Chapter 68: The damning evidence (Part-2)
Ava sagged on the bed, blinking at the folder in a daze. The black letters seemed to float in the air. This was the truth she had been waiting for, and with this evidence, Gianna’s lies could be exposed.
But her mind reeled with unanswered questions: who had sent her this package?
Her heartbeat was faster as she turned on her laptop, plugging in the pen drive.
The screen flashed, revealing a gallery of photos—Gianna and Brian together in intimate settings. Ava’s pulse quickened as she clicked on the first video file, and a recording began to play.
It was a video of the doctor detailing how Gianna had bribed him to falsify a medical report, fabricating an assault story for sympathy.
Ava’s hands flew to her mouth, a surge of revulsion rising within her. “So she faked the report. How conniving you are!”
She felt sick, anger mixing with disbelief. Dylan had been too blind to see the menacing side of Gianna and had blamed her without a second thought.
Ava wished to slap him with the evidence and show him the true color of Gianna. “Humph!” she snorted. “There is no use. He won’t believe me even if I present all this to him. He will think I have fabricated the evidence.”
Her features twisted in agony and anger. “I won’t waste time in convincing him to believe me. I’ll expose you myself, Gianna. I’ll show everyone who you truly are.”
Ava’s eyes glinted as she watched the second video, in which Brian confessed not only his affair with Gianna but also revealed that they had been together at the hotel that fateful day.
Ava felt an immense wave of satisfaction. Everything she needed to clear her name and unmask Gianna was finally in her hands.
Ava had a feeling that Nicholas had sent her the parcel. She remembered him saying that he would stop Brian and Gianna anyhow. ‘Perhaps he had intercepted Brian at the dock and forced him to confess,’ she mused.
With this evidence, she didn’t need the video she had recorded earlier that day. But she appreciated his efforts in retrieving it.
“Nicholas, you made my day. I have no words to thank you.” She beamed, making a mental note to thank him for his support. First and foremost, she would expose Gianna in a grand way. “Gianna, you did everything to humiliate me in public. And now I’m going to give you a taste of your own medicine. Let me see how you will handle it.”
The thought of seeing Gianna’s shock, her loss of control, only fueled her resolve. Ava would make this public, ensuring Gianna felt every ounce of the shame she had tried to pin on her.

When Nicholas returned home, the butler informed him that someone was waiting for him.
“Who?” he asked, a mix of curiosity and suspicion filling his voice. The Bakers, as far as he knew, had never made an effort to visit, and he had no close friends who would drop by unannounced.
“He introduced himself as your friend,” the butler replied calmly. “He is waiting for you in the study.”
A friend?
Nicholas was curious to know who that friend was. His brows furrowed in confusion as he made his way to the study. Pushing the door open, his gaze landed on a familiar figure slouched in one of the chairs by his worktable.
“You!” A deep frown settled on Nicholas’s face as he registered who it was. He walked across the room with a rigid posture, annoyance radiating off him. “What are you doing here?”
Ethan looked up, pulling a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I thought I would meet my old friend,” he replied coolly, slipping his hands into his pockets as he stood. “These paintings…” He looked around oil paintings hanging on the walls. “They are just magnificent. I was just reminiscing about how you used to love painting.”
His eyes met Nicholas’s again. “These are your creations, aren’t they?”
Nicholas didn’t reply to him. Instead, he asked back a question. “What brings you here?” His tone was low, yet the undercurrent of fury was palpable.
Ethan’s face became stern the next moment, the playful demeanor vanishing. “I am here to talk to you.”
“You are not welcome here,” Nicholas shot back contemptuously, his fury threatening to boil over. “And I definitely don’t want to talk to you. Leave before I do something.”
“Look, Nicholas, I know exactly what you’re trying to do,” Ethan’s tone was sharp and unwavering. “Stay the hell away from Ava.”
“What if I don’t?” Nicholas retorted, taking a step closer, and challenging him.

“Don’t force me,” Ethan warned. “I won’t let you use her against me.”
Nicholas smirked as he assessed Ethan. “Looks like you care about her a lot. Then I’m even more interested in her.” His expression darkened. “You shouldn’t have left me alive back then. Now I am going to take everything away from you – your job, the Williams’ support, and of course, Ava.”
Ethan’s demeanor shifted to one of frenzy. “Look, I was young at the time,” he said, trying to convince him desperately, “and I made a mistake out of desperation. I wasn’t born into a good family; I didn’t even know who my parents were. You know how tough life is in the orphanage. I didn’t want that life. I dreamed of success, of abundance. Without that sponsorship, I wouldn’t have fulfilled that dream.”
“What about my dreams?” Nicholas countered, his voice rising in indignation. “I wanted success too. We could have gone to the same school together. But you are selfish. You wanted me dead!”
“I wasn’t that smart back then,” Ethan reasoned. “I was scared and jealous of your intelligence and…” He trailed off. “You had the Bakers backing you. They took care of your needs even if they didn’t fully accept you. You could go to any good school, but what about me? Thomas Williams’ sponsorship was a blessing I couldn’t pass up. I thought you would snatch that opportunity away from me.”
