Chapter 1340: Mountain Training
The entire group exited the stylish minibus and trekked towards the foot of the mountain. They quickly realized there was no need to scale its peak. Where they were was practically in the middle of nowhere; there were no cities, no towns, and no signs of life nearby. At this time of night, it was highly unlikely that a single car would pass their current location, but they still wanted to get some distance from the roads and avoid destroying them. So, the group trekked through the fields until they reached an area far enough from any roads, nestled between two vast mountains, with plenty of open land as far as the eye could see.

“So, are we just going to do this thing, and you guys watch, or what?” Gary asked, looking around at the expectant faces.

Kai looked at the others. “Well, we’ll move back and away, at least a mile out from where you are. We’ll observe from afar, maybe halfway up that mountaintop. If there’s any trouble, Xin, you give us a signal, and we’ll do what we can to handle him.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll whip Gary right into shape,” Xin said, giving a confident thumbs-up.

Hearing this, the rest of the group traveled halfway up the mountainside and then watched from a distance. Most of them were Altered or Werewolves, so they could see quite clearly. Those like Tom had brought their own pair of binoculars, and Innu and Blake had their special masks they could use to see as well.

Gary turned his head from the ground to look at the rest of the group just staring. “Man, this feels really weird, all of them watching like that,” Gary commented, a touch of awkwardness in his voice.

“How come it’s a big deal now, right? You used to fight in the AFC, we both did. Just think of them as a crowd,” Xin explained, trying to ease his discomfort.

However, when it was a crowd of strangers, it was somehow easier for Gary, compared to a group of individuals he knew intimately and whose every reaction he could discern.

“So what do we do? You never really told me. I haven’t even transformed for the first time yet, is it just a feeling?” Xin asked, ready to begin.

“Transforming should be easy, I guess we should start with that. You should learn how to use your Werewolf form,” Gary explained. “My guess is it’s like the same way as you would when being an Altered. Focus on your arm and try just changing that part.”

Brown fur instantly grew out from Gary’s body, and when he looked at Xin, even though she had grey hair, brown fur also grew out from her body. It made Gary wonder; he hadn’t unlocked all the mysteries or answers of the Werewolf. Why was it that some Werewolves even had different fur? Black appeared to be the most common, but here he and Xin were brown. When he transformed into his other forms, his fur had changed anyway.

Xin then continued to produce controlled transformations all over her body. Gary was right; it was exactly the same as when she transformed into an Altered, so there was no learning curve on that part.

“Alright, next, let’s fully transform and go from there,” Gary said as he performed a full transformation. Xin wasn’t too far behind him, transforming the rest of her body into her wolf form.

“To get used to it, try to catch me!” Gary challenged, immediately taking off in a sprint.

The two of them ran across the field, chasing each other, moving at incredible speeds. Olivia, who was watching, could tell straight away: Xin had truly skipped many steps of growth as a Werewolf and had practically evolved to a form that could match Gary’s in strength and speed.

Right after, Gary took a few claw swipes at Xin, wanting her to use her abilities as a Titan Vanguard and get used to her new form. There was a little back and forth, then direct fighting with each other. The way they sparred, it was almost like they were fighting in the AFA again.

“Man, can those two get a room,” Tom muttered, shaking his head. “The last thing I wanted crossed off my bucket list was two furries going at it.”

“I feel like you could have phrased that a little better,” Innu commented with a small chuckle.

Finally, as their sparing session concluded, Gary broke out of his transformation, and Xin did the same, as the two walked back to the center of the clearing.

“That was a good sparring session. It’s been a long time since the two of us fought, but I could tell that you were holding back,” Xin said, a playful glint in her eyes. “Ah, the days where I could easily beat you have gone past.”

“Right,” Gary laughed, remembering seeing Xin at the karate club a very long time ago.

“Come on then, let’s get to it. Why don’t we do what we came here to do?” Xin prompted. “How do we go into our Alpha and Luna spirit forms, whatever that was?”

Gary’s face immediately turned bright red. “Well… I think… when I saw Ylva and Lupus do it, they were, well, kissing each other.”

“That’s it? That’s why you’re going red? Haven’t we kissed so many times before already?” Xin asked, genuinely confused.

Gary turned his head to the side. They had, of course, but not with an audience of his closest friends watching his every move. When he turned back around, however, Xin had already placed her hands around the back of his neck.

“You need to get used to this,” Xin claimed, pulling Gary forward and pressing her lips right against his. And just as their lips met, the system messages flared.
