Chapter 358: Before Departure: Part 4
“Did I do something wrong?”

He sat there, stunned. None of it made sense. He hadn’t meant to pressure her. He wasn’t trying to use his departure as some kind of too.

“I only told her the truth,”

(Brat, you really screwed up this time. I thought you were good with women since they fall for you so easily—but turns out, you don’t understand their hearts at all.)

“And you do?” He raised an eyebrow in annoyance.

(Better than someone clueless like you. Stop wasting time and go after her. Apologize—before it’s too late.)

“But what if she ends up hating me even more?”

(Doubt it. You already messed up pretty bad—only way now is up.)

Asher couldn’t help but agree with Pantheon.

He took off after her.

SWOOOSH!

With his speed, it didn’t take long before he was flying beside her.

“Can you at least give me a chance to explain myself?”

“Stop talking to me. I hate you.” she increased her speed, not wanting to talk at all.

“Please, just stop. Let me explain. I swear—I never meant to lie, and I wasn’t trying to manipulate you into liking me.”

“I don’t care. Just go save your wife. She’s clearly more important anyway.”She didn’t even know why the words came out so bitter—but just thinking about it made her angrier.

Asher sighed. Mirelyn was far more complicated to handle.

Right now, she was acting like a child throwing a tantrum—and he wasn’t sure how to calm her down.

Unlike the others, who always adjusted to him, the Fairy Queen made him do all the chasing.

She was the one playing hard to get—and she was damn good at it.

‘Should I back off?’ he thought, considering it might give him some leverage.

‘But I don’t have much time… I need to make her mine before I leave.’

He half-wondered if he was being overly dramatic—like one of those cheesy romance novels, where the guy always runs after the girl in the rain.

Except, in this case, it was more like flying through the air at full speed, hoping she’d hear him out.

“Mirelyn, seriously, can you just stop for a second? ”

Before Asher could say another word, a massive sea serpent erupted from the ocean surface, its jaws wide, aiming straight for the fairy Queen.

Its yellow slitted eyes locked onto her like she was the world’s most delicious snack.

SHUT!

The serpent’s mouth snapped shut around where she had been just a second before.

“Get out of my way!” she screamed.

And with a blinding explosion of energy, she flew right through its open jaws—completely obliterating its head in the process.

The serpent didn’t even have time to figure out how it died. Its massive body splashed back into the ocean.

Asher blinked in disbelief. “Why do I feel like that was meant for me?”

He chuckled dryly, shaking his head as he glanced at the still-sinking serpent, a mix of amusement and sympathy in his eyes.

“Did you calm down now, after venting all that anger?” Asher asked.

This time, she didn’t answer. She just slowed her pace, gliding through the air.

“Are you going to keep bothering me?” she finally asked, not even glancing at him. “I already rejected you, right? Why are you so persistent?”

He wasn’t used to this kind of cold treatment from the opposite sex, so he really did not know what to say.

“Because I like you,”

Mirelyn’s flew faster. She wasn’t going to let him sway her again.

But Asher had enough. With a burst of speed, he caught up to her and, without warning, wrapped his arms around her from the front.

“Let go of me!” she yelled, her voice shaking with frustration.

“Let go of me!” she repeated, thrashing against his hold, her wings flapping fiercely as she tried to break free.

But he didn’t budge. “I’m not going to let you go until you calm down.”

Her struggles slowed, but the heat of anger still burned in her chest. She tried to twist away from him, her breath coming in sharp, quick bursts.

“You think you can just hold me like this? You think it’s that easy to me to like you?”

“I know it’s not easy,” he said, his voice surprisingly gentle, his grip unwavering. “But I’m not letting go until you give me a chance.”

“Go chase other girls!” she shouted. “With your face and power, you can have thousands of them! Don’t bother me, I hate you!”

Asher watched her face, but all he could focus on was how she looked in that moment.

Her pout, her furrowed brow, the way her wings beat forcefully against the air — it was impossible not to find her even more stunning when she was angry.

