Chapter 356- Exo-Burst (Part 13)
As time passed for Arthur and as he watched Exo-Burst in action, the boy was more and more terrified of this skill. It was simply akin to a cheat code when it came to fast battles. Being able to move that fast, hit even faster, and be able to blend with the surroundings, making it almost impossible for the enemy to sense you… It was like fighting a ghost, through and through.
In fact, Arthur could confidently say that fighting that Red Pearl man was a lot easier, even though he could teleport. Not only was it because Exo-Burst was ridiculously faster, but it was also because teleportation didn’t make the man camouflage himself, so Arthur could at least deal with it.
However, this…
*BANG*
“AAGHHH!”
Like a raging train, the blob of flesh slammed Arthur at full force, crushing his body and sending him flying into the wooden remains of the ships. He broke through several layers of wood before landing on his back.
The battle had been going for several minutes, and Arthur had been the target of the full wrath of the hideous monster. It attacked him from every possible angle with speed enough to make Arthur’s head spin and his teeth to gnash from frustration. He didn’t know where the thing was coming from and where he was supposed to even be positioned at every given moment.
Spinning back, he stood up and channeled his mana into his sword. ‘Screw this!!’ He cursed. Then, he swung his sword several times, creating multiple layers of ice all around him. He didn’t even know what he was doing at that moment, but that was the only idea he could come up with.
‘I need a breather, this thing is like a mosquito you can’t kill, and it hits like a goddamn train!’ He cursed.
*BANG*
A second later, Arthur felt the entire area shake as something smashed into one of the ice layers, shattering it instantly. Then, that thing disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. A few seconds later, the second layer shattered.
“Fuck!!” Arthur frowned deeply before quickly trying to rebuild the layers of ice. However, every single one he creates ends up bursting as quickly as it appears. Each swing took a considerable amount of mana so the boy found himself wasting a ridiculous amount in record time.
‘I’m just wasting mana! AGH!!!’ Covering his face from the shards of ice, Arthur’s mind raced to find a solution to this disastrous situation he was in. He was unable to do anything. He didn’t even want to dare and face this monster head-on.
It was faster, and it was as strong, if not a little weaker, than him. A battle was basically suicide; Arthur had to find another way.
He was being pressured, the monster was getting closer, and the fear was creeping into his heart. He was nervous and afraid, and his mind was completely in panic mode, trying to come up with any plan. Everything was seemingly crashing down at Arthur from every angle, and his mental fortitude was about to break.
At that very moment, amidst the catastrophe, the boy suddenly… felt calm. It happened in a split second, almost out of nowhere. All his thoughts vanished, and his mind cleared up. His uneven breathing calmed down a bit, and the world around him became an echo of its original nature.
As the monster continued banging on the wall, the boy took a deep breath and closed his eyes. ‘Understanding my body and my environment…’
Against all the odds, the boy’s mind didn’t feel rushed or panicked anymore. It was as if something had clicked in his head, and now he was as calm as a lake.
‘When I tried to replicate the environmental mana earlier, it proved to be impossible because it is too chaotic… too unstable. There is no way one can replicate that… It’s pointless. I might as well not even tr-‘
“Wait…”
Suddenly, Arthur’s eyes opened wide as he felt as if an electric shock had run through his mind. It was a moment of epiphany, an idea that came out of a completely harmless sentence. However, the effect it had on Arthur’s thoughts was huge.
‘Wait, wait, wait…’ He grabbed his chin. ‘What was I even thinking? Replicate? That was pointless from the start! It is indeed true that I should’ve not even tried!’ His eyes flashed with a weird glint.
Meanwhile, the last few layers of ice he had built were quickly getting smashed by the relentless attacks of the monster. It was akin to an alarm that the monster was getting closer and closer to him, and he had no time to actually think or plan.
But that didn’t seem to bother him, and he simply let that idea marinate and formulate in his head. Eventually, a wide grin appeared on his face.
‘If this works out, someone needs to give me a reward for being a goddamn genius!’
*BANG*
At the same time, the last layer of defense burst, and Arthur emerged into the world. He was ready for that moment and he used all his mana to dash out, trying to gain a few precious seconds of time to implement what he just thought of.
‘I don’t have any other choices… This either works or I’m simply dead.’ He thought to himself. ‘Either succeed or die… I like my chances.’
Dashing through the broken ships, Arthur was aware that the monster was very close and it was about to attack again. However, this time, Arthur changed his approach, making the monster suddenly decide not to attack.

Out of nowhere, the boy’s mana pattern shifted. The monster was aware enough to notice that, and it was alerted to the change, thinking Arthur was about to attack again. But, that never happened.
Instead, and in a moment of complete shock, the boy’s silhouette… blurred. The monster noticed it, and it was confused for a second. It happened for a split moment before the boy returned to normal, continuing to run as if nothing happened.
So, the monster quickly regained its composure and vanished. Closing the distance in a flash, it opened its disfigured arms, ready to catch Arthur again. However, at that moment, the boy blurred again, and the monster… missed.
Its arms tried to catch what it thought to be Arthur, only for the boy to appear in a different spot. The monster was completely alarmed, vanishing as quickly as it had appeared.
Meanwhile, Arthur’s grin widened to the extreme as a sinister look appeared on his face.
“I understand now.” He muttered as he licked his lips. “I figured it out.”
The sheer feeling of excitement he had at that moment was ridiculous. He felt like he had just solved the hardest puzzle of his life. A puzzle that didn’t take him long to solve, but it used almost every single ounce of mental strength he had in store.
‘I have been trying to replicate raw, primal mana when that was never the goal… To understand isn’t to copy… But to adapt.’ He mused. ‘It’s chaos, and adapting with chaos doesn’t come with order… It comes with chaos itself.’
“I need to be chaos.”
