Chapter 266: Dead Deathmist, Fragmented Soul
It reformed again—this time into a massive, gaping maw filled with jagged black teeth. The mist inside twisted into a spinning vortex, and I instantly felt it—a pull on my body, dragging me forward toward that swirling darkness.

The maw lunged at me.

My Essence was still regenerating, not enough yet to burn through all that Deathmist. But I didn’t need Essence to solve everything. My body was strong enough—and I had another idea.

I whispered, “Space Lock.”

The skill I’d developed by fusing my control over space and light triggered instantly. A transparent cube shimmered into existence around the Phantom’s massive mouth, sealing it inside a confined block of distorted space.

I flew straight toward the sealed cube and hovered just inches from its surface. I placed my palm gently on it.

This was the key part.

I activated the Equivalent Clause inside my Absolute Domain. I offered up the ability to anchor objects in space. In return, I aimed to move this sealed cube a short distance—to teleport it right beside the [Singularity Beam] that was still devouring the Deathmist wall.

The moment I made the exchange, glowing runes flared to life all across the domain. They raced around me like clockwork, clicking and shifting in perfect harmony as they processed the command.

Then—whoosh—the cube vanished.

It reappeared instantly, now floating just a few feet from the glowing violet singularity still eating through the wall like a silent, relentless storm.

The effect was immediate. Because of the sacrifice the maw simply lost its ability to remain anchored in place.

The singularity snapped onto the Deathmist that made up the Phantom’s soul.

The mist hissed and thrashed inside the cube, the maw screeching with unnatural fury as it tried to escape. But it was too late. The singularity had already claimed it.

The pull strengthened, dragging the Phantom’s entire mist-form toward the violet point of collapse. It fought, but its movements were sluggish now. Disoriented. Caught in a grip it couldn’t understand, much less resist.

I hovered above, watching it unravel with narrowed eyes.

Once I confirmed the mist was truly caught in the pull of the singularity, I finally deactivated my domain.

The glowing runes dimmed and faded, and I floated back beside Silver. Together, we watched as the Deathmist slowly got dragged into the violet collapse point, bit by bit. It kept screeching, trying to pull away, but the force was too strong.

It was only a matter of time now.

And once I felt the mist had taken enough damage—weak enough, shaken enough—I moved on to the real reason I had come here.

I reached inward.

Deep within the generator core, the Null Heart trembled. A low hum echoed through my body as the Soul Shackle responded to my call. A thick, glowing blue chain emerged from the core, crackling faintly as it uncoiled through the air.

Without hesitation, it shot forward.

The chain pierced through the streams of Deathmist being pulled into the singularity and latched onto something buried within it—something solid.

A heartbeat later, it pulled back.

Out from the mist came a glowing red orb. Inside it, black smoke churned and twisted violently, trying to escape.

I stared at it.

That was its soul—twisted, corrupted, and now bound.

The chain tugged it back into the core without resistance. Once inside, the glowing red orb began to slowly orbit the Null Heart, spinning in a tight, steady loop.

Almost immediately, I noticed the change outside. The Deathmist that had been resisting the singularity suddenly lost its shape and collapsed. Without a soul to anchor it, the mist crumbled into loose vapor and was instantly devoured by the singularity.

But something felt off.

No notification appeared. No vision triggered like it had when I claimed Silver. Curious, I tried summoning the creature, but nothing responded. The soul didn’t stir.

My eyes narrowed as I floated there in silence, thinking it through. And the more I thought about it, the clearer it became.

The soul was incomplete.

“Do I need to collect all the different fragments of its soul for it to work?” I muttered aloud. That was the only explanation that made sense. Without the whole, the chain couldn’t bind the Phantom like it did with Silver.

I let out a slow breath and turned to the singularity.

It was still going, still pulling in the last traces of Deathmist from the area. But now it was moving faster—almost like it had tasted something and wanted more. The wall was already gone, completely devoured.

But it didn’t stop there.

Cracked, corrupted trees nearby began to tremble. Branches snapped, bark cracked, and slowly, piece by piece, they were dragged into the swirling vortex. Dust, leaves, even chunks of earth were spinning around it.

I rubbed my chin, watching the chaos. “Okay… how do I stop it now?”

It was my weapon skill, but I didn’t feel any link to it anymore. That connection had vanished the moment the skill activated. Still, the Essence powering it—that was mine. And there was a reason it burned violet instead of green.

So I reached out.

I focused on the energy, tugged at it with my will. At first, there was resistance, like trying to pull something out of thick mud. But I pushed harder. And then, suddenly, it snapped free.

The hole unraveled.

“Shit—!”

I instantly summoned [Spatial Shield].

BOOM!

A massive shockwave burst outward as the singularity collapsed in on itself and exploded. Trees bent and shattered from the force. Debris flew everywhere. My shield cracked under the pressure, but it held long enough.

We were safe.

“Oops…” I chuckled, a little too loudly.

I flapped my wings and dropped back down, landing on Silver’s back. “Let’s go see if we can help Azalea.”

Silver took off without a sound, gliding over the shattered landscape. He dove low, then gently touched down beside the enormous serpent.

Her massive blue-scaled body was still curled up in that clearing, but the corruption was clear—spreading, ugly, and black. I had one idea: the same thing I’d done with Steve’s arm. Push my Essence into her body and force the corruption out.

I leapt off Silver and landed beside her.

But before I could even lift a hand, her huge body suddenly shivered.

Her massive form twitched again, but she didn’t wake up. Her eyes remained shut, her breath shallow and uneven. I stepped closer, reaching out to place my hand on one of the uncorrupted blue scales—smooth, warm, and still alive beneath the surface.

But before I could channel my Essence into her, I felt something stir in the clearing.

The trees.

The hundred or so green trees that had somehow resisted the corruption all this time… they began to move. Their leaves rustled, even though there was no wind. Soft pulses of green light glowed from their roots, traveling upward through the bark and into the canopy.

Life Force..

I felt it clearly now—pure life force radiating outward from the trees. It wasn’t aggressive or forced. It flowed gently, like a quiet stream, drifting toward Azalea’s body.

Tiny motes of green light began to gather around her.

They hovered over the corrupted areas of her scales, then slowly began to sink in. The black patches twitched, bubbled… then cracked. Bit by bit, the corruption peeled away, falling off like ash. Her blue scales shimmered faintly underneath, restored.

It wasn’t fast, but it was working.

The trees were healing her.

I pulled my hand back, watching in silence.