Then it hit him—maybe being too serious was the problem. She didn’t need dramatic apology or heavy confession.

She glanced up, and the look she gave him was pure fire. “What are you staring at now?” she snapped, her cheeks flushed with frustration.

Asher couldn’t resist a small smile. “You,” he said, his voice light, almost teasing. “You look even better when you’re mad.”

Mirelyn’s face reddened further, her wings moving randomly.

“You’re…,” she muttered, trying to look away, but it was clear her frustration was mixing with something else — maybe even embarrassment.

“I’m serious,” Asher pressed, ” You’ve got this pout that makes you look… even cuter. I don’t know how you do it.”

“I’m not cute. I’m angry. Can you get that through your thick head?”

“I get it,” Asher said with a grin, “But it’s hard to take you seriously when you look like that.

She shot him a sideways glance, and for a moment, the fury in her eyes softened just a little. “You’re the most annoying person I’ve ever met.”

“And yet, here I am,” he teased, nudging her gently with his chest.

“You’re lucky I’m not kicking you out of the air right now.”

“Thank you for your consideration,” he added with a soft chuckle, then slowly let her go.

She didn’t run away this time, knowing full well that she couldn’t outrun him no matter what.

“…I’m still mad at you,” she said, not meeting his eyes.

“I know.”

“And I’m not saying I forgive you either.”

“I know… but can you hear out my story first? Maybe if you get the full picture, you’ll understand why saving Index is my priority.”

Mirelyn didn’t answer right away.

“…Fine,” she muttered. “I’ll listen. But only because I’m curious. Not because I care or anything about you.”

Asher smiled faintly. “Thanks for giving me a chance.”

He looked ahead, watching the horizon stretch endlessly over the ocean, then glanced back at her.

“It’s not just about love,” he started. “Index is more than a partner to me. She’s the reason I’m even standing here right now. ”

“She gave up everything when I had nothing to offer. And I made her a promise—I’d bring her back, no matter what it takes.”

The more he spoke about his experiences in the void, the more Mirelyn understood that he hadn’t always been as powerful as she assumed.

Everything he had achieved was through his own hard work. No one had handed it to him easily.

And after hearing how Index had saved him, and how she had been trapped in that place for countless years alone, it only deepened her understanding of why he was so determined.

Her expression softened, and she felt guilty for how she acted.

She barely knew Asher. They hadn’t even started anything real, nothing more than a few encounters and moments of conversation.

But here she was, getting angry as if she owed his loyalty.

‘I’m being too selfish,’ she muttered under her breath. ‘He’s been nothing but helpful to me and my people, and I… I’m acting like this.’

She had overreacted because she didn’t know how to handle what she was feeling.

This was the first time someone had made her heart race, the first time she truly cared whether someone stayed or left.

It wasn’t as deep as what Lucy or Hailey might’ve felt, but for someone like her—who had no real experience with love—it felt heavy, confusing, and strong.

That’s why it made her act out.

She crossed her arms and looked away, her cheeks slightly red.

“I’m sorry too… I was just being emotional. I didn’t know what to do with all of this.”

Mirelyn sighed. “I wasn’t trying to be difficult… I just—this is all new to me.”

“I know, and I’m also at fault for putting all this pressure on you,” he responded, keeping his voice calm and admitting his own mistake.

When both of them said their piece, Asher turned around.

“I’ll take you home now. You don’t have to worry about me asking you again. I won’t force an answer anymore.”

She looked conflicted as she watched his strong and wide back.

Part of her wanted to stay, to find a way to sort through the feelings that had been building inside her.

But another part of her just wanted to retreat, to protect herself from future heart aches.

She was not like Lucy, who could swallow her own pride—and even her ego—just to stay close to Asher.

No, the Fairy Queen was too emotional, too unstable for that

If she really accepted his feelings, she knew she would become more impulsive, more jealous, and would want him all for herself.

‘What should I do…’ she muttered to herself, her anxiety rising.
