hers in a kiss-gentle yet consuming, slow yet intoxicating.

He poured every ounce of love and devotion into it.
Ava melted into him, her hands gripping his shirt, pulling him closer as if she could sink into him completely.
Just as the kiss deepened, the sharp chime of the doorbell shattered the moment.
Dylan groaned, his body tensing in frustration.
He reluctantly pulled back and rested his forehead against hers.
“It might be the doctor.
Stay here.
I’ll go check.” His hands lingered on her waist before he finally stepped away.
Dylan opened the door to find a middle-aged doctor standing with his medical bag in hand.
He stepped aside, motioning for him to enter.
“She fainted a few minutes ago,” he said with an unmistakable edge of worry, leading the doctor toward the living room.
“She was extremely emotional and distressed before it happened.” Ava gave the doctor a weak smile as he approached.
“How are you feeling now, Mrs.
Brooks?” the doctor asked gently, sitting beside her and reaching for her wrist to check her pulse.
“A little dizzy.
But I’m fine now.” The doctor nodded and proceeded with his examination.
He checked her blood pressure.
“She is weak,” the doctor finally said, turning to Dylan.
“Her blood pressure is low.
Stress and exhaustion could be the cause.
She needs rest and no unnecessary emotional turmoil.” Then, he handed Dylan a prescription.
“This will help with dizziness and fatigue.
Make sure she eats something light before taking it.” Dylan took the prescription and nodded firmly.
“I’ll make sure of that.” The doctor packed up his things and stood.
“If she experiences extreme dizziness, nausea, or anything unusual, call me immediately.” After seeing the doctor out, Dylan returned to Ava and sat beside her.
He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her against him.
“Did you hear what the doctor said?” he murmured, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
“No more stress.” “No more stress,” Ava repeated, resting her cheek against his chest.
~~~~~~~~~ After partying at the club, Luke finally returned to his penthouse late at night.
His steps were a bit unsteady as he stumbled in.
“Stop right there.” The sharp command rang through the space, cutting through his hazy thoughts like a blade.
Luke halted mid-step, his sluggish mind struggling to register the familiar voice.
His gaze snapped to the plush sofa near the fireplace, where a rigid figure sat, barely visible in the dim lighting.
He recognized him.
It was his father.
Elijah’s unexpected presence in his place stunned him.
“Dad?” he muttered, rubbing his temple as if that would ease the throbbing in his skull.
“Why are you here?” Elijah’s glare was piercing.
“You have the nerve to ask me that?” His voice thundered through the room, thick with rage.
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” Luke sighed, too exhausted-and too drunk-to deal with his father’s lectures.
He waved a dismissive hand.
“Not now, Dad.
I’m tired.
My head is killing me.
Let’s talk tomorrow.” He stepped toward his bedroom.
But Elijah wasn’t finished.
“Luke, you fool.
You conspired to kill Nicholas.” He jumped to his feet.
“How could you do such a stupid thing?” Elijah’s words struck like a whip, slicing through the drunken haze clouding Luke’s mind.
His entire body went rigid as he turned sharply, his bloodshot eyes locking onto his father’s.
A flicker of shock crossed his face.
He thought it was a secret between him and that doctor.
How did his father find out about it?
“How did you know?” Elijah’s expression froze.
He had only been grasping at suspicion, hoping his son wasn’t foolish enough to cross a line that couldn’t be undone.
But Luke’s reaction confirmed it.
“You really planned to kill your brother!” “He is not my brother!” Luke exploded, his voice reverberating through the room.
His hands balled into fists at his sides, his eyes blazing with defiance.
“Stop calling him that!
He is nothing to me!” In a flash, Elijah raised his hand and slapped him.
The force sent Luke staggering backward.
His hand instinctively flew to his stinging cheek, feeling the metallic taste of blood.
“You hit me €“ for that bastard.” He glared at his father.
“Are you seriously mourning him?” Elijah’s glare was unwavering, his face etched with disappointment and fury.
“How could I give birth to such a foolish man?” he groaned.
“Do you even understand what you’ve done?
What kind of mess you’ve dragged yourself into?” Luke swallowed hard, but his pride wouldn’t let him falter.
“I covered my tracks.
No one knows.” “You fool.
Alex already suspects foul play.
Dr.
Ross is in police custody, and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks under interrogation.
If that happens, you are finished.” Luke’s blood ran cold.
A sharp shiver coursed down his spine as reality sank in.
He had been so careful about his plan.
How could Alex suspect him?
His entire body stiffened, his mind racing.
“No,” he murmured, shaking his head in denial.
“That’s impossible.
I was careful.
No one could’ve traced it back to me.” Elijah sneered.
“You still think your pathetic plan was foolproof?
Wake up, Luke.
You’re standing on the edge of a cliff, and if Dr.
Ross talks, you’ll be thrown off without a second thought.
Not even I can save you then.”
