Chapter 57: The confusion
Ava’s breath caught at the sight of his bloodied hand. “You are hurt!” She reached out to take his hand instinctively.
In a blink, Dylan grabbed her wrist, his eyes ablaze. “Don’t pretend to be caring. Such action doesn’t fit to a woman with a cold heart.”
Ava felt her heart twist in anguish, but the pain quickly turned into anger, rising like a fire in her chest. “You always believe what other people say. Why can’t you believe me for once?” Her voice trembled with emotions. “You didn’t even hesitate to accuse me of this. Do you really think I’m capable of something so cruel?”
His fingers tightened around her jaw. “Did you leave me any choice to trust you? Everything is against you.”
Ava was helpless. Tears blurred her vision, but she refused to back down. She knew it was all Gianna’s doing. She couldn’t help but be surprised at the level of her lies. She had gone this far to frame her, manipulating the situation and twisting the facts.
Ava resolved to prove her innocence and expose Gianna.
Through gritted teeth, she ground out, “Then turn me in. Let the police investigate every detail. I want the truth to come out. I dare you to hand me over if you’re so certain.”
Her voice cracked, but there was a raw strength in her words. She would not break under his accusations. She would expose Gianna’s treachery for all to see, no matter what.
The thought of the police interrogating Ava stirred a new wave of restlessness within Dylan. He would do anything to punish her for what she had done but wouldn’t hand her over to the police.
“Do you want to ruin my image?” he snapped, his grip on her jaw tightening painfully. “I just had the press conference and defended you, cleared your name. What will they say if I turn you over to the cops now? They’ll mock me—laugh at me.”
“You only care about yourself. What about me?” Bitterness filled her heart. “I’m your wife, Dylan. But you never once tried to understand me. You never trusted me.”
Her pain was undeniable, and for a heartbeat, it seemed to reach him, forcing him to waver his resolve. But he steeled himself, his expression cold and unrelenting. There was no place for weakness. Gianna had gone through that horrific event because of Ava. He couldn’t soften his heart for her.
“You won’t be my wife for much longer,” he hissed. “Not after this. You wanted a divorce.” He released her with a sharp nod, stepping back. “We’ll divorce. Meet me at the civil affairs bureau tomorrow. This ends here.”
Dylan finally decided to break all ties with her. He turned on his heels and stormed away.
Ava stood there, her body trembling, her back pressed against the wall. His accusation echoed in her mind, reverberating through her chest like a dull ache.
“If you had even the slightest bit of faith in me, you would have investigated it properly before accusing me,” she mumbled bitterly, realizing why he had suddenly canceled the collaboration with Williams Holdings all of a sudden. She swallowed hard, her eyes burning with unshed tears. “Will you regret this when you find out I’m innocent?”
Dylan’s jaw was tense as he weaved through traffic, Ava’s teary eyes lingering in his mind. There had been no trace of fear or guilt in her expression. All he had noticed was row pain. Desperation in her voice was evident as though she truly had nothing to hide, as if she was innocent.
What if she was telling the truth? Was it possible that this was all a conspiracy against her? Despite the mountain of evidence, doubt began creeping into his mind.
Dylan couldn’t ignore that Gianna had done many things against Ava – even tried to drug her and spread rumors about her. Could she have taken it further this time? Could she have orchestrated something so vile to frame Ava? The idea felt absurd.
The doctors had confirmed the horrific reality of her assault. How could all of that be staged?
Dylan’s thoughts churned in an endless loop, torn between the accusations against Ava and the nagging suspicion that there was more to the story. Ava’s desperate plea echoed in his ears, and he couldn’t ignore it any longer. He needed answers.
His gaze sharpened as he made a decision. He would dig deeper, uncover the truth—whatever it might be. Without delaying a second, he dialed Justin’s number. “Meet me at my place in half an hour,” he ordered.
Instead of heading to the office, Dylan turned his car toward home.

Ava wiped the last of her tears away, taking a deep breath to steady herself. “This is no time for crying,” she mumbled, strengthening herself. “I won’t let Gianna succeed in her conspiracy. I’ll expose her and show Dylan how wrong is.”
With renewed determination, she climbed into her car and sped off toward Nicholas’s office.
It wasn’t long before she arrived, her mind still buzzing with thoughts of justice. Nicholas, who had been waiting for her eagerly, grinned widely as she entered his office. But his smile faltered when he saw the redness around her eyes and the strain in her expression. His brow furrowed in concern, assuming the recent issues in the company had taken a toll on her.
Nicholas approached her with his usual charm, offering a reassuring smile. “Have a seat.” He pulled out a chair for her.
“Thank you.” Ava smiled weakly as she sat down.

“Coffee or juice?”
She shook her head politely. “Nothing, thank you. I’m here because I need your help.”
Nicholas nodded slowly, clearly sensing her distress. He returned to his seat. “I heard about the crisis at Williams Holdings. I’m ready to help in any way I can.”
Ava’s heart lifted, and a genuine smile broke through the tension she had been holding inside. Relief flooded her. “Thank you. I don’t even know how to express how much this means to me. I’m so grateful.”
Nicholas waved a hand dismissively. “There is no need for thanks. It’s nothing compared to what you’ve done for me. I’m happy to help you, truly.”
He reached into a drawer and pulled out a file, sliding it across the desk toward her. “I’ve already prepared the necessary documents. I’m ready to invest in Williams Holdings. Let’s not delay to sign the deal.”
