Chapter 34: An attack on Ava
Ava left the office at the end of the day, hoping to go to the hospital and check on Gianna before heading home. Just as she came to the parking lot, a group of women rushed over her, their expressions clouding with wrath.
“You’re the one who bullied our queen, Gianna!” one of them shouted.
Ava’s heart raced, panic tightening in her chest. She had never seen these women before, but the hostility radiating from them was terrifying. These women seemed to be Gianna’s crazy fans, and Ava had no idea who had misinformed them about it.
“There must have been some misunderstandings,” she tried to explain herself, taking a hesitant step back as they closed in on her. “I didn’t bully her!”
“Really?” another woman sneered, stepping forward with a menacing glint in her eyes. “We saw you bullying her and her boyfriend. It’s all over on social media.” She brandished her phone, displaying a recording of Ava arguing with Dylan and slapping him.
“This is not the only thing. “And we have information that you hired some goons to harass her! She was beaten so brutally that she ended up in the hospital!”
The group encircled her, their expressions a mix of fury and determination. “And now we will teach you a lesson for messing with our queen.”
Ava felt the walls closing in, her breath quickening. She could feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins, a desperate need to escape this hostile situation. “I didn’t hire anyone. These are all lies,” Ava tried to explain, but they didn’t listen to her.
They attacked her together, slapping and tugging at her hair fiercely. The blows landed with brutal force, and before Ava could react, a heavy shove sent her crashing to the ground on all fours. The cold pavement bit into her palms, but the real pain came when one of the attackers stomped down on her hand, pinning it to the ground.
The pain shot up her arm, and Ava winced, her fingers trembling under the pressure. Without lifting her foot, the woman crouched down and tugged at Ava’s hair once more. “Because of you, she is hurt. Now, you have to face the consequences.” With that, she delivered a sharp slap that left Ava’s face stinging.
Ava tasted blood in her mouth. Tears filled her eyes, but her fear soon transformed into rage. She understood it was a targeted attack. She remembered Erica’s warning and doubted it was her doing.
“Who sent you?” Ava growled through clenched teeth. “Who gave you the wrong information?”
“We don’t owe you any answers,” one of them sneered, as another kick landed in her side, knocking the wind out of her.
The rest of the group joined in, striking from all directions. Ava’s body twisted in agony as blows rained down on her, her vision blurring with pain. She tried to fight back, swinging her arms and kicking her legs, but they overwhelmed her. No matter how hard she tried, their combined strength was too much to fend off.
A car rolled into the parking area in the meantime and the attackers left her alone and fled, disappearing soon. Ava gasped in shock and pain, wincing. Her clothes were disheveled, her face bruised and swollen, and her breath came in ragged gasps as she tried to steady herself.
Dylan, who had just arrived, jumped out of the car and rushed to her side, his heart lurching at the sight of her injuries. “Ava!” he called out in a frenzy as he dropped to a squat beside her, his hands gently gripping her shoulders. His eyes scanned her bruised face and arms, darkening with fury.
“Who are they?” he growled. “Why did they attack you?”
Ava’s lips curled into a bitter sneer as she shoved his hands away, glaring at him with a mixture of hurt and disdain. “Don’t you know why?” she spat. “Your beloved Gianna—she has got an army of fanatics who worship her. It only takes one rumor, one piece of misinformation, for them to lash out. And guess who they blame for her suffering? Me. They came to take revenge on me.”
“Misinformation? Revenge?” Dylan narrowed his eyes as he tried to process her words. “Who could spread the misinformation like that?”
“Stop pretending like you don’t know anything!” Ava snapped with contempt. She pushed herself to her feet despite the sharp pain that shot through her body. She wobbled slightly, and Dylan instinctively reached out to steady her. But she swatted his hand away with a fierce slap.
“This is nothing new, Dylan,” she said contemptuously. “Gianna and Erica have always been bullying me over the past year, but you never bothered to pay attention to it.”
Dylan’s face fell, guilt flashing briefly in his eyes. He opened his mouth to speak, but Ava cut him off, “You knew they were bullying me! You knew how much they’ve hurt me, how they made my life hell, but you did nothing to stop them. You let them treat your wife like dirt!”
Her gaze turned even sharper as she recalled Dylan had turned a blind eye while Gianna had made Mr. Moore drug her. His sudden concern now felt like salt in a fresh wound, and it only fueled her anger.
“Your apathy towards me is what encouraged them to keep treating me like this!” she snarled. “You’ve cared more about your mistress than your own wife. And now you’re here, acting like you don’t know a thing about who has been bullying me!”
She curled her lips into a painful smile. “The pain from them is nothing compared to what you’ve put me through, Dylan. I don’t need your sympathy.” She turned and limped toward her car, her body aching in every part.
Before Ava could take more than a few steps, Dylan grabbed her arm, halting her in her tracks. “You are coming with me,” he commanded.
“I am not going anywhere with you,” she protested. But he didn’t listen to her. With a swift motion, he scooped her up in his arms and strode to his car. “You are injured, and I am taking you to the hospital.”
“Leave me alone!” she exclaimed, twisting and squirming in his grasp. “I don’t need your care!”
Dylan remained undeterred. His hands were firm as he maneuvered her into the car, placing her in the passenger seat.

“Let go of me, you bastard!” she yelled, shoving against him in a futile attempt to break free.
Dylan caught her wrists and pinned them against the seat above her head, leaning in close. His face hovered just an inch from hers, their breaths mingling.
“If you don’t stop struggling, I’ll make sure you can’t lift your hands at all,” he warned, a chill in his voice. His lips nearly brushed against hers.
