Chapter 76: Ava was drugged
Lola sighed dejectedly as she thought of Ava’s troubled expression. “Poor, Ava. She came here to enjoy herself, and that jerk Dylan ruined everything.” Her mouth contorted in fury. “Let me teach him some lesson tonight. He can’t bully her always.”
She went to find Dylan and saw him picking up a glass of wine, but James snatched the glass from him, stopping him from drinking further. Lola’s anger only surged as she saw him. She stormed toward them.
“Why are you acting like a lovelorn teen?” she snapped, catching their attention. “Aren’t you tired of bullying Ava? She wanted one night to enjoy herself, but thanks to you – you ruined her mood.”
“Are you scolding me?” Dylan snapped back, squinting at her angrily. “She was the one flirting with another man.”
“So what if she was?” Lola shot back without missing a beat. “You’re practically divorced! Ava’s free to flirt, date, and sleep with whoever she wants. Why do you care?”
“You!” Dylan shot up to his feet, his hands reaching toward her as though he’d strangle her right there.
James acted quickly, grabbing Dylan’s arm and holding him back, his expression strained. He shot Lola a warning look. “Don’t add fuel to the fire. He is already distraught. Don’t make things worse.”
“I am making things worse!” Lola rebuffed, jabbing her thumb toward herself. “He is the one upsetting my friend and ruining her night.”
“James, tell this woman to get out of my sight,” Dylan grumbled. “Or else, I don’t know what I’ll do with her.”
“Who are you threatening?” Lola fired back, unfazed. “Touch me, and I’ll make a scene. I’ll tell everyone that you have been cheating on Ava.”
Dylan’s eyes flashed with a warning. “Shut up, Lola,” he growled, but she held her ground, steadfast and ready for a fight.
James quickly intervened, sensing the tension was close to exploding. “Leave him alone,” he commanded. “Didn’t you say Ava was upset? Go check on her instead.”
Lola shot a final glare at Dylan. “Fine. I’ll let you off now, but don’t think this is over.” She turned sharply and stormed away.
James turned his focus to Dylan. “Calm down now.” He put a steady hand on his shoulder, but Dylan shrugged him off roughly and stalked out of the hall without a word.
Inside the washroom…
Ava splashed cold water on her face, but the relief was fleeting. Her skin felt feverish, and her throat remained parched. She stared at her flushed reflection, her breathing rapid and uneven. A creeping dread settled in her chest.
“What is happening to me?” she mumbled, sensing something wasn’t right. She thought back to the glass of wine she had downed earlier, suspicion dawning. Had her drink been spiked? The thought sent a chill through her.
“I need to get out of here.”
Clutching her purse, Ava left the washroom and headed down the dimly lit hallway, only to stop short as Nicholas appeared before her.
Ava’s steps faltered. Her heart sank, and she instinctively lowered her gaze, desperate to avoid his concern. She just wanted to leave, her head buzzing with discomfort and urgency.
But Nicholas approached her. “Ava! I’ve been looking for you.” His face was etched with worry. “I thought… I thought Dylan might have hurt you.” His voice trailed off as he took in her flushed cheeks and unsteady stance, his expression shifting from worry to alarm. “What’s going on?” He reached out, placing his hands gently on her shoulders.
Ava flinched at his touch, stepping back to put some space between them, but he moved forward, lifting her chin with soft insistence to look at her more closely. “Are you okay?” he asked.
“I… I don’t feel good,” she murmured, brushing his hand away. “I need to go home.” She stepped back. Her legs felt like they were trembling beneath her, and she struggled to stay steady.
“Okay, I’ll take you home.” He offered her his hand.
“No…” Ava shook her head, retreating further. The last thing she wanted was to be alone with him in this state. “I… I’ll call a taxi.”
But Nicholas was undeterred. He stepped forward again, his hands coming to rest on her shoulders again. “Ava, please,” he insisted. “You don’t look well. I’m not letting you leave here alone.
Dylan, who had been coming to the washroom, caught sight of Nicholas leaning over Ava. This scene was enough to drive him crazy. He stormed over, fists clenched at his sides.
“Get off of her!” he shouted, shoving Nicholas aside before wrapping his arms protectively around Ava. “Don’t think you will have a chance to get close to her even if we are divorced. Ava is mine and will be mine forever.”
“I am only trying to help her,” Nicholas shot back. “Can’t you see she is not well?”

It was then that Dylan paused, really looking at Ava. Her face was flushed, and concern replaced his fury as he realized something was wrong.
‘Is she having a fever?’ His brow furrowed as he reached out, placing a hand on her forehead to check her temperature.
Ava leaned into his embrace and whispered, “Take me home.”
“We’ll leave right away,” he assured her. Without a second glance at Nicholas, he scooped Ava into his arms and carried her out of the club.
Gianna watched the unfolding scene with a mix of fury and frustration. “Ava, you are such a bitch!” she muttered under her breath, stomping her foot. Her this plan was also failed. “Why didn’t you choose Nicholas to fulfill your desires? Why are you still clinging to Dylan?”
Outside the club…
Dylan carefully settled Ava into the backseat beside him, signaling the driver to head home. Before he could utter a word of concern, Ava leaned in closer, her hand reaching up to caress his neck in a way that sent a jolt through him.
“You feel so good,” she murmured, pressing her lips against his Adam’s apple. By now, she was completely under the influence of the drug, unable to think anything straight.
Dylan stiffened, stunned by her sudden intimate action. His mind was still struggling to process the situation when Ava moved even closer, her hand moving down to his chest, her fingers deftly unbuttoning the first two buttons of his shirt. Her hand slid inside, grazing his chest.
“Ava! Have you lost your mind?” Dylan growled, instinctively grabbing her wrist to stop her. It didn’t take long for him to understand what was going on. She was drugged.
“You smell so yummy,” Ava continued, undeterred, as she pressed soft kisses along his neck and jawline.
“Stop it, Ava!” Dylan tried to pull away from her grasp, but she clung to him. Frustrated and uneasy, he squirmed, his gaze meeting with the driver in the rearview mirror. His blood boiled in fury.
“What are you looking at?” he roared. “Focus on driving.”
The driver flinched, quickly averting his gaze back to the road, trembling in fear.
Dylan muttered a curse under his breath, reaching for a button that raised the partition, effectively isolating them from the front of the car. Ava coiled her arms around his neck, her lips seeking his in a desperate attempt for closeness.
Furious, Dylan pressed her back against the seat, pinning her hands above her head. “You were about to leave with Nicholas in this condition,” he snarled, agitated. “Were you planning to do all this with him?”
In a sudden rush of emotion, he claimed her lips fiercely, unleashing the pent-up frustration that had been building inside him.
