My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 322
Chapter 322: The Escape Chapter 322: The Escape At the hospital€¦ In the late hours of the night, a nurse approached the room where Lydia was kept.
Outside the room, the lone policeman slumped in his chair, head tilted to the side, lost in sleep.
He didn’t stir when she quietly approached, her face partially obscured by a surgical mask.
Her footsteps were light, almost soundless, as she slipped past the door and into the room.
Her gaze landed on Lydia lying motionless, her chest rising and falling with shallow breaths.
Tears filled her eyes when she saw her face covered with bruises.
With trembling fingers, she reached down and gently tapped Lydia’s shoulder.
“Mom,” she whispered.
“Mom, it’s me, Erica.” Lydia stirred, her swollen eyes fluttering open.
Confusion flickered across her bruised face as she struggled to focus.
Erica slowly pulled down her mask, revealing her face.
“It’s me.” “Erica!” Lydia’s heart sank, disbelief and fear etched into every line of her face.
The faint clicks of the closing door snapped the policeman out of his slumber.
He jerked upright, heart racing with the sharp instinct that something was off.
His eyes darted toward Lydia’s room.
Without wasting a second, he pushed the door open.
Inside, a nurse stood by the bed.
“What are you doing here?” the officer barked, stepping forward with suspicion etched into his furrowed brow.
“Why are you in the room this late?” Erica’s heart pounded, but she quickly composed herself.
She quickly pulled up her mask and turned to him.
“I’m here to give her the last dose of painkillers for the night,” she said, holding up an injection.
The officer’s gaze flickered from Erica to Lydia, narrowing in doubt.
Lydia let out a strained groan, shifting in bed with a wince.
Her face contorted in feigned agony.
“Officer,” she rasped, “please€¦ let her do her job.
My body feels like it’s breaking apart.” The policeman hesitated, studying both women for a long moment.
Finally, he exhaled sharply.
“Fine.
But make it quick.” He crossed his arms, planting himself firmly inside the room.
If he didn’t leave, her plan would fail.

Thinking fast, she glanced at the syringe and then back at him.
“I’ll need you to step outside,” she said calmly.
“Why?
You are only giving her an injection.
What’s the problem if I stay here?” “The injection has to be administered on her lower back.
I also need to check her wounds.” He sized her up, suspicion flickering across his face.
But after a beat, he grunted.
“Whatever.
Just get it done.” He turned and stepped out, the door closing behind him with a dull thud.
Erica breathed a sigh, her hand flying to her chest.
Lydia’s bruised hand shot out, gripping Erica’s tightly.
“Why did you come here?” she hissed, her gaze moving to the door.
“If the cops find out who you are, they’ll lock you up without hesitation.
Leave now, Erica.
Don’t risk it.” “I’m not leaving without you,” Erica whispered fiercely.
“Mr.
Blair is waiting outside.
The escape plan is already in motion.” “It wasn’t supposed to be you,” Lydia rasped.
“I told him to send someone experienced for this job.
Why did you come yourself?” “Because I had to,” Erica shot back.
“There is no one I trust more.
Now stop wasting time.” She slung a small carrying bag onto the bed.
“I brought a nurse’s uniform for you.
Change into this, fast.” “But what about that policeman outside?” Lydia asked hesitantly.
“I’ll deal with him.
Now get ready.” After a beat of hesitation, Lydia gave a curt nod.
She slipped out of the bed, grimacing as pain rippled through her bruised limbs.
Clutching the bag, she padded quietly into the bathroom.
Erica exhaled, running a hand down her face to steady her nerves.
“I can do this.” Steeling her nerves, she grabbed the tray from the side table and strode toward the door.
Just as she crossed the threshold, she stumbled deliberately, the tray slipping from her hands.
Metal instruments clattered against the floor.
“Ah!
I’m so sorry,” she mumbled, quickly dropping to her knees to pick up the scattered items.
The policeman sighed, clearly annoyed but obliging.
“Be careful next time,” he muttered, crouching down to help her.
His attention was locked on the mess before him, unaware of her intention.
Erica looked at him through the corners of her eyes and reached into her pocket.
Heart hammering in her chest, she pulled a syringe out and jabbed the needle into the side of his neck.
“What the-” His eyes widened in shock as the sedative hit his bloodstream.
He jerked, his hand flying to his neck.
Rage contorted his face as he lunged for her throat, but Erica scrambled backward, her shoulder slamming into the closed door.
His movements grew sluggish, strength ebbing from his limbs.
He blinked rapidly before his eyes rolled back and his body gave in.
With a dull thud, he collapsed, unconscious.
Erica sat frozen, chest heaving, the empty syringe still clenched in her trembling hand.
Lydia, now dressed in the white nurse’s uniform, stepped out of the room and froze.
Her gaze flickered to the unconscious officer sprawled on the cold floor, then to Erica, who was still trembling there.
“Get up,” she hissed, grabbing Erica’s arm and yanking her to her feet.
“We don’t have time for this.
We need to leave-now.” Erica blinked, snapping out of her daze.
Pulling out a surgical mask from her pocket, she thrusted it toward her mother.
“Here.
Put this on.” Lydia put the mask on.
“Let’s go.” They sneaked out of the hospital, keeping their heads low and avoiding the surveillance cameras.
After some time, the policeman regained his consciousness.
He groaned, feeling the cold linoleum beneath his cheek.
Disoriented, he blinked rapidly, only to feel a dull ache radiating from the side of his neck.
His hand flew to the spot, memories rushing back like a crashing wave.
“That bitch,” he growled, staggering to his feet.
“She tricked me.” He stumbled into the room, his heart sinking as his gaze swept across the empty bed.
A chill ran down his spine.
“Fuck,” he cursed under his breath.
“She escaped.” Yanking out his phone, he called the station.
“Sir!” he barked the moment the call connected.
“Lydia escaped.
The nurse-she helped her.
They’re gone.”
