Chapter 380- God’s Gate (Part 18)
The screech stopped the entire process as they all turned around to the source of the noise. It was coming from a good distance away, but it was close enough for them to recognize where it came from.
“Human Chimeras…” Arthur muttered as his expression darkened visibly. “Not now, for God’s sake. Everyone, continue moving! We don’t have any time to waste! All the combatants, form a defensive shield around the pillar, we must protect it at all costs!”
As he said those words, what was one shriek turned into several ones coming from several different directions. Quickly, the combatants of the group formed a line around the pillar, pulling their weapons out to get ready for the battle.
They didn’t know how many Human Chimeras were approaching them, but they quickly realized that the number wasn’t small by any means. In fact, as they stood there, the screeches kept increasing in numbers, reaching a ridiculous rate.
Arthur moved to the front of the defensive line and looked left and right. His senses were starting to pick up on the number of monsters, only for his expression to darken even further.
‘There are so many…’ He clenched his fist. ‘Of all the times they could possibly gather to attack, it’s now?’
The sheer bad luck he faced was overwhelming, and it almost made him curse loudly. But he kept his calm and unsheathed his sword.
“We must hold them off until everyone has climbed up! Germa, keep an eye on the process!”
“Understood!”
With that, Arthur took the first step and disappeared into the distance. He ordered the group to stand their ground and not move away from the chain while the others continued climbing.
His plan was to simply stall as much as possible and kill as many enemies as he could until everyone reached safety.
Using Exo-Burst, Arthur cut the distance short, and through the darkness, several silhouettes appeared in his vision. They all instantly attacked him without any warning. Their speed was monstrous, and so was their strength.
“Not today,” Arthur muttered as he disappeared again. By the time he appeared, two monsters were already hacked into pieces and the other two missed their target completely. Arthur immediately used the blood arrows to attack them.
However, the two monsters were quick on their feet as they dodged it quickly. However, the moment they manifested again, they found Arthur’s blade going straight for their necks.
“Fell for the oldest trick in the book,” Arthur muttered with a grin.
*Swish*
The sword swiftly severed the monsters in half without any resistance. With a splashing sound, the monsters’ hacked corpses fell to the ground in front of Arthur. The moment the boy landed on his feet, his senses went off again as even more monsters emerged from the darkness and attacked him.
At that moment, the boy realized that… The battle wasn’t going to be easy.
*BANG*
Without wasting time, he activated Exo-Burst and rushed out of that spot before all the monsters could get him. Their speed made dangerously close, but with Arthur’s continuously evolving ability, he was able to dodge the arms and mouths coming his way as he appeared a good distance away.
The monsters slammed into one another where he was, and they fell like flies.
“Hahaha! That’s cool!”
“…”
Standing up, the monsters glared at him as even more of them emerged from the darkness. Their terrifying appearances made them appear like true demonic creatures.
“…” The boy clenched his teeth as he formed his blood claw and the frost flames.
“Come at me all at once, guys. Let’s not waste any time here.”

Meanwhile, back at the chain, the rest of the monsters made their attack without any hesitation. Their rabid bloodlust and hostile aura filled the air, making it even heavier than ever before.
“Don’t hesitate, and don’t let them break through! There are still a good number of people who need to climb! We must protect them!” Germa yelled. “Let’s kill these bastards once and for all!!”

The people cheered loudly as they brandished themselves for the impact.
*BANG*
With a loud explosion, the two sides clashed violently. With their shields made out of available material and their battle experience, the people faced the largest army of Human Chimeras they had ever faced.
Like a swarm of flies, the monsters kept appearing out of nowhere as if something was spawning them left and right. That put immense pressure on the defensive lines, and it grew very quickly into a problem.
Fighting monsters that can move that fast while protecting the chain was quite a hard task. A single mistake would make one break in, and that would be a huge disaster.
Germa tried to not get involved too much and decided to be the last layer of defense in case of a disaster.
*BOOOOOOM*
Occasionally, the group would hear loud explosions coming from a distance where Arthur was fighting, and it only gave them more desire to fight. They knew their leader was out there fighting all these enemies on his own.
He was trying to lessen the pressure on the group by dragging as many monsters away as possible. Since he was quite strong and eye-catching, the monsters were easily aggroed to his location.
However, that also brought a huge problem for Arthur as he had to somehow fight many of these creatures all at once. His maximum was 6 or 7 at once, and it wasn’t that sustainable either. Now, he was facing almost double that number in one instance.
“UGH!!!”
A strong arm slammed into Arthru’s side, sending him flying a few meters. As he landed on the ground, he quickly rolled and stood on his feet, only to have to move again to dodge the sharp fangs of another monster trying to use that opportunity.
But, that didn’t even give him a moment to breathe as several other monsters attacked him during that moment. His sword was swinging fast, creating ice everywhere it went. His claws slashed and hacked everything in his path like a relentless killing machine.
But… The limit was still there. Arthur… was losing.
