My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 340
Chapter 340: The baby€™s movement Chapter 340: The baby€™s movement Nicholas’s grip tightened slightly on the steering wheel.
His heart thumped.
This was the same question she had asked before.
At the time, Dylan and Ava’s sudden arrival had saved him from answering.
But now-Now, it was just them.
Alone in the car.
He couldn’t escape without answering.
He swallowed, feeling the cold prick of sweat along his back.
“About that€¦” He exhaled slowly, choosing his words carefully.
“I haven’t thought of dating anyone before.
I don’t know€¦” “I see,” Myra murmured.
Her face fell.
Her initial excitement dimmed.
She looked away, her fingers tightening in her lap.
“It’s okay,” she said quickly, forcing a small smile.
“I overstepped my boundaries.
Don’t think about it.
Consider you haven’t heard it.” Nicholas felt the weight of her disappointment, and it unsettled him.
It shouldn’t have.
They had only met a few hours ago-she shouldn’t have been able to affect him this much.
But she did.
For the first time in a long while, Nicholas found himself struggling with uncertainty.
“I haven’t rejected the idea,” he said.
Myra’s head snapped up, her eyes widening slightly.
“It’s just€¦” He sighed.
“I’m confused right now.
Give me some time.” A flicker of hope lit up in Myra’s chest.
She had expected him to outright refuse.
But instead€¦ he had asked for time.
That meant she still had a chance.

She smiled.
Nicholas wasn’t unreachable.
“Come to my office tomorrow,” he added, shifting gears smoothly.
“We’ll discuss the script.” Myra beamed.
This was it-her chance to carve her name in his heart.
Silently, she made a promise to herself.
‘I’ll make you fall for me, Nicholas.’ At Dylan’s mansion€¦ Dylan finally slipped into the bed, wrapping an arm around Ava.
“Are they gone?” Ava asked quietly.
“Hmm,” he hummed, pressing his nose against her hair, inhaling the familiar, soothing scent of home.
Ava shifted slightly, turning to face him.
“I was thinking something.” Dylan brushed a loose strand of hair from her cheek.
“What is it?” Her fingers idly traced circles against his chest.
“Why don’t you come and stay at my father’s place?” she suggested.
“You won’t be alone when you get back from work.” Dylan’s heart clenched.
He wanted nothing more than to be with her.
Every night without her was a torment, his bed too cold, too empty.
But he couldn’t.
Not yet.
Not when Erica was still out there, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
He had deliberately distanced himself from Ava, using himself as bait.
He needed to lure Erica out, to end this once and for all.
Only then would Ava-and their unborn child-truly be safe.
Gently, he cupped her face, his thumb grazing the soft skin of her cheek.
“Just three more months,” he whispered.
“Once the baby is born, we’ll be together.” Ava sighed, but she didn’t argue.
Instead, she nestled closer, resting her head against his chest.
Dylan tightened his arms around her, pressing a lingering kiss to the top of her head.
“Sleep now,” he murmured.
Ava moved closer, her lips pressing a featherlight kiss against his throat.
Dylan’s Adam’s apple rose and fell as his entire body tensed beneath her touch.
A battle raged within him-one part of him ached to pull her beneath him, to claim her with reckless abandon, but the other part was cautious, terrified that his desire might overpower his control, that he might somehow hurt the life growing inside her.
But as he gazed at her, his restraint began to crumble.
Ava looked radiant, her skin glowing.
The tenderness in her eyes, her seductive smile, and her burning touch made his hesitation waver.
The hesitation still lingered, but the consuming need for her was far stronger.
Tonight, he wanted her badly.
She didn’t pull away.
Instead, she lifted her gaze to his, her eyes shimmering with warmth and longing.
“Dylan,” she whispered, her fingertips tracing down the sharp line of his jaw.
That single word shattered the last of his restraint.
With a heavy breath, he pressed a soft, lingering kiss to her forehead.
“Don’t make things hard for me, Ava,” he whispered.
“I can’t hold back.” Her lips curled into the faintest smile as she brushed a kiss against his chin.
“Who is asking you to hold back?” A shudder ran through him at her touch, at the sheer trust in her voice.
His hands trembled as they found their way to her waist, his thumb grazing the curve of her belly.
“I don’t want to hurt you.” “You won’t,” she assured him, her tone soothing yet filled with quiet urgency.
With a low groan, Dylan trailed soft kisses down her face-across her forehead, the slope of her nose, the curve of her cheek-before finally capturing her lips.
The kiss was slow, deep, unhurried.
He cradled her face in his hands, his thumb gliding gently over her cheekbone.
“You’re beautiful,” he whispered against her lips.
“You always are.
And now, I want you.
I want to worship you.” Ava’s fingers tangled in his hair.
“Love me, Dylan,” she whispered back.
“I need you.
I need us.” He kissed her again, his hands roaming over her.
There was no urgency in his touch, no desperation-only love and tenderness.
His palm skimmed down her body, finally resting against the swell of her belly.
He caressed her belly, awe flickering in his gaze as he felt the flutter beneath his palm-their baby was moving.
His hand paused right there, his breathing hitching.
His fingers splayed wider over her stomach, as if trying to confirm what he had just felt.
“The baby €“ did you feel that?” It was the first time he had felt their baby’s movement.
He was excited and surprised at the same time.
Ava’s eyes welled with unshed tears, her lips parting in a trembling smile.
She nodded, humming softly in confirmation.
“When did you feel it for the first time?” he asked.
Ava hesitated for a moment before answering, “The day you sent me away,” she choked out.
“A month ago?” His brows furrowed.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” “I was mad at you.” She pouted.
“I wanted to be with you all the time.
Why did you send me away?” His heart twisted at her words.
Cupping her face, he rested his forehead against hers, closing his eyes.
“I’m so sorry, Ava.
I didn’t want to.
I thought-if you were far from me, you’d be safe.
Just bear with it a little longer.
I promise you, I’ll make it right.
I’ll be with you every moment from now on.” He kissed her, resolving in his heart to push his plan to the next level.
