My Ex-Husband Begged Me to Take Him Back - Chapter 342
Chapter 342: The retaliation Chapter 342: The retaliation The figure stepped forward, her face emerging from the shadows.
Dylan’s breath caught in his throat.
His vision blurred for a second, not from dizziness but from the sheer force of recognition.
It was her.
The face he had seen in his past life.
The one he had forgotten.
The reason he could never see her in his nightmares before-because his mind had locked it away, erased the image of his true killer.
But now, looking at her, he remembered everything clearly.
“Erica€¦” he mumbled in a daze.
“It’s you!” Erica was the one who had poisoned him and killed him in the past, not Lydia.
A bitter taste settled on his tongue.
“Why?” he gritted his teeth, his eyes dark with rage and disbelief.
His chest clenched, the same dull ache flaring within him.
It wasn’t as agonizing as before, but the shock was unavoidable.
Erica’s lips twisted into a sneer.
“Why?
Because I hate you.
I always have.” Her eyes, once filled with artificial warmth, now burned with undisguised hatred.
“Your parents treated you and your sister like royalty while they looked down on me and my mother.
Do you have any idea what it felt like?
Your arrogant, self-righteous mother cursed and belittled my mom every chance she got.
I despised her.
I despised all of you.
I wanted your parents dead and you€¦” She stepped closer, her words cutting into him like a dagger.
“You were just a pathetic, depressed boy clinging to my mother like a lost puppy.
If she hadn’t taken care of you, you wouldn’t have survived.” Erica’s gaze darkened.
“And yet, despite all that, you got everything.
Everything.
The name.
The fortune.

The power.
What right did you have to inherit the Ace Group?
To stand above me?
You deserved to die, just like your parents.” Dylan was stunned to see the hatred in her eyes.
He had never imagined that the girl they had once taken in as family had harbored such venom toward them, despising them since childhood.
Dylan’s blood roared in his ears.
His body felt rigid.
“We treated you as family,” he hissed.
“We gave you everything-food, shelter, luxury.
And yet, you hated us?” He clasped his chest tight, his breath coming in ragged gasps.
“Without us, you and your mother would have been nothing.
My parents took you in, gave you a home, a life that most people could only dream of.
Wasn’t that enough?” Dylan pushed himself up despite the dull ache in his chest.
“If you felt so wronged, why didn’t you leave?
If my mother’s words hurt you so much, why didn’t you walk away?
Why didn’t you go back to your drunkard father?” He grimaced, his fury barely contained.
“I’ll tell you why.
Because you couldn’t.
Because no matter how much you claim to have hated us, you loved the luxury.
The comfort.
The security.
That’s why you stayed.” He took another step, his towering presence making her tense.
His dark gaze bore into hers, cold and unforgiving.
“You’re selfish and ungrateful, Erica.
And the worst part?
I was blind to it.
Now I understand why my mother despised you and your mother.
Why she never trusted you.
Why she had always treated you coldly€¦” Erica was taken aback when she saw him walking as if nothing had happened.
She took an involuntary step back.
No.
This wasn’t right.
He was supposed to be in agony.
Writhing.
Dying.
“You!
How could this happen?
You should be on the ground by now!” she choked out.
The realization struck her.
“You didn’t take the coffee!” She had mixed the lethal poison her mother had given her.
This poison was supposed to weaken him, to strike at his heart, to make his body give up.
Yet he was standing before her.
Alive.
Erica couldn’t believe her eyes.
She had painstakingly waited for this moment €“ to finish him, to avenge her mother.
But it seemed that her plan wasn’t working.
How could it be failed?
“Surprised!” Dylan sneered.
“Did you really think I wouldn’t see this coming?” He recalled the conversation he had earlier that day with the chief security officer, who had already informed him of the new maid in the house.
Flashback- “There is a suspicious person inside the house,” the chief security officer said gravely.
“Be careful.” Dylan’s grip on the phone tightened.
“Explain.” “This afternoon, Martha had to leave for her hometown due to a family emergency.
Just a few hours later, a woman showed up, claiming to be her relative.
She said Martha sent her to work in her place.” “Who is she?” “She introduced herself as Lisa.
She looks harmless, but something about her doesn’t sit right with me.” A pause.
“The bag she brought,” the officer continued.
“It was too big for someone who is only staying for a few days.
I found it odd.
But I didn’t check it because I thought she might lead us to Erica.
If she is connected to her, we might be able to get something useful.” Dylan hummed.
“One more thing, sir.” The officer’s voice turned serious.
“I tried contacting Martha to confirm her story, but she isn’t picking up.
This could be a setup.
You need to be cautious.
If anything seems off, press the emergency button.
We’ll be there immediately.” End of flashback.
“I’ve been waiting for you, Erica.
All these days, I was just waiting for you to make your move.
And now, here you are.” Erica’s breath hitched as Dylan’s words sank in.
A cold chill crawled up her spine, and her legs wobbled beneath her.
She had thought she held the upper hand tonight, that she would be the one delivering the final blow.
But now, the tables had turned-she was the prey, and he was the hunter.
“So, you knew.” Her face paled as the horrifying truth settled in-she had walked straight into his trap.
Her legs shook, and she stumbled back.
Dylan’s eyes darkened with fury.
“I knew the moment I saw that girl-Lisa-that she was up to something.
And when she brought me coffee, I knew exactly what was going on.
You really thought I would fall for such a pathetic trick?” His expression was murderous as he stepped in closer.
“I never touched the coffee.
I just discarded it in the trash bin.” He yanked her forward, his fingers digging into her skin, making her wince.
“You killed my parents,” he seethed.
“Did you really think I would ever forgive you?
That I would let you walk away unscathed?”
